Just picked it up. I'm sad that Rei Bluestone's art doesn't match her description. I think that's some ol' shaman art, if I recall, not an awesome SURGE blue skin 4 armed cook.

Glad you like her.

Thought it was still a week off. Woo!

As usual, if y'all see any errors, point 'em out and I'll try and consolidate and send teh whole thing upstairs.

(jots down the art note)

Otherwise, feel free to talk about it. Some neat stuff in there!

Is that weird blue dome thing suppose to be the Renraku Arcology? I thought it was suppose to be more pyramid shaped. Seeing how I'm reading Never Deal with a Dragon I know the Arcology is off Alaskan Way and that's the only big building off Alaskan.

I didn't see an update on organized crime. Not specifically that is. I see that each section has a small write up on what organized crime is doing in each section of the sprawl, but I was kind of hoping for more details on the movers and shakers, who's rising and who's falling, etc.

I'm a little annoyed that Brackhaven is still in power after Splintered State. But Seattle Plots looks pretty fun to play and to finally see him go down. So...I guess that's cool...

Everything takes time.

[spoiler]
In the context of the entire set, it allows for a greater emphasis on what kind of chaos a gubernatorial resignation unleashes on Seattle. Plus, and I base this only on what little I think I know, more people are likely to read and play the plot adventures in Tangled Threads than Splintered State.

Picked it up last night.
Mostly pretty good, npcs are well done (errors however), the sourcebooky parts are good (why a whole booklet on political scene?), and the map cards are ok.

My only real complaint so far is what is the point of that large, red, Seattle "map"?
It offers zero information. No neighborhood border (wtf?!), no points of interest, no major roads or highways called out. Unless I'm missing some thing here it's literally a complete waste of time offering zero utility.

Can someone explain whay you'd comission a map without any map information?!

Boggles the mind.

While you are waiting for CGL to sort out the map (maybe wrong one downloaded?), while not official  Chinagreenelvis (yes, the name reads like a Laundry list monster, best not to ask ;) ) has started up a nice Shadowrun Map Project kicking off with a Seattle Map here:
http://www.chinagreenelvis.com/gaming/tools/shadowrun/map/

You can zoom in and out, with road names when zoomed in on alot of it, as well as showing a number of locations they have tried to fit in according to canon, but it's not necessarily 100% along with gangs and other points of interest you can click on for more details.

Something you can use and if you go to the main link for the project he has a public access version you can edit to taste for your own campaign or  submit your own additions to share with the community.

Do you believe in a greater WIRELESS, an Invisible(WiFi) All Seeing(detecting those connected- at least if within 100'), All Knowing(all online data) Presence that we can draw upon for Wisdom(downloads & updates), Strength (wifi boni) and Comfort (porn) or do you turn your back on it  (Go Offline)?

Yeah that map needs all the detail not none imo.  Seriously, dig it.  I see this as an excellent source material to go with the previous boxsets and really be an added to the resources of the new budding GMs.  It has some nice little tidbits for those of us more experienced but I still will be picking it up.  Just give me a better detailed map!

After reviewing it in depth over the weekend, I've found quite a few grammatical errors along with errors like the art...will be posting a list of problems in the next few days for you to ship upstairs, Wakshaani.  It's an interesting amount of stuff but it needed that extra week in editing to make it really pop it seems.

Starting off with the character cards:

Nyssa Hallas' art shows a Caucassion elf when the card describes her as a black furred nocturna

Lancer: Card says she never removes her helmet but the art shows her with no helmet on

Katsu Takashima: card says he's an adept yet art shows him with cyberware, under SPELLS Lightning Bolt, Mass Agony, and Stunbolt shouldn't be bold

Quinn "Chippie" Turk: under QUALITIES Day Job 3 and Home Ground (Street Politics) shouldn't be bold

Lady Zelda: the second line of the second paragraph shouldn't be indented

...And the worst for last...

Gregory "The Red Stare" Orlov: archetype lists him as "Street Dweller/Wannabe Runner" (which is a copy of Kevin) when it should read something like "Vory fixer" or "Vory fence"; under KNOWLEDGE SKILLS Games of Chance 5 and Smuggling Operations 4 shouldn't be bold; under CONTACTS it lists Mafia Consigliere [Connection 3/Loyalty 2] but Orlov is part of the Vory not the Mafia

Artwork -- as always -- is to be taken with a grain of salt.  Writers and artists don't generally have the opportunity to collaborate, and in some cases (like this one) most of the card art is re-used artwork from other books, anyways;  so the art director made do with what was available to him, based on the information he was given (which isn't always the information provided by the writer).

It helps, whenever you're reading a game book, to just think "Wow, what a neat picture!  I wonder what tangentially-related-at-best neat text goes with it!"  Any time we can line things up better than that (like the SR5 cover and intro fic) is icing, not cake.  No one's thrilled about it, but that's just how it works.
