Marco is shocked at Firefly's response. Until he remembers. Firefly just underwent a nasty, traumatic healing at the hands of his Daemon. And then unbidden into his mind comes the words, Geek the Mage first. It was why he was always so hesitant to reveal any of his abilities. But here, for a short while he'd let his guard down. He'd have to remember to be far more careful about revealing himself in Poland. Poland. Every time he thought about that he remembered what their mission was in Poland, to kill all the gang members of a woman who was their boss. People who'd had nothing to do with the original feud. People who'd not even been born. He knew that Nicolai deserved death, and probably Tsina, and maybe the gang members. But, if they died then there was no chance of redemption. And Marco knew that every soul was redeemable. Even Nicolai, even Tsina. But Yelena would not see that. Ever. He'd thought that if he went there would be a way to help at least some of them come to the knowledge of J, to be the voice of reason that saved some of them. But, he'd just watched Firefly and Yelena cold-bloodedly discussing killing Dana. He would follow Yelena into Hell. He loved her that much. But, if he did, would he love himself? Would there even be anything of him left? He didn't recognize himself already. He'd saved lives at the bridge and in this room. But, he'd still participated in the deaths of others. Who am I? I left the church because I didn't want to become an assassin? But now, instead of killing one, I help kill many. Where do I draw the line? And if I do this, who will be there to save me? And in that moment Marco knew he couldn't do it. Not because he loved Yelena less. Or even himself more. But because there would be no self left to save. He'd do this. They were counting on him. He'd do this one last thing. And then he'd tell them goodbye.
He turns and looks at Yelena and nods, I love you scary lady. He thinks to her sadly. The spell would have let everyone see, and trust, and truly communicate with each other. But, they would never trust him to cast it.
And he wouldn't tell them about Blakes' offer. It was way to dangerous. The chances of someone getting killed were to high. No, he'd make the transfer and that was it. It presented the least amount of risk, and Marco just did not have the heart to watch one of them die.
To Blake he says, No, we'll make the transfer at the crossroads I named. We're in far to bad a shape for anything else. Blakes' reply is swift, Copy, on my way. Then he turns to the team "It's ok, Blake was just finalizing the details for Dana's transfer. But, I can do it, no problems."
