Hello!

The goal here is setting up a PbP game mainly directed to old hat roleplayers that are, however, new to Shadowrun. We also want to focus primarily on roleplay and character interpretation, rather than rolling dice.
My idea is to create a semi-stable group of runners and take turn at GMing adventures. I'll go first, using the free Mission 2-01, Parliament of Thieves, revamped for 5th edition.

Character creation rules should be standard 5th edition.

Right now, I think something like 6 players should be a good number.

Setting is Denver, 2072. All our runners must be new to the scene of the Denver Shadows and possibly new to the city as well.

Update

Interested Players List

souffle_girl:  Angel; elf face/decker
Landmine: elf street samurai/stealth specialist, commando type
Raven Runner: adept secret agent
8-bit: Detection or Illusionist Mage
RagallachMC: Technomancer
Imveros: Sioux mage
saithor: probably rigger
Poindexter: troll doctor, troll wheelman, or elf aspected caster
Shrazkil: Mystic adept Negotiator

I think we can start coming up with character fluff and sheets. If you use Chummers, please send me the .chum5 file of your character, so that I can keep track of the character stats and progression.

One last word: I'm all for roleplay over rollplay and character progression, but since this is a pregenerated introductory adventure and none of us know the rules well yet... expect a some dice rolling at least for a while. We can go into more depth with our characters as the campaign progresses, assuming we make it through the first adventure, that is.

Recruitment is now closed.

what time period is season 2 set in? Is't it set in the 50s? Or are we fast forwarding to 2075? Denver has changed a lot in the last 20 years

Just curious, want to do a little research before i start working on my background.

I'm definitely up for it if there's room. I have an elf street samurai/stealth specialist that I can tweak to fit into the setting.

Here's a link to what I've worked on so far: http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=18486.0

I'm in.

Also, I'm slightly conditional in that I'm in it for the fun and the roleplaying and the decently mature respectful players and the teamwork and then more fun of course :)  I'm guessing we are on the same page here, but if not I can bail out and that's cool, no hard feelings.

I'm probably going to create a character who is from Seattle if that's cool, then our actual runs can happen where ever.

This is what I'm imagining...when you GM you can play your character as an NPC, you will have to post more often, have to keep player posts and GM posts separate some how, and do it all in a mature responsible way (you will know everything but your character wont).  It's also totally cool to have your character be off some place else, it happens, and it's easy to explain in game...like a TV show, not every single character will be in every single episode.

I'm cool being the GM on deck.

What feel are we going for?  Gritty, glamorous, street level, corp level, and are we focusing on a particular geographical area/shared setting or will the setting keep changing as the GM changes?

Also...I'm posting on a handful of threads and my brain is fizzing a bit so apologies if I get mixed up and post the wrong thing in the wrong place.  If that seems to be happening feel free to pick me up and put me back on the tracks ;)

I think it wouldn't matter all that much what the GM picks for a setting. We just start a new PbP with the new GMs wishes and port the runners over. The tone could change from GM to GM with a small does of handwaveium. Honestly though i say we stick with souffle_girl's wishes as the first GM, then see if it even makes it past the first mission. Sadly PbP have a high attrition rate around here :(

I completely agree with you.

I think you're exactly right about setting. Having some characters hop around cities seems reasonable, especially if a run goes south. Or we can break the continuity between them if the campaigns are just drastically different. I don't think that's too big a mental stretch. This might even be necessary depending on how many folks are lost between campaigns.

I think this will vary a bit GM to GM and that might be a very good thing. My preference is for somewhere between pink mohawk and black trenchcoat, a believable setting that allows for some PC ridiculousness every so often. Geographically, I have no preference as most places are fairly new to me.

I'm in as well, if you'll have me.

I'll think of something interesting and try and get a character up soon. I would also like to hold off on GMing a bit, never done one for Shadowrun before. So, I might as well see how the group's style is before I try my hand.

For style, I can fit anywhere on the scale (ok, haven't gotten a group that's 100% Pink Mohawk yet, but I probably could do it). Up or down on the fame/glamor scale is also fine for me.

How does adept secret agent sound?  Good with guns, and also some face skills and some covert ops skills...is it too much like the street sam/stealth specialist ?

I could also go sniper/wheelman...sort of a general cover from afar role, but not a rigger/hacker.

I'm definitely interested as well.

I played shadowrun 1e-3e and then did the whole married/kids/family thing.  Now I'm back for 5e and I'm jonesing for some action.

Ditto all the above about role playing and having a fun atmosphere.  I'm not here to explore anybody's 'magical realm' ;).

I have several character ideas, but I'm leaning towards a Technomancer.

To clarify, the concept I had was a commando type. No B&E skills to speak of. She's the one who watches the infiltrator's back. So depending on your skillset there might not be too much overlap there. Hell, as far as I'm concerned, the more sneaky characters the better.

This could work well then, I scout the area while you cover me...then I con the guards and party goes while explaining away why you're with me...then I get us through the window and proceed to cover you and take cover myself while you sneak down the hall ahead of me...does that sound about right?

While my decker watches all your backs from the Matrix - while sitting comfortably in her living room  ;D

Speaking of which, I have a possible build for her here.

Yup. The character I was working on has huge dice pools with assault rifles, knives, sneak, and perception. She's sneaky backup and then helps shoot your way out if it's necessary. I just need to do some research on Denver to fit her to the setting a bit.

i wanted to give everyone time to throw a few ideas around before i picked. Seeing what everyone else is rolling up, it seems the perfect time to throw in my Sioux mage. Denver is definitely the right place for him and I've been itchin to play a mage recently

@souffle_girl
have you picked a time period for the game yet?
