This thread (which may be a duplicate) is for folks to propose a concept/gear/area and theorise about how it fits in to the larger Sixth World.

My lead-in:  suppose someone comes up with a particularly effective Banish ritual - which could help vs shedim and Insect Flesh Forms - and releases the ritual formula, requirements and other details as open source?

Something I'd like to see: Bladed weapons that do Stun. Even if they are just wooden (or another such material) practice swords like the bokken. There really isn't anything out there for the blade specialist who needs to knock out an opponent instead of shanking him in the kidney.

Take the stats for a "club". Rename it a "bokken". Allow it to be used with any sword-based martial arts stuff. Done.

What if RL makes all this cool stuff and its not even 2050 yet  ;D

But seriously, I'd like to see a technological way to make metaplanar journeys, maybe solely in the possession of 2 factions like Ares and Aztechnology. You could have a whole story arc on either destroying it or going through as exploration teams a la Stargate

That could be interesting. I had a similar thought, but more in the way of travel in the physical world using a spell existing in a book series I read. Basically developing a spell that uses the connections between the mana in different locales (considering both places are part of the same mana sphere since they're on the same world) to enable creating a magical gateway between the two points. It may require higher mana levels than is present currently in SR, but if not it could be possible--if being very high drain (like half Force +6) and distance determined by the Force.

And what's your view of my 'similar idea' Mirikon?

That idea doesn't involve jaunting into the metaplanes. It does, however, open the possibility for Aztechnology to open a portal directly to your safehouse when they use ritual magic to track you down, and to send in some jaguar guards while you're sleeping. You wake up as the next sacrifice. Yeah, not good.

As of right now, there's no magical or technological way to teleport, even for dragons and immortal elves.

It's not exactly teleportation persay, since you'd actually have to walk through a gateway. I just got to thinking about how the spell worked in the book series I read and thought such a thing might be possible in SR. As to the problem you stated, well, there is the fact that--though I forgot to mention it previously--that one has to have been to the target location to open the 'portal'.

Whether it is portals, teleporting, tesseracting, or whatever, even the Elves and Dragons haven't been able to do such things. The closest you have to someone creating a portal is Dunkelzhan blowing himself up and creating the Watergate Rift.

What if someone made all the Sapient Critters playable?

Which sapient critters aren't playable? Runner's Companion gives stats for the Infected, Nagas, Pixies, Centaurs, Sasquatches, AIs, Shapeshifters, Free Spirits, Drakes... Pretty much anything you could think of except Merrow (which don't seem to want to deal with people much), Free Sprites (which, while nice, would be fairly limited in a game unless there was another way for them to grow than by absorbing a bound sprite of a technomancer), and Dragons (pure game balance here).

I contributed to an idea for space travel using astral gateways in a game earlier this year.  First, you need a large vessel because you need to be able to host its own manasphere.  The astral gateway was then activated to transfer you to another system.  Since the gateways only link manaspheres, it cherry picked systems that were habitable, and got you pretty close to the far manasphere.  Other planets in the system still required conventional space travel until they could generate a sufficiently strong manasphere to host a gateway.

Note that using Astral gateways means that you have to go through an astral quest with all that entails so this is not an easy thing to do.

The Watergate Rift is part of what made me start thinking it might be possible if done right, and using the interconnectivity of mana seemed to be the right way to me.

If done right??? Making the Watergate rift took someone with the arcane knowledge of a great dragon, a nuke, and Ghost knows what else! And then it sucked people in all around it. When Ghostwalker came through, all those spirits that came rushing out after him? Shedim, chummer. And it took four powerful artifacts and a great dragon's arcane knowledge to shut the thing down, and if Aina hadn't sacrificed herself it would have likely blown up DeeCee.
