Stryker just stands one step behind Mata, and a bit to the left, watching the negotiations. He gives in to the temptation, and gives their employer a quick look through his Inner Eyes.
Intuition(5)+Assensing(2) (7d6.hits(5)=3)
He tries to both find out his emotions, and look at his aura, and find out if this disability could be cured in any non-invasive way. Using the trodes he has on Stryker sends the info on his emotional status to Mata Tabi...

Seeing the pleasant-looking ranch, Eight-Stone opted to leave his axe in the van. Eight-Stone generally conisdered it a good idea to come armed to a meet, just in case it was a set-up or a brawl broke out or something similar. But that seemed unlikely in this setting, so Eight-Stone decided to relax.

Following the others in, Eight-Stone resisted the urge to pull up an AR window for a quick game of Starcraft as Mata handled all the boring back-and-forth of negotiation. It's not that Eight-Stone didn't appreciate the extra nuyen, it's just that he didn't really have the patience for bartering.

However, the intial sum leads me to assume that it is both important, and that although high, there is room to negotiate as no one starts at their highest number.
Mata Tabi waited for the negotiations to begin, his smile never leaving him.

I'm used to, most of my clients smoke, they can affort lungs replacement.
And I do not have time for haggling, I named the price. I may agree however on higher advance - you may need some money to succeed.

Quote
OOC: you'll get 8 000 NY upfront and 17 000 NY after. You can either split it already and write onto your sheets, or Mata keeps all. Rolls were made, so I am assuming you took the job, and proceeded to details.

Now, the  “package”  is actually is a live person.

Earlier today, a midranking Ares executive (Jonathan Belenkiy), a male in his mid to late thirties, was abducted by a team of shadowrunners. I had  received an anonymous call demanding that 250,000¥ be deposited into an account in the Zurich Orbital Bank before tommorow 9:00 am or he would be killed.

Your job is to find him and bring him back safely.

There was also an attachment to the ransom note claiming, that if I won't pay not only will the Belenkiy be killed but the word will be spread that Jaron Falcone deliberately chose to let the executive die.

If this word hits the streets it would be a quick end to the business I am having here. So there is a bonus if you find out who is behind this blackmail, there would be additional 5 000 NY for you.
Sorry for a small delay ;)

"Sounds reasonable, I'm in."
"Guys I'm gonna need this guys commlink to try to trace the call, think it's okay to ask outright?"

Cursor already felt helpful, this was good.

Stryker gives Mata his nod of approval, and then bows in a Japanese manner to the employer. Despite being just a kid, he looks business-serious.

Mata Tabi is pleased with the outcome of the negotiations, it was his raison d'etre in the group, his mind wandered again to wether others in the group knew theirs, but he quickly snapped out of that pondering. "An excellent idea Stryker-san. I believe it a prudent place to begin. Perhaps any on site surveillence, if any would be helpful. Our resident matrix specialist can even sort through any anomialies or purposeful editting with enough time, that being said....the sooner we can get such access the sooner we can retrieve your missing package." Mata Tabi retrieved the cigarette case and lit a gold filtered cigarette after opening it and getting one from inside. Mata Tabi left the conversation open, to either his team or Mr. Johnson.

The Belenkiy’s room has beeen sealed without touching anything.

There is a surveliance footage and it clearly show three figures, all either human or elven Amerindian women, entering the compound just before five o’clock this morning. They were all wearing light body armor and tribal masks. The footage is available for you to analyze if you wish.

As of your resident matrix specialist - we have our own, we've already confirmed that the security host was hacked into remotely around 8:30 A.M. Security protocols were able to keep the hacker from deleting the traces of the kidnappers entering the ranch. They node were rebooted, and are on active alert since mornign. We are pretty sure there were no further attempts.

Unfortunatelly I cannot grant you full access to the node. I have important guests paying for privacy.

"I might be able to trace the anonymous caller, I will need admin access to the device he called you on though."

The call was made from telecomunication central node. Our security officer supposed, that it was hacked from external place, and reported the incident. Their Matrix department reported back, that hack was made on them, confirming our guess. The only thing they've been able was that the call was made from Sioux sector, and they're triangulating it further as of now.

It's too much to hope the hacker will be at the same location now.

If you wish you may try your own investigation using my commlink, however I'll need to encrypt the private data first. which will take couple minutes.

"Of course, go ahead. If they made the call from a wireless device a trace ill tell us where it is now, not was. Hopefully they kept it with them."

He slipped into the data and resonance streams after texting the team, "Time to encrypt our comms guys, >HERE< is your password, if you all agree and give me access I'll encrypt your 'links and anything else you want too."

Now the Encryption rules in Anniversary are sketchy. Is this a success test where 1 success gives me rating 4 encryption? Or does rating 4 mean my successes are capped at 4? Or as no roll is listed under the action description can i just put a rating 4 encryption on whatever i want?

Stryker waits silently until they lead him to the place. He only ask one question when that happens, leaving the rest to his senses.
"Were there any signs of magic use during the kidnapping?"
He will Assense the room from both the Physical and Astral side, and investigate it with his mundane senses afterwards. Acting like a professional Magical Consultant he poses as, he will give the crime scene a thorough sweep, looking for biological samples from either the victim, or the kidnappers...

Several minutes later, Jaron nods and gives you his commlink unit - an single-ear speaker about 3 cm length. which you may use for tracing.

Hafiz leads you across the ranch, taking a few odd turns. You suspect that those are to keep solid objects between you and the executives who are still attending the leadership retreat. He is fairly easygoing and striking up a conversation with him about the biz is fairly simple. When you finally make it to Belenkiy’s room, there is an audible click as Hafiz overrides the locking mechanism and opens the door.

you've reached the room at 06:30 pm.

The Kidnapping Site

Drawers have been pulled out, clothing is everywhere and there’s a lingering scent of patchouli. It looks like someone searched this place in a hurry. The mess continues into the bathroom where cabinets have been pulled open and Belenkiy’s toiletry bag is spilled out onto the counter.

The cloying scent of patchouli is a remnant of the clove cigarettes that Belenkiy smokes. A very good ones, hand made. There are eight cigarette butts in the sink. The cigarette case and a small pill-box with a natural sleeping aid can be found in the scattered remains of his toiletry kit.

What keeps your attention though is an obsidian knife thrust into the wall just above the bed.

Strykers astral examination brings results. He picked up the traces of Eternal Ones and by the manaflows ripples he recognize the use of their concealment power.
Quote
OOC: you can sense this only because of critical success, normally for the power to last almost 13 hours it would have to been 14 Force strong. There is no active spells, though.

Searching the room brought another findings:
  • a commlink, stylized pair of glasses which runs electrodes down the back of the skull to create a solid link
  • an engraved pocket watch the inscription reveals that the watch was a gift to Belenkiy from the VP of Ares Research and Development Division for an outstanding achievement last quarter
  • a crow’s feather wrapped in leather is under the pillow on the bed.

the time now is 06:45 pm. 14:15 hours to the ransom deadline

Stryker does a quick sweep through his files, and his own memory looking for clues on the feather, and the knife. He also picks up one of the cigarette butts - the one that seems most fresh - and one of the pills, and puts them in separate zip bags. He stops by the watch for a while...

Wilco, notices the watch tries to determine it's value. Makes a mental note to lookinto the achievement made on the last quarter and last quarter and to see if anyone may have a grudge. Also, Wilco is interested in the feather "ask group if it may be a focus of some sort?" Being he is not awaken, hes heard of such but doesn't actually know what 1 may look like. Informs the group the the van is ready to roll when needed. Wilco then goes to the van to make sure his drones are ready. starting with the stormcloud. Ask the group subvocially about leaving a fly-spy drone in the room.
