Hi all,
I'm soon to start running a campaign and figure having a PC-level decker/rigger would be a good way to fill two roles that my players aren't so likely to take. Turns out making this character was a giant headache and I had to make some painful compromises, but I feel like she's playable and might even leave the truck once in a while. The one thing I cut that I'd like to include would be the Gearhead quality for 11 karma, but I don't see where that's coming from except by cutting Sneaking and Perception.

I'd love a better vehicle one day, but the Toyota Gopher reminds me too much of the amazing Toyota Hilux so I can live with the less-stylish pickup: https://medium.com/war-is-boring/ea4a121e948b

Thanks in advance for any critique and proofreading.

Seeing as you've already passed the essence loss point of lowering your social limit, why not take some of your more expensive cyberware as used? (control rig & right arm) That would free up a fair amount of nuyen to throw into other things.

That said, I think you need to go over it again and tighten up the numbers. (ie; Essence Loss vs Current Essence)

FYI: You actually have 5 extra karma. The Electronics SG only costs you 15 karma, not 20. The values listed in each column are as if you are starting with no ranks in the skill/skill group. So to go from 0 to 2 costs 15 karma (Each rank costs (Rank*5) karma, so Rank 1 is 5 points, Rank 2 is another 10 for 15 total).

Also, (although the math comes out correct in the end) raising Sneaking from 1 to 2 costs 4 karma and Perception from 1 to 3 costs 10 karma. You have 6 & 8, so the overall karma cost is the same. Although, with the 5 extra karma picked up above, you could drop Perception to 2 and pick up Gearhead if you want.

Also, you're going to want to avoid Data Bombs like the plague.

consider a used r3 rea enchancer, a rea of 2 for a rigger isn't enough

Reaction 2 for ANYONE is a bad plan; for a rigger, that's dumpstatting one of your key attributes.

also, pilot aerospace at R4? planning a shadowrun to the corporate space station? if not, i'd advise ditching that and getting something more down to earth (lol). something like pilot walker would be of more use to your char.

Thank you thank you thank you everyone. Great feedback all around. I checked my math and considered just where she'll be used most so shuffled some things around per your recommendations. Turns out decking and rigging are pretty distantly related specialties. A couple thoughts on your responses:

Csjarrat: About Pilot Aerospace 4: She's unlikely to ever use it, but how cool is it to have it? I'll ponder more and if I decide to ditch it I'll put it in Pilot Walker. Because she'll be an NPC I'm not too worried about making her the most practical character.

JackVII, thanks for clearing that up! I misinterpreted the chart but the description on page 105 is clear. Reducing Sneaking, this gives me enough karma for Gearhead! Woohoo! No, the sneaking isn't so useful, but it gives her some room to grow.

Per Novocrane, Kanly, and RHat's advice, I changed the cyberarm and control rig to used and got Reaction Enhancers. Very good call. She's still not the fastest around, but I actually don't want her competing with the PCs for badassery. Even coming to you guys for advice gives her an edge.

(Note, so far as I can tell, you have to buy ammo and clips to hold the ammo separately, which is a level of detail that my group isn't interested in, so no buying empty clips unless they need them for some specific reason.)

Et Voila:
