It's -2 if you turn the wireless on though! So you're half right!

Core p431
Quote
Concealable holster: This small holster can be worn
on the ankle, clipped to the forearm, in the small of the
back, or anywhere else it’s unlikely to be seen. The concealable
holster adds –1 to the item’s Concealability (p.
419). Only pistols and tasers fit in a Concealable Holster.
Wireless: Wireless sensors and a smart-fabric coated
weave allow the holster to alter color and texture in real
time adding an additional –1 to the item’s Concealability.
Ahh, fair enough...but now you have to worry about people finding your holster in the matrix. Since that's a matrix perception test, I assume any commlink can do it, right? If not, then at least you only have to worry about people rich enough to pack decks, but otherwise, it seems like it would be easier to spot your gun with a computer than with eyes. Never got my head around the matrix enough to know if this is true, so I'm just talking out of my ass.

I think you'd run it silent, on the public grid, and possibly slaved to your decker's deck. Any matrix perception test against you would then suffer -2 dice (2 for either being on public grid or a different grid). Without it slaved to a deck you'd get your Logic to defend, slaved to a deck you'd get your Logic and the deck's Sleaze. In addition they'd have to go through all the silent icons unless looking for something specific (eg show me all concealed holsters running silent). It is a call, though. Going through security with an alert decker you may want it off and risk the pat down, going through with no decker you might want it on.

That's actually one of the main reasons to have the wrapper program active: That's no concealed holster, that's my emergency furry porn collection... ;)
If they catch you regardless at least you can say: "You actually wanted to take a look at that?!"

True, though again it's decker/rigger only.

If you're up against a decker, of course they'd want to take a look at that ;)

Lets take the average non-samurai runner. Deckers, mages, some riggers, etc. Characters who probably never invested in AGI and have it at 3. If they default on a roll to conceal a Steyr TMP, They've got two dice. The average human being at this point has a 50/50 at spotting that thing at a casual glance! Not a fair comparison though, all things considering.
Didn't notice the first time around, but Palming is a skill you can't default on. So unless you have it, you're not doing active concealment, and you're down to observers Perception + Intuition - Concealability +/- Modifiers [Mental] to see it.

The only only only only people who consider one skill superior to another in this are those who are mechanically minded only. Munchkins.   I'll take the skills that fit my character from a roleplaying standpoint every time.
