Heyo! So there was still interest in a SR5 PBP game for beginners. I've never GM'd, so it'll be a learning experience for us all. I'm going to give priority to those that haven't played SR before or are more or less new. We're using SR5 standard chargen rules, RAW.

Post your characters here if you're interested. I'm planning on having recruitment go through Sunday and hopefully will have the game up and running early next week. Post your characters earlier than later, as I'd rather not read through 50 characters Sunday night. Of course nothing is set in stone, so feel free to tweak as you see fit until Sunday. I am planning on utilizing your negative qualities and backgrounds in-game, so make sure you can live with those consequences.

Best case scenario, I'd like players that are active to post updates at least once a day during the week. I'm a pretty active PBP player and would rather not have to hold up the action for other players. I assume that weekends are busy, so don't worry if you can't be as active during that time. We do all have lives in meat space, at least I'm assuming none of your are AI, so I'm not going to boot anyone for being less active now and then. We'll just work around schedules to keep the game moving along.

As far as the tone of the game, I'd like the players to have some influence. If you want to go pink mohawk, then feel free to run down the streets with your Stoner-Ares. If you want to play as a paranoid schizophrenic that thinks every vending machine you pass is a MAD scanner, feel free to wear your tinfoil hat. I'll probably make things a bit tougher for you as you flash your forbidden gear, but having fun is the bottom line for me, not going out of my way to dictate your style of play. We'll be starting out in Seattle and see where the wind takes us from there.

PM me if you have any questions. Looking forward to getting this going.

I love my adepts at the moment, so i've submitted two for your perusal: the first is deren, the adept equivalent of a street sam who's been laying low and needs to get back into the shadows to earn some cash and the 2nd is flea, a japanese free runner adept with secondaries in hacking and electronic warfare.
I'd love to play flea as she's only ever gotten to play a prologue before, this would be her first opportunity to go and earn some 5e karma :-)
it'd be great to play a middling game, mostly gritty but with the occasional guns blaring mohawk moment.
I'm GM'ing a 4e game but have never played 5e yet, would love to learn the rules in-game.
cheers for your time

I'm not a first time player so I won't apply for a slot, but I love this idea and if there is anything I can do to help let me know.

I'm not first-time, I'm an old 4E player who's come back after a few years, but I'd be interested if you don't get enough newbies applying.

Hi everyone. Thank you for the interest. Anyone is welcome to put in a character for consideration. I won't be eliminating players just because they aren't completely new to SR. I just figure with how few games keep popping up, if there are any new players that haven't gotten a chance to sign up yet, I'd give them priority. The more the merrier though! I'm looking to choose between 5-6 players based on how many characters I receive. Feel free to post them in the thread until Sunday. My wheels are all ready turning on the introductory mission. Once again, please have your characters in Seattle at the moment, but feel free to have their background bring them to Seattle from any walk of life you choose. I'll work with intertwining your paths once I've chosen the team. Hope everyone's Friday is going great!

Alright, so then I have a couple of characters to submit.  The first is a technomancer named Static- with him I'm playing up the lonely nethead geek/persecuted minority angle.  The second is a guy named Mattoon, who is sort of a MacGuyver/mad scientist/drug fiend/explosives expert characters.  Sort of a street same lite who has minimal cyber, strong technical skills (but isn't a decker or rigger), and is great with drugs and explosives.

Here's the sheet for Static.  Still finishing up Mattoon.

Contacts

Amy Wilson- Nurse at a Street Clinic
Connection 1, Loyalty 4
Amy is Static’s friend and sometimes love interest. She knows him by his real name, and even knows that he’s a technomancer. She works at a clinic in his area which is known for treating people (sometimes SINless people) with no questions asked.  In addition to getting him treated at the clinic, Amy can acquire medical supplies, and can provide in-home long-term care at a steep discount (because he pays her directly, cutting the clinic out of it).  She also sometimes watches over Static when he goes on particularly dangerous Matrix runs.  She has a UCAS SIN and no criminal record.

Mimir- Data Broker
Connection 5, Loyalty 2
Mimir makes a living buying and selling information of all kinds, from programs, to corporate R&D, fake ID’s, to insider information about organizations of all stripes.  He only meets his contacts in the matrix, so nobody knows who he is, and he typically won’t buy or sell anything physical.  He has developed a good working relationship with Static over the past one and a half years.  He is presumably an accomplished decker, but there’s no being sure of that.

“John Jackson”- Black Market Electronics Dealer
Connection 2, Loyalty 1
John specializes in buying and selling electronic gear of all kinds, including decks, commlinks, communications gear, software, sensors, and the occasional piece of electronic B&E gear.  He has known Static for  almost 2 years, but they don’t do business together all that often.

Biography

Eric Cardova was born with a SIN in the Pueblo Corporate Council.  He was a quiet, bookish kid who got along alright with his peers, but was physically clumsy, and always more interested in the matrix than in real life.  In his teens, he started to develop technomantic abilities.  He didn’t realize what he was doing for a long time, and once he did, he kept it secret from everyone he knew.

At the age of 17, Eric finally came out to his parents.  They were shocked- his father reacted as if he was some kind of criminal, while his mother seemed to think he was sick.  They both told him he should register as a technomancer with the government, as required by law.  His father largely stopped talking to him, while his mother kept suggesting that he seek “treatment,” whatever that meant.

Eric finally went to a government registration office.  Instead of registering as a technomancer as his parents expected though, he submitted false biometric data, ensuring that it would be almost impossible to match him to his SIN unless someone he knew identified him.  He then bought a plane ticket to Seattle and went off the grid for a while.  Once the new biometric data was processed into the system, he was effectively SINless.

For almost 2 years, Eric has just barely scraped by as a freelance hacker and computer programmer, and has only recently upgraded from a dingy squat to a real apartment.  He spends most of his time in the matrix or watching sports, and is a big Mariners fan.  He recently made the reluctant decision to try shadowrunning, knowing it was likely to involve more physical and outdoor activity than he is used to, but also represented his best shot at escaping poverty.

Never played Shadowrun before and been watching for a chance!  None of my friends have been willing...  Since I love the setting though I've been playing with making characters, my favorite being a Face/Decker.  He used to be a SINner working as a spider with a corp until he was framed and sent on the run.  After meeting a fixer he entered his new life of running the shadows, trying to hide from his old.

(Sorry if the sheet's a bit long with details, I formatted it for another thread I didn't manage to post in on time that asked for a lot of details to be shown.)
Runner Name: Shrike
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Metatype: Elf

It's been a few years now since Shrike's life was thrown in a hole.  He used to be a security spider with some fairly major corporation, though he won't say which or even where and prefers that no one asks.  That was until he just happened to be framed.  He found something during his job, something big the corp didn't want out. Yet Shrike got too curious and looked anyway, next thing he knew he found 1mil nuyen sitting in his account and an extremely blatant trail saying he had stolen it from his own corp.

They were fast to act, putting a warrant on his SIN and sending Shrike on the run.  He managed to hold on to some of the money before his bank account was locked, amusedly turning his framed crime into a real one.  Yet, without the knowledge of how to live in the shadows he was left hiding and wandering the streets.  Then he met Zack, a fixer who “relieved” Shrike of what money he had held onto and gave him a new life.  A fake SIN to move around with; new eyes, arms, face, and even voice to hide his previous identity; a run down apartment he himself could barely find at times; and a new Cyberdeck to get work. Now he's like anyone else in this forsaken world: taking whatever odd job Zack gives him, his outlook looking gloomier each and every day.

~QUALITIES~

Positive:
-Bilingual.  Shrike had to become fluent in Japanese as part of his former job, leaving him bilingual in both English and Japanese. (5)

-Codeslinger, Hack on the Fly.  Shrike vastly prefers the stealth approach to hacking, finding brute force unrefined and without style.  He's trained hard to this end, pushing his hacking on the fly abilities as high as they can go. (-10)

Negative:
-Code of Honor.  Shrike has vowed to do no harm to innocents (defined as those who have not committed crimes or raised arms against him), both in the physical world and the Matrix.  In the real world this means he will not kill any innocent, while in the Matrix he will not hack any icons owned by an innocent for personal profit or fun.  As an example, he may hack into a bank to retrieve a file or disable security at a physical location that's targeted for a run, however will not steal any money while he is in their systems. (15)

-Prejudiced, Outspoken Against Technomancers.  Oh, you think you're so fancy dontcha?  Able to hack with your MIND like some kind of magician, no offense to the real magicians out there.  Well look here, this is a deck. It costs more than your body's worth pal, though maybe not that fancy mind of yours.  You ever checked to see how much Technomancer brains go for? Lots of people wanting to find out how you tick...  I suggest you keep that gun to your side, boy, and those sprites away from my deck.  A few inches higher and an accident might just be waiting. (5)

-SINner, UCAS.  Shrike used to live a normal, SINful life.  His UCAS SIN is a remnant of those days, though he never uses it anymore due to the arrest warrant tied to it.  If he did, it's likely he'd find himself brought to "justice" before he could even take a step.  With the prevalence of biometrics, Shrike rightfully turned paranoid at hiding his old identity.  As part of Zack’s “new life package”, Shrike had his natural eyes removed and replaced with cybereyes to change his retina, his old hands chopped off to remove his fingerprints, had a voice modulator installed to subtly change the tone and inflections of his voice to defeat voice identification, and even underwent plastic surgery to disguise his face.  To top it off, he doesn't tell anyone his old name, almost forgetting it himself. ~CONTACTS~

Fixer: Zack
Connections: 5
Loyalty: 2
Zack was the one who picked Shrike back off his feet after he was framed by his former employers.  Or rather, he "suggested" that Shrike become a Shadowrunner due to his skills, offering a new life if he were to accept.  With little choice Shrike did, and despite some mistrust between them there's no denying Shrike would probably be rotting in a cell or dead in a ditch if not for Zack.  While he carries no debt thanks to handing over what money he had held on to, Shrike prefers to stick with Zack as his fixer as why change what's not broken?  Zack has numerous connections after all and while the trust between them could be better, it's no worse than starting all over with someone else.

Decker: Ruby
Connections: 2
Loyalty: 5
A friend of Shrike's since before he was framed and lost his prior life, and indeed the only he has managed to hold on to in his new life in the shadows.  The story of Shrike meeting Ruby is interesting: he met her when she attempted to, unsuccessfully, hack into his corp-issued Cyberdeck.  As he always runs his Sentry agent he already had eyes on her before she even started her hack, tracing her in the real world to a nearby alley.  What he found surprised him: a starving homeless girl who couldn't be more than 13 years old, working on a cyberdeck built from what looked to be scrap dug out of a dumpster.  She was near-frantically stealing the bank information of anyone who passed by, then transferring a single nuyen from each account.  Not enough to draw attention, just enough for her to continue surviving.  Acknowledging her natural talent and pitying her desperate situation, he helped her get off her feet and for a period of time let her live with him, turning a blind eye to her hacking adventures.  Fortunately, she moved out months before Shrike was framed.  Now it's rare the two meet in person, but they maintain contact over the Matrix as close friends.

Corporate Security Spider: Michael Adams
Connections:: 3
Loyalty: 1
Shrike doesn't trust Michael, and he's not sure Michael trusts him either.  Michael was a fellow spider Shrike knew over the Matrix from while he still worked his former job as a spider himself. After he was framed Michael claimed that he believed Shrike's claims of innocence.  The two have never met in person, if they had Shrike would have severed all connections.  As it is, he keeps Michael at arm's length, though so far Michael hasn't attempted to trace Shrike's location and turn him in.  Still, sometimes Shrike needs to know information about a corporate security system neither Zack nor Ruby can get him.  It's at those times he contacts Michael, albeit through several layers of encryption and a heavily bounced connection.

I'm not a newbie (been playing Shadowrun since 2nd ed) but that said I haven't been able to play Shadowrun for about 5 years my current Table Top group is all about the slaying of dragons in dungeons.

At any rate, my first concept is a decker.  He's a former security decker for Horizon.  Generally speaking he's pretty good at what he does, but he's new to the Shadows so he lacks experience working outside the law.  I did a short story intro for him for another PBP game here but I didn't make the cut.
Henry Rosenburg (or rather Jonathan  Erikson now) eyed the mapsoft display hovering in his AR vision nervously as the suborbital gained altitude over the ocean leaving LAX,  the city of angels, and indeed his entire life behind him…  He watched the minutes and seconds count down as he waited for the plane to enter international airspace before turning north towards Seattle.   He’d been preparing for this moment for months, over a year actually, ever since he found that hidden piece of code in the latest Horizon adsofts.  He had been careful, never leaving a trace as he duplicated the high security files, subtly funneling money into an account up in Vancouver and meeting in the virtual equivalent of dark alleys and dingy bars with some of the hottest info-warriors on the planet.  They had provided him with everything he needed to start a new life in the shadows, a freshly minted SIN, contacts in Seattle, and a fat stack of nuyen to get him started…

Even Horizon had helped him out without realizing it, transferring him into the matrix support unit of the physical security division when he asked to even though a lot of his co-workers saw it as a demotion.  Horizon had given him his wires, and trained him how to shoot and avoid being shot.  He was as ready for this as he could be, as ready as anyone could be, and it was almost time…
As the minutes counted down into seconds, his palms began to sweat and an acrid taste formed in the back of his throat.  There was no going back after this.  Horizon would geek him on sight, assuming they didn’t fry his brain and just reprogram him.  Taking a deep breath and downing the scotch he had ordered in a single gulp he stood up and walked to the rest room.

Staring at himself in the mirror Henry (Jonathan DAMNIT!) pulled a cheap plastic comlink from his inside coat pocket.  It wasn’t his real rig, and for this it wasn’t the hardware that mattered, only what was on it.  He stared at the blinking icon in his AR display and worked up the courage to activate it… He could still turn back now… It wasn’t too late.  His boss thought Henry was on vacation to Hawaii, a couple weeks downtime is all.  He could smash this comlink right now, lie low in Seattle for a couple weeks, order some cheap souvenirs off the matrix and go back to work like nothing happened.

No, he couldn’t do that!  This drek was fragging dangerous, and people needed to know about it.  It would slag Horizons rep once it hit the trids, at least the channels they didn’t control, but most of all it would render the whole thing useless once it hit the pirate sites.  It’d mean years of R&D down the drain, but frag it, it probably wouldn’t even affect their bottom line.

Taking a deep breath Jonathan hit the upload link…  He stopped breathing while he watched the file upload… It was done.  Pulling the battery out of the link he smashed it against the edge of the counter.  He was free, Horizon just got one hell of a black eye, and…  and… the acrid ball in his stomach suddenly came up with a vengeance and Jonathan puked his guts up into the toilet.
My second idea is a skill based street sam (basically the old Merc archtype).  He is an immigrant from Mongolia who came to Seattle out of a (somewhat missplaced) desire to follow the American Dream.  He brought his whole family over illegaly, smuggled in a container ship out of Macao, and is in neck deep with the Triad's, SINless, and with no markatable skills other than what he learned as a member of a nomadic tribe on the Chinese mainland.

Since a lot of full or part-time Deckers are being planned, I'll switch gears (you'll see the joke in a second) to a vehicle specialist. Can't make the shadowrun from the city bus line can we?

Ok here's my shot for a spot in this game. It's a little long, bare with me.
Runner Name: The Frenchman
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Metatype: Human

~FICTION~
He suddenly stood up on his bed, pulling with him the tubes that connected his nose and left arm to various cannisters and machineries. His artificial grayish green eyes opened up wide and he let go a scream, a mix of fear, pain, and surprise. Though of usually light complexion, he was paler than normal, his mid-length dark brown hair wet with sweat from a fever and terrifying nightmares. His toned and defined shirtless body was only covered with bandages running across his chest.
- "NON!" he screamed
- "Easy Pal, easy. Welcome to the world of the living." Said another man, in a deep comforting voice.
He felt a pair of strong hands on his shoulders, carefully pushing him back onto the bed; the humid cover perfectly cushioning his frame, sign he had been there for a while already.
His cybereyes could have focused instantly but he didn't thing about turning on any system and he could only distinguish the features of the deep voiced man. A dark form appeared before him, and something set upon his noise and mouth, perfectly fitting.
- "Here, you need some more rest, you'll soon be back to shape." Said the other man.
A few breaths in and consciousness escaped him. Everything went black, again.

***

He slowly opened his eyes and they auto-focused. The ceiling's light was dimmed down, and he could hear a regular beeping on top of the soft buzz of machineries. He heard a door opening and turned his head toward the extra light that appeared in his field of vision and saw an imposing shadow but unable to distinguish the man's features.
- "Well, well, well. Our Frenchman is awake."
- "Ou suis-je? He said in a rather weak voice."
- "Oh Boy! Recognizing French doesn't mean I can speak it Frenchman. Do you speak any English?"
- "Je crois... I mean, I guess, I understood you.... where am I?"
- "Welcome to Dr. Henry's private clinical facilities, Frenchman. The man said joyfully as he approached close to the bed. I'm Dr. Henry"
This time he could finally see that Dr. Henry. A bulky black man with a more prominent belly. He wasn't really dressed like what he would expect from a doctor but after all the place didn't look much like a regular hospital room either.
- "What happened? ... what am I doing here? and why you keep calling me Frenchman?"
- "Whao, that's a lot, let's start with the easy part. Frenchman is because I don't know your name, and you kept mumbling in what I recognize as being French during your time asleep, which has been quite a while now... so what's your name?"
- "I am.... I ... I don't know... " He seemed concerned and looked at the doctor with a very worried look.
- "The trauma may have cause a temporary amnesia, it should come back with time."
- "Trauma?"
- "Nasty wound, you barely made it alive, you know." Dr. Henry said pointing at the bandages on the Frenchman's chest.
"The bullet was about two millimeters away from your heart, and you lost a lot of blood. Without that treated skin you've got you'd be dead for sure! A friend of mine found you on a backstreet a few blocks from here."
- "Here. Where is here? Where am I?"
- "No memories at all? "
- "It's all black... the only picture in my head is this room. And..."
- "And?"
- "I'm not sure... surgery room... lighter than here... it's more like feelings... struggle, fear..."
- "Well from what my scan showed me you were under the knife more than once, light cyber, most notably your jack and a datalock I noticed, and some fancy pair of eyes, maybe some bioware enhancements too other than that Orthoskin. Your subconscious may just be remembering those evens...You've been out for two weeks now. You need to take it slowly, stress won't help you here. As for your question, here is my own little private clinic. So don't worry, don't know what got you here, but cops ain't coming to ask unwanted question. Here is Seattle."
The Doctor was telling the truth, he could smell it. Olfactory Booster certainly. The same two questions kept pounding in his head. Who was he? What had happened?

***

The Frenchman looked at his reflection in the mirror. His beard had grown thick for his time spent in Dr. Henry's clinic. His skin had regain some color. The wound on his chest had almost closed up now; pretty quickly according to the Doc. He ran a finger over it; just as his life could have ended, he felt like being born again. It had been almost a month now since he got shot and still no memory of his life before that. It was scary. He took a deep breath, still looking at himself, his arms holding and supporting him on each side of the sink. He stood there, silently, his mind trying to make sense of the blackness inside.
Yet he was healed now, at least physically, and the doctor had given the green light to get out. He owed Dr. Henry a lot. Not only for keeping him alive, but for the time he had spent in his clinic. And he had nothing to pay him back... his only possession a key card, that looked like a locker keypass. No clue to where the locker was either...
That could however be the only clue he may get from his life before getting shot, he had to find it. The report the doc gave him of the cyber and bioware modifications his body had sustained was scarying him. Some would allow him to be a good courier, like the datajack and lock, enhanced muscles, or synaptic boosters. But the extand of some modifications and wares just didn't make sense, for this job at least... thinking of it, some would be great additions for job like... assassination?
He watched his reflection, he wasn't sure he liked what he saw or what he could see rather.
- "I brought you some street clothes." Dr. Henry said as he interrupted the silence, entering the small room.
The Frenchman wasn't surprised though, he knew the doc was coming. He had smelled him...

- "Thanks. For everything, I owe you a lot. I wish I could pay you back."
- "Don't worry about the money. I'm sure with all the skills you have I'll find some useful favor to ask you one day. Plus just refer me to your kind when they'll need some care or surgeries."
- "My kind? what do you mean?"
- "You got no SIN, Frenchman. Yet your superfit with enhancements that'd make some sammies envious. There's no doubt, you belong to the shadows. And if you didn't before, well maybe it's time for you to consider."
The Frenchman stayed silent, still deep in his though, then spoke up.
- "Well, how about I keep that in mind, for now I need to know more about myself, I'll look for that locker, it may contain information about me."
- "Sure thing Friend, just keep in touch..."

***

There it was. Locker 2632, King Street Station. His still bearded face partly hidden under the hood of the sweater he was wearing, the Frenchman could feel his heart beat accelerate. It only took him a couple days to find the location of the locker and he found out that he had his way with people. Even wearing old street clothes. Somehow he felt he'd rather be wearing a suit or something much more fancy than the very casual attire he was now wearing. Was that because that's what he used to always wear? or because he never could wear it and spend his life envious of those who were? Memories would disappear, habits wouldn't, good and bad.
There he was in front of the locker. With both hands inside the pockets of his hoodie, he was fondling with the keycard inside his left pocket. People were walking around him, living their own life. Commuting, traveling, escaping, nobody was really paying him any attention. He swiped the key through the old lock and the small door opened. The space was only filled with a shoebox. Should he open it now? what if the content was just too overwhelming? or what if no one should see what's inside? The Frenchman grabbed the box and left the station.
Less than five minutes later passed a back alley, he stopped, a gun pointed at his face. And somehow, he wasn't afraid, not even worried. He had smelled the two others circling him from behind already. Punks. That's all they were. And he wasn't worried because he knew exactly what to do.
- "Give me your money, and that box!" Shouted the punk with the gun. A young ork, his leather jacket carrying the emblem of a gang he didn't know or remembered.
Muscle memory took over consciousness. His right foot pumped a strong kick in the kid's knee as his left hand, still carrying the shoebox slammed the light pistol to take it out of alignment with his face. Without waiting for the ork to fall or react he bashed at his target, sending a strong punch in the ribs followed immediately by a side hook on the ork's left temple. His assailant was out before he could even realize he'd been attacked. Yet the Frenchman, didn't stop. He used the momentum of his side punch to rotate toward the two behind him. They were humans of native american decent, also wearing a leather jacket but apparently just armed with clubs. They raised their weapon and launched at the French...

Removing the dust off the shoebox, the Frenchman gave a last look at the punks that tried to mug him. Two were out while the other was rolling on the ground with barely enough strength and breath left to cry out his pain. It was more a like mumble. It had been an easy fight, it shouldn't have been. His fighting skills were way above average, not only he just proved it, but somehow he also knew it, even before the fight had started. Memories and knowledge, quite different.
He hushed his way back to the coffin he had been renting for the week.

He needed to take a deep breath before opening the box. Not sure what he would find in it, maybe answers, maybe disappointment. He popped the lid open. A pistol in it's holster, some ammos, a credstick and commlink. And most interestingly, an ID. Which he picked up first. It looked pretty real, his picture displayed along some data lines and electronics chips for more information. But more importantly a name: Remy LeBeau.
He stared at it for some time, whether real or not he had a name. He glanced at the other items. He grabbed the gun. And muscle memory and coordination kicked in, along the with the smartlink. He rolled the gun, charged it, pointed it, rolled it back like he had done that all his life. He knew it was just a combination of his enhanced agility, both fine and gross motor skills, but together it was deadly. Who was he? What was he?
He emptied the box on the bed and looked inside hoping for more clues, but none were found. He thought about what Dr. Henry had said. He was but a shadow of himself... a Shadow, maybe that's were he belonged, in that shadowy world of intrigues, action and betrayals. He'll be the Frenchman, Shadowrunner.

~BACKGROUND~
Four months since waking up in this street clinic, The Frenchman still doesn't remember much of his past. But he has found a life he's striving in. One of risk, vices, and high stake adventures. How he got those expensive enhancements he doesn't know but his aptitudes with a gun are exceptional and he has managed to put it to good use, landing a few runs that paid him enough to enhance his lifestyle to a more natural state. The Frenchman turned out to be a socialite who like women, drinks, and the occasional recreational drug and chip. And he has abused of all since his rebirth. But he knows why. Many like to forget, all he want is to remember; but he is afraid, afraid of who he was. He knows he has the skills of a cold-blooded killer. Maybe the ones who left him dead had a good reason.
