In the SR4A rulebook, page 328, sim modules for commlinks are priced at "100+" for cold and "250+" for hot.

But I can't find what the + is for.  Are sim modules rated for some reason?  Is there ever any reason to pay more than the base cost?  I've searched the book but can't find an explanation.

Thanks

I think it's like TVs.  You can get a little one for $100 or a big one for $5000, but they all display images.  So while the quality of a more expensive sim mod might be better, it has no game effects.

Exactly as Tsuarok says.  If you want a fancy-schman cy one, just decide to pay more than the list price.

In Augmentation, there ae even some cybernetic implants that work like that.  Engraved Datajack, for example.  Sure, you can get a simple pattern, maybe a phrase, for the basic price.  But if you want gold inlay, and a few precious stones mounted on it?  Pay more:)

I suspected as much.  Thanks for the confirmation.
