But they will complain. Especially when you wipe them out with multiple grenade attacks, layered napalm/icestorm spells etc.
If Tom Brady’s a Spike Baby, what does that make Brees and Rodgers?

4 Shadowrunners, two of which are high karma (300s) Mages that perform said cheese (I allowed). They unknowing have some notoriety for being quick spell slingers that layer their magic, and having two heavy hitters for support.

Antagonist call up specialized counter operatives, 2 Spec Ops Mages and two heavily chromed heavy hitters, all with similar skill sets as the PCs.

Johnson sets PCs up for an ambush and the PCs lose initiative, despite excellent rolls (OpFor Mages spend Edge to go first). First they are subjected to a F14 Chaotic World with varying success, then are bonded to the ground by a F12 Glue Strip (success). The second mage drops a F12 Stench Spell, incapacitating one mage and heavily penalizing the others (success). The PCs all get their first pass and try to get out of the glue, with only the two heavy hitters succeeding, but they are hampered by the field of glue.  OpFor Sams engage with automatic shotguns firing rubber bullets, clearly with the intent of knocking them down into the glue (partial success).

At the end of the day, every PC had to permanently burn Edge with the mages burning 2 and 3 respectively to escape. At the end of the session, we had a discussion and came to the compromise that any spell that effects an opponent, whether it be directly or indirectly (such as effecting the environment they interact with), may be considered an attack. Though some spells are subject to rule when they pop up.

You can hardly call it cheese if you allowed it, dude.
Playability > verisimilitude.
