Why, hello! This Saturday 'm gonna GM a  Mission for a home game. The adventure has a pair of interesting underwater sections and I wonder if anyone has used the underwater rules that appear in Run & Gun. Do they work? Anything you had to houserule? What was your experience with these rules?

Also, what's stopping players from getting an Armor Jacket (or a SWAT armor) on top of the Diving Armor/Diving Suit? Is there any kind of box or container that is waterproof? In case they wanna transport something without proper modifications.

Thanks!
Booyah!

Haven't used the rules yet.

As for container: I'd go with a sealed hard shell case described in the explosives chapter. That one should be able to seal tightly even at higher water pressure.

Just remember water, and especially salt water, is murder on wireless because even a little bit creates quite a bit of noise. (Core pg 231)

Which is not really a problem if you run wireless off, but it can play merry havoc if you need some info from the Matrix and you aren't tapping into a hardline connection.
Do you believe in a greater WIRELESS, an Invisible(WiFi) All Seeing(detecting those connected- at least if within 100'), All Knowing(all online data) Presence that we can draw upon for Wisdom(downloads & updates), Strength (wifi boni) and Comfort (porn) or do you turn your back on it  (Go Offline)?

We used them a while back for a portion of a run that happened at sea, they worked ok.

1). if the team wants armor they need to get the armored diving suit from R&G, no way are they wearing a standard armored vest/ jacket underwater...ha!

2). firearms do not work underwater (look up the mythbusters episode) so that means exotics like spearguns, gyrojets etc.

3). If any your runners have skillwires installed they will rule as they can just slot a chip and be able to dive like a pro and use those underwater exotic weapons.

4). Matrix will not work underwater, it blocks all radio traffic after your're more than a few inches underwater. No smartlink bonusess etc.

5). Astral projection under water is mostly useless due to visibility being blocked by tiny marine organisms (plankton, zooplankton etc).

That's a nice suggestion. Will check it, thanks.

Uh, there's a Rigger in the team. Is he screwed?

On top of the suit, I mean. They could simply get a normal diving suit (or the armored) and an armor at the same time. They won't stack, that I know, but what about the benefits of Insulation and protection against pressure and/or cold?

Ever tried swimming in clothes?  Not fun.  I haven't read the rules in R&G, so not sure if they cover this already.  If they don't, off the top of my head I'd give a -2 for basic clothes (jeans, shirt, shoes), -4 for heavier clothes (jackets, boots etc), another -(armor/4) for the extra bulk and weight, and -(encumbrance) for additional items like forearm guards.  So for example armored clothes would give -4, armored jacket with forearm guards would give -8.

For the rigger, long cables are more feasible in water, and for modest range may be able to use ultrasonic communication?  Do note that regular drones won't be designed for working in water.

Rigger 5 has some underwater drones that work fine, but they are not cheap.

Agreed. This looks like a 'training wheels' edition, that you can use to introduce someone to the setting, and then shift over to something like 5E or 4E. Like how D&D 5E is best used as training wheels for D&D 3.X.

Turned in Toxshaman for ¥1 million/4 once.

No and no.
Putting any normal clothing over your wetsuit is insane and would not work causing all kinds of issues, like drowning and not being able to swim.

It's either armored swimming gear (in run and gun) or nothing.

Regarding that rigger and wireless stuff:
Wireless does not work underwater IRL (not sure what crapfest Shadowrun implements for this exactly) so you would need a cabled connection from the rigger to the drone. Or give it basic commands and have it drive itself. Remember smartlinks and anything that benefits from wireless / matrix access will not work underwater. This includes comlinks and decks (unless they are cabled to a floating, wireless buoy on the surface).

OR the form fitting armor in run n gun and the diving suit + whatever wears spells that boost armor think I recall a mod that encases your gun in an air tight seal too and theres a harpoon gun in run n gun that uses the archery skill

FYI bullets do not work underwater, regardless of firing mechanism.

They will shoot about 12" or less and stop, dead.

Go lookup mythbusters episode.

To fire underwater you need specially designed projectiles such as those found in spearguns or gyrojet pistols.

If you want to carry a normal weapon underwater for use when you get out of the water stick it in a plastic bag that you can pull the trigger through.
That way when you exit the water you don't need to take the bag off, just pull the trigger and fire through the bag.

Also trying to wear form-fitting body armor underneath form-fitting wetsuit is not going to work.
Wetsuits need the heat of your body to function, sticking form-fitting body armor under it is daft, it won't fit and it will make you die of cold.

Now if you had a DRY suit you might be able to get away with sticking form-fitting body armor under that...
