@red - actually we're up Vermont way at the moment with my wife's family and only heading into New York for the wedding so it's not likely to work out.  Thanks for the offer though.  If nothing else, I'll see you at GenCon?

--

For reference, here's the roll for starting cash I did:  http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3013244/.  If you have a different way to do starting cash, let me know.  It's a low lifestyle so that works out to 600 on hand nuyen to start out with.

--

Here's a few build questions I ran into:

  • Any problem with Cluster Grenades from War?  They're within the availability limits, but since they're technically military tech, I thought I'd ask.  Page 157 if you're looking for them.
  • Also grabbed the Ballistic Mask from War.  Handy for disguise and even handier for armor bonuses.
  • The Camera Neutralizer in Arsenal requires capacity 5 which, in turn, means a Sensor Package at the Mounted/Small Drone level.  I've always imagined this like the repair droid from Star Wars.  That work for you?  Probably isn't actually mobile, but it would be something we can toss into an area that's about toaster sized that tries to whack cameras.  Then, we head in, pick it up, and move on.  Granted, this assumes that I'm not hacking the damned things, but there are ways to keep me from doing so.  This is the back-up plan!
  • I modded the weapon for my dude with rules from Arsenal.  That good?  If not, that's cool.  It was for recoil primarily.
  • Something I never noticed before:  the Keycard Copier has a rating, but I couldn't find a reason for it.  I got it at 6 just cause I could, but if anyone can find why that rating exists, that'd be cool too.
  • I had originally hoped to initiate and get Item Attunement for my Commlink.  However, I just noticed that you're not supposed to be able to use Attunement for items that you interact with electronically via DNI.  Do you have a problem waving this limitation because, otherwise, there really isn't a way to use a commlink that effectively as an Adept Hacker without DNI.

--

I will have you a sheet, backstory, contact information, basic matrix iconography, and stuff tomorrow.

Has a topic been made for character sheets and backrounds? or are we putting those sheets here? Is this game going to be Karma heavy/money light, even, or money heavy/karma light? Also I'm still waiting on the legal lowdown you spoke of.

Any spell requests fellas? Just finishing up my character and I have room to move a few spells around. He has the basics:

Stunball, Heal, Improve Reflexes, Improved Invisibility, Trid Phantasm, Silence, Alter Memory, Control Thoughts, Influence, Mana Static, Levitate, Mob Mind

If you guys would like to tie in with my character, I'd put the 10 karma into more spells. I figure it might come in handy to have a Physical combat spell just in case, and perhaps Magic Fingers.

Summary:

Calvin Morris (Nadir)
Known as Ides, Kurotaro, Numbers/Numbs to older acquaintances
Human, Mage (Chaos Mage), originally from Toronto now located in Seattle (or wherever we are)

History: Corp kid from Cross Allied Technologies, Crash 2.0 didn't affect him much but it did render his student scholarship on hold since CAT was busy being gobbled up by Damien Knight. CAT still has his info, though they're 10 years out of date by now. Ares may or may not have access to that database.

He was a student in thaumaturgical studies in the University of Toronto but was only in his first year when Crash 2.0 happened. To make ends meet he helped some unsavoury mages with some spells. That's his first step into the shadows. He was busy doing design and support before joining a team, then another, then several others before going relatively solo.

He has a legitimate UCAS SIN, and lists himself as an independent magical consultant mostly to appease his parents.

Oddest thing? Though he subscribes to the recent Chaos Magician movement he has a different view on Spirits, believing them to be more than just constructs shaped by a metahuman's will. He's rather adamant about it, setting him apart from hermetics and chaos mages alike. Word is that a Dragon spirit has taken to mentoring the young mage, helping with spell design and personal matters.

Oh, and he can be a bit singleminded and overconfident.

Summary:

Emma Uisge (alias: slip)
Affectionately Known as Old Timer or OT by members of the ork Underground since she's been around from the founding.
Elf, Free runner, Courier (Covert ops specialist), Born in Seattle back in January 2012 she was part of the very first generation of metahumans.

History: (abridged) Born in 2012, her parents worked for Federated Boeing, educated and later employed herself by Fedboeing she worked there with her family till the night of rage. After her family was killed by members of the hand of five she escaped and hid in Evertt until days after, returning only to collect her things and attend to her parents wakes. her parents left her everything as well as their life insurance policies totaling out to around (680,000 nuyen.)

After leaving FB she moved to Downtown Seattle's elven district and learned about the growing ork underground. She began working with the underground to help her fellow metahumans and build a better future for metahuman rights. She worked as a courier moving intel, and packages across Seattle for the underground and helped warn safe houses when lone star and KE where coming to raid them. In 2056 She was introduced to a veteran shadow runner named shaker as someone with potential. They moved back to Everett and  he saw to passing along some of the hard learned tricks of being a specialist at infiltration and teaching her Krav maga his martial art of choice. After the 2nd matrix crash she started working the shadows. mostly hooding against the gangs in her community and breaking into secured places as practice and making off with anything she or her friends can use.

She maintained(/s) close ties with the ork underground and continues to help in the community shelter near her apartment that is run by the underground. She also remains close with Shaker who's turned fixer and has plenty of connections to other runners and well supplied individuals.

Slip is easy to get along with. She's been around long enough to know how things work in the world. Having seen the worst of what people are capable of she's learned that there's a time to be merciless, but that time doesn't have to be all the time. there are plenty of good things to enjoy in the world and while she's had to kill more than once to save herself or someone else, it isn't something to do lightly.

(if anyone wants to tie into her back story let me know via PM.  @Red I'll post the rest tomorrow.)

Red, I'll give you some further details on Op's personality, contacts, Matrix iconography, and the like tomorrow. I also wish to expand on his Auburn warehouse lifestyle.

For everyone else, here's the dirt that's fit to dish on Op.  PM me if you'd like to know more.

Summary
Toshiro Takahashi aka Operator, Tosh, Wraith (old alias)
Male human, weapon specialist (or street sam 'lite') with solid social skills. Sharp eyes and ears, competent gunsmith.

History in a Nutshell
A former security officer and native-born citizen of the Japanese empire. During his history of employment with Mitsuhama Computer Technologies, Toshiro worked hard to reinforce the safety of what he believed was his company's most valuable assets - its people. While his tour of duty within the armed forces was helpful in securing an initial foothold within MCT, Toshiro's work ethic and mannerisms allowed him to not only retain his job, but to excel and even earn a promotion.

Unfortunately, this would not last forever. Disgraced in April 2061 through scheming and internal politics, Toshiro drafted a letter of resignation. He signed the document with his name in blood, using a letter opener to draw out precious red ink from his finger. Having completed his jihyo, Toshiro quickly departed his Kyoto office and sought out passage to North America through Yakuza channels. If nothing else, they were understanding of his reasons to leave.

Operator has worked in the shadows for at least a decade, scraping together what nuyen he can to make a living. While familiar with the Seattle shadow scene, he made a few enemies while learning the ropes; recent harassment from the Halloweeners prompted Operator to destroy his Wraith persona and start anew.

Operator is currently holed up in Auburn with the working stiffs of Seattle, having the dubious honor of calling a sparsely decorated warehouse his home.

Points of Interest
Racial Moderate:
For a native-born Jap, Operator has not a single racist bone in his body. (Clean-ist, however..)
While he can't always afford to be picky with jobs, he does not enjoy the thought of working with anti- or pro-metahuman organizations, and refuses to perform wetwork targeted at either side of the great race debate.

Cleanliness/Tidiness:
Operator is.. obsessive with the desire to attain and maintain cleanliness. A large portion of his life was spent in the service of the JIS military and to Mitsuhama, where he was expected to look his best at all times. Dirty and messy things/people/places tend to bother him and he isn't afraid of using subtle language to communicate that concept.

I'm always a fan of Foreboding :)

I'm working things up now and will post stuff shortly.  Will be happy to link up back stories with you all but with a wedding tomorrow and 16 hours of driving on Monday and maybe some of Tuesday, that might not work out so well.  We'll see what happens.

Ok backgrounds are looking good, when I have all the finals I will send PMs with the extra points. I am looking at character sheets today and tomorrow primarily. For the name of the campaign I will be using is Out of the Frying Pan. I put a c haracter sheet post up so you can post the characters for this game there and then link them to your sigs if you wish. I would use the big book of runners but I would like to keep the sheets in an easy to find place. I would also prefer to discuss the sheets in PM and then just have you modify the post to keep the post count down, once again for ease of finding and reading.

@dash- Unfortunately I did not get approved for vacation for Gen-con again this year so no con for me. oh well. looking over your questions however I don't mind military grade equipment being bought at creation, so long as it does not break availability or rating restrictions, so that gear is OK. I don't see why you can't use item attunement through a DNI, you can cast spells through cyber eyes, so why not this consider it approved.

For linking players you don't not have to go into great detail this can be done latter, all you need is one or two lines on the relationship and that is good enough for me. its the connection that makes it easier for me and creates some good RP.

Teyl-Iliar and everyone else as they may wish to know as well. I typically give about 6 karma per run and pay is around 20,000 for low end jobs like breaking into some nobodies house and stealing something of little value to mid range wetwork 100,000 killing another team or mid level corp executive. Negotiation rolls can net more but it is in increments of 1%. Jobs are not payed by runner but by job, I always found it odd when the job changed price because the team size did, to the Johnson a job is a job and they don't care how many employees you have, they pay for the job. As I have said before you do not have to take a job and can do whatever you wish I will run in reaction to you especially on PbP as it is easier to do so. These amounts are considered standards that are well known. If a payment seems odd there is probably a reason the Johnson is new, the Johnson doesn't intent to pay you, or there is something he is not telling you. Hopefully that answers your question, as I don't play in many games I have little bases to compare the amounts to to see if they are low or average and what not.

Another thing to note is time I will try to time stamp each of my posts, and down time will effect things in game. It takes time to train skills and the such as per the book. I will give one to three(1d6/2) weeks between runs unless asked to do otherwise by the players.

and now to start looking at those characters. :)

Background

James Carmichael, aka JC or Jace, was born to Alex and Megan Carmichael on November 28, 2048.  His father was Elven while his mother was Human.  This mixed metatypical background resulted in his own Human metatype.  When he was six, he lost his mother to a car accident.  Both he and his father were in the car at the time.  Paramedics ruled that the death was a result of a spontaneous heart attack at the time of the accident.  Alex broke his collar bone in the accident, so James was cared for by Jackson Cross, Megan's brother.

After Megan’s death, Alex decided to immigrate to the Tir Tairngire, specifically Portland.  Due to his age, James was brought along.  In the Tir James was the subject of some reverse discrimination as a result of his metatype.  The other children were, by and large Elves or Dwarves and both groups tended to use James’s difference as a way of ostracizing him.  The Elves did more than the Dwarves, often resorting to the use of Sperethiel in his presence.  Little did they know that his father had given him some rudimentary lessons in the language and he understood some of what they were saying.  His treatment at the hands of his Elven peers is what led to his bias against that metatype.  It’s rarely evident, but at times he suffers from a initial prejudice against them.  His treatment at the hands of the other elves, his father's distance due to his professional life, and Jace's growing sense of isolation strained his relationship with others and drove him toward the matrix for socialization.

Jace grew up in the Tir until he was 16 and the Crash 2.0.  Jace was actually jacked-in during crash but doesn't remember exactly what happened.  He remembers something breaking through his high school's matrix defenses--something long, dark, and bristling--and then it's all black.  Unlike many, Jace woke up quickly suffering only some minor neurological damage that now manifests as his Scorching.  When he awoke, he found out that his father was in a coma similar to that of many.  While he awoke days later, Jace took his chance.  Having never felt comfortable in the Tir in the first place, he decided to make a run for it.  He skipped town out of Portland and headed north only to be quickly apprehended at the border between the Tir and the Salish landsLuckily, the processing systems for the Tir authorities were still fucked due to the Crash so Jace was able to slip away, cross the border, and quickly get arrested by the Salish authorities.  They, too, were dealing with the after effects of the Crash.  While they kept a better watch on Jace and the others border crashers, they were willing to turn him over to UCAS authorities when he name dropped his uncle, Jackson Cross.  The Salish turned him over to an Officer David Decker, a Lone Star corrections officer at the Seattle border.

Jackson -- or Jax to his friends -- was more than happy to take James in.  Jax ran a computer technician's business out of Renton and quickly put Jace to work.  For the next few years, Jace did odd jobs for Jax and learned more about the matrix and about hacking.  It wasn't long until he began to make a bit of a name for himself in and around Renton as a guy who could get things done if they needed doing online.  In 2070 -- when Jace was 22 -- he started more serious Shadowrunning work operating for Luna, a Fixer also in Renton.  The jobs were usually small with Jace acting as Matrix support for other teams but one of the jobs brought him back in touch with Officer Decker.  Decker caught Jace's team red handed but decided that it was more interesting to cause trouble for KE than to get a bust that was outside his jurisdiction.  Since that job Jace has kept in touch and used Decker as a source for information on KE activities.

Iconography
Online, Jace uses the icon of a rotund boy wearing red coveralls and a black shirt.  He uses an agent that has the same icon but with black coveralls and a red shirt.  He calls the agent Tweedle-Dum and seems to refer to his commlink as Tweedle-Dee.  His programs all complete his iconography; his Attack is a sling-shot, Armor is a baseball cap (backwards of course), Trace is a Kick-Me sign that travels through the matrix to land itself on the target icon, for example.

---

I figure the open-ended jobs that Jace did for others is a good tie in for anyone who wants to have worked with Jace in the past.  As you can tell from the comments above, Jace is Awakened, but he's an Adept.  If you've worked with him, he doesn't really talk about his powers much; in fact if you don't have the ability to see Astral, it might not be apparent that he is an Adept.

Let me know if you want any tie-ins.  I could use the extra Karma to initiate and attune my commlink *grin*

Just use quotes for OOC questions and rolls in the main thread. It makes it easier for me to keep track of everything if it is in one place. If that is a problem for you all then I will open up an OOC thread for you to do other stuff in.

Ok, I just figured it'd be good for long discussions and for actions inbetween missions. Just a suggestion :)

that's cool most of the lengthy discussion can happen in character. I usually give alot of time to plan a job, and very rarley do rush jobs. but when I do there is not allot of time to discuss so not having an OOC area is more realistic.
