Hey guys! so I wanted to offer my services as a GM, DM ST or what have you. unfortunately I have not DMed a SR game yet. I have a fairly good amount of experience DMing other games somewhat similar to SR though and I have most of the rules on lock and just need a better grasp on lore world wise. I am telling you all this because, if you feel you do not wish to play with  a new GM, that is COMPLETELY understandable. I figured a fun and easy way I could do a SR game while still just sliding into it would be to do a horror type. either a movie sci-fi type horror, or a "I am Dr. stienner" (with pink rubber gloves) type horror. the Johnsons will be there as best I can portray, jobs will be given and they will get harder and pay more as things build up to the -potential- explosion with the drek hitting the fan, hard. I am not thinking this will be a long game. maybe a few sessions if things go smoothly depending on how much fun the players have with it. and if it goes well and the group stays together I may move on to more traditional SR. as for characters you would -not- have to make new ones ifr you did not wish.
I would like for anyone interested to PM me with an idea, and which horror type run they would like to be part of. sci-fi horror would involve either Aliens, Zombies, and or rampaging wendigos (>:3). the Dr. Stienner type would be more SR like I think, if only slightly and would probable be slightly more railroaded than the other. so, if you are still interested PM me which of these or all that you would like to have implemented.

now chargen. I suggest everyone interested Google Chummer  a program that makes building SR characters immeasurably easier as well as posting the sheets online.
we will use karmagen, there will be more than the normal combat in this game, either lethal or not. I am thinking 1k karma gen 1 initiation allowed for awakened characters. normal chargen rules apply. no free contacts (these WILL be used) or knowledge skills. WAR!, Arsenal, Runners Companion, Unwired, Augmentation, way of the adept, Street Magic, Digital Grimoire, and Core rules book 4E are allowed. your characters have been about a year + in the shadows and have some experience. (though if you want to play a prodigy child by all means, impress me :3) good and thought out back stories with semi thought out contacts WILL BE REWARDED either with a piece of gear otherwise unattainable (the cost will not be changed) or an extra initiation at charagen. or somehow in game. as people get into the idea I will eventually post session times that can be discussed in this thread.

the setting is not set, but I was feeling either having it in Russia, Japan, or UCAS, or a mixture throughout. this was a spur of the moment idea that I have been polishing for a day but I like the ideas that are coming together. if you have any questions post them here. I am on throughout the day either via phone or computer and will probably respond sooner rather than later.

Characters and players.
Dragonfire-Drain- the mind controlling mage.
Martinchaen-Dante- (no not that Dante, silly) B&E military specialist, suffering from amnesia,
Brimstone14- Spectre-ex corp spec ops, longing for revenge on his once employer
Cold iron- Kanabo. oni wheelman and yakuza muscle man
Doubleaction-Crystal- the adept troll Indian on a spirit quest
two B&E guys, nice, actually works well for most of what I have planned. do realize you will be facing some top of the line opposition eventually, I hope to do at least one mission per session. and advance at a semi fast pace. I hope at least one of you has a matrix contact :3.
anyone seeing this, we are full I apologize but we have seven at the moment. If you pm me I will let you know if someone drops.

Hi there. Noticed you posted on my other thread and just wanted to drop a line. I would be down to do a horror themed campaign. Like I mentioned in my other post, I'm new to Shadowrun pen/paper, but would be down for a horror style game. I'm a huge H.P. Lovecraft and Clive Barker fan, so would be interested to see a horror theme in Shadowrun. I haven't used the karmagen before, so I'd have to look into that and come up with a character that might fit. Let me know if you wouldn't mind a new runner in the group and I'll start getting my character together. Have a good one.

old and new are accepted. as stated in my post the easier way would be to download chummer, its a rather small file and will calculate the karma and or BP values for you. tell you how much you have left and where you have put it in your stats.

Cool. I downloaded chummer. Haven't read through WAR and way of the adept yet, so that's next on my list.

Im Interested. Would like to see how you will tie it into shadowruning. I think working with the undead in its many forms would be easiest to pull of in shadowrun as we already have spirits, zombies, the various HMHV creatures, and para critters like ghost gators. There are also e-ghost to think about as well.

seems we have plenty of people interested enough lol. the sooner everyone gets chars in, gets set on a time, and date the sooner we can start. I think we will start in UCAS with visits to Russia for reasons to be known. I like to keep things open ended so I will have a plot outline set up and the like. if things go well, I will keep it that way, if things don't I may reign in on it a bit. yes I am sure someone will wind up doing something I never thought about and was totally unprepared for, but in honesty I enjoy some moments like this. gives me a challenge to be creative hehe.

Here's my character. I'm open to suggestions for editing, I'm a newbie to the pen/paper. Basically Dwarf Mage. I don't mind taking another archetype if someone wants to be a mage and we're light on another area.

I'm available M-F after 5:30 pm PST. Weekends will be by availability, but I can always plan around our game.

== Description ==
David is a Dwarf Mage. His overall personality is a bit hard to deal with sometimes, but that's just because he knows what he's good at and likes to do it. His nature can lead him to be argumentative sometimes.

== Background ==
David "Drain" Blaze was born in Los Angeles, California. He was the child of a Japanese and Hawaiian Father and an Irish and Russian mother. They had moved to California to pursue the American dream when they were young, but only found the hardships associated with the lower classes of society. When David was born, his mother died from complications. David's father tried his best to raise him while working full time, however, the loss of his wife proved to be too much to bear. David's father abandoned David at the steps of the "Ladies of Theresa", a local Eagle Rock parish. The nuns were only too aware of the biases toward metahumans and took David in to protect him from the harsh realities of the world.

At an early age, David showed a propensity for magic. When he was in elementary school, he caused a classmate to slip and break his collar bone by willing a slippery sheet of ice below the student's feet. This knack for magic caught the eye of a local magnet school for metahumans. The "Eagle Rock School for the Gifted" took David in and helped him to hone his skills. The nuns decided that this would be a fitting environment, as they were afraid that if left with other children, David would eventually draw unwanted attention to himself. The school provided room and board and drove David to study magic and his potential.

David pursued the Academic route of magic even into college. While Attending Occidental College, in order to remain close to the magical community that he had grown into, David studied the magical arts. He found that despite his lacking in physical or athletic prowess, his grasp of magic and the bending of nature to his will increased exponentially. One day while studying in the library, a few of the more athletically gifted students began to push David around. He eventually was pushed into a book cabinet, which fell on him and pinned down his legs.

Bloodied and battered, David reflexively lashed out against his assailants. In a moment of panic, David thought about the students beating each other to a pulp. David sat in shock as the students turned toward each other and began to unleash a fury of blows against one another. By the time David managed to regain his composure, the students had inflicted serious wounds on each other. With this first introduction to the manipulative side of magic, David heard a voice inside. A voice that promised power, independence, strength, and protection. All he had to do was follow his own mind and will, regardless of who tried to push him around. All he had to do was let the spirit guide, and he would become more powerful than he could imagine. In his panicked state, all David could think was "show me".

The incident marked the beginning of a downward spiral for David. David was expelled from college, in fear that he may have a repeat offense. Without any parents to support him, David relied on the gratuity of friends. He couch surfed for months, until eventually a computer engineering friend, "Scarlet" gave David some information that would change his life forever. She had been running with a few "hackers" in her computer science classes. They had been messing with real minor things, changing grades for money in the school database, spoofing vending machines to supplement their energy drink addiction, and overall committing other low level petty theft.

One day, their cabal had been approached by a "Mr. Johnson", whom had heard of their exploits and wanted his wife's personal email and home data files hacked. He suspected she was cheating and wanted proof. After that job, there had been a steady flow of similar computer espionage jobs that the cabal had easily run through. Recently, a few of their "Mr. Johnsons" had been requesting some magic support. None of the hacker group had any talent with magic, but Scarlet figured that David could use the money.

Drawing from his academic understanding of magic, guidance from the Adversary, and the tips and tricks he's picked up in the Shadows, David has gained the nickname "Drain". Spells that would fry another mage to a crisp "Drain" throws at will. He's let go of his past, abandoned dreams of unearthing the deepest secrets of magic, and now walks in the shadows. No one will push him around again. No one will make him feel like he's worthless. He no longer will allow others to control his future. The soft boy that would be bullied in school is gone. All that is left is "Drain", follower of the Adversary

@dragonfire That's a mighty tall Dwarf, considering the average height for dwarves is just short of 4 feet ;) Like the backstory, though.

Not too proficient in magic, but I have recently gone over gear rules with a fine toothed comb, and I have two suggestions;

1. If you want a concealable firearm, a rating 1 ceramic mod won't cut it. Take a look at the rules for the Morrissey Élan (and the other Morrissey weapons for that matter) and Hi-C plastic rounds. These are undetectable by MAD scanners, and because the weapon is a hold-out you'll gain a -4 concealment modifier
2. You can save a whopping 200 nuyen by just getting the Basic software suite instead of the Basic+. Since your commlink is a Response 2 unit your System is "downgraded" to rating 2 as well, and as such you're limited to Rating 2 programs.

I'm available after 6pm Central every day except Tuesdays.

I've got an infiltrator type character I'd like to try. Primary focus on stealth skills and, if seen, using pistols while closing the distance to engage the enemy in close combat, who can also do some talking (generally around 10 dice for most CHA skills).

Started with the following concept and built from there:

== Concept ==
Former (military) professional with advanced weapons and combat training who has experienced sufficient trauma to induce partial amnesia and sudden onset flashbacks.

Naturally gifted with physical prowess, his already heightened dexterity and reflexes have been further enhanced by bioware the character is unaware he possesses. Fluent in at least 5 languages, he is also a charismatic person who can bluff or intimidate his way past chummers and company men alike.

Having no memory of events past the morning he woke up in an upscale apartment, his knowledge of megacorporations, organizations, and politics is almost completely non-existent, and he'll have to rely on the matrix browser agent he was provided with and his photographic memory in order to assemble a picture of recent events. With nothing to his name except a couple of suitcases full of high-end hardware and a single lead on who may know more about who he is and where he came from, he'll have to use every opportunity he can to uncover more information about his past.

[spoiler=Meet Dante]
== Background ==
From the personal journal of ...

"I woke up in this fancy apartment yesterday with a throbbing headache, my whole body seemingly on a razor's edge. The note on the table didn't explain much, either.

"Contact details for Mr. Johnson are enclosed. If you need something beyond what has been provided, the number for a decent fixer is on your commlink. Don't screw this up...

J."

Along with some military grade hardware and a few IDs in different names and nationalities, they'd left me with gear obviously intended for a very specific type of job. But for what purpose? And who is the J from the note?

I started this journal because I can't remember anything before waking up this morning, and I don't want to risk the same thing happening tomorrow.

Speaking of remembering; who the frakk am I? The note didn't mention me by name, so maybe I am the John Walker listed on my UCAS ID. Sometimes I think and speak in Russian, though, so Victor Valchenko out of the USSR is a real possibility too. Then again, maybe neither of those men are the real me...

I've gotta get outta here. Wherever the frakk here is, now that I think about it.

---

I went for a walk today. I couldn't stand sitting still any longer, and I'm not sure I trust whoever left me in that place. I haven't called Mr. Johnson yet, figure someone's gonna come calling if I don't give word some time soon. Bad mistake on their part if they did, given all the hardware they left me.

I'm tempted to just sit around and wait for them, whoever they are. Blow them all sky high when they walk through the door. I dunno...

---

Couldn't sleep. Climbed the roof of the building next door, didn't even need the climbing gear in my kit. Nice up there under the open sky, city lights glaring in the distance.

Read a poem about some fool named Dante while watching the nightlife. Good name, Dante. Think I'll use it for my own until I find out who I really am. Then again, maybe this is my Hell...

---

I feel like I'm constantly on edge. One of the drugs in the suitcases helped, though. I'm still fidgeting, but at least it doesn't feel like I've got frakkin' razor wire wrapped around my mind.

Also, I nearly killed some girl today.

Must have walked into the wrong neighbourhood, because it seemed like she was trying to lift my pockets. I can't believe how quickly I reacted; before I knew it I had the poor chummer in a neck lock and found myself squeezing the consciousnessout of her, second by agonizingly slow second. I must have passed out from whatever came next, though, because after all those images raced through my mind all I remember is waking up on top of her. At least she wasn't dead when I left her...

---

Screw it. I'm calling Mr. Johnson. He's my only lead, and if I sit around here any longer I will completely lose my mind."

== Description ==
The term "nondescript" is defined as "lacking distinctive or interesting features or characteristics". Anyone asked to identify the character, even after getting a good look at him, would be unlikely to be able to come up with anything more precise than that he was male, of average height and build, and had no distinguishing features whatsoever.

This is the type of person that reminds you of someone you know but whom you can't quite seem to place; he is the faceless man you see on your way to work every day during the morning commute; the one whose features you forget the minute he walks by you; someone you wouldn't even notice standing in the corner of a room unless he moved.

== Notes ==
Negative qualities:
Addiction:
The character's first memories are of waking up in an apartment; at this point he is suffering from the sideeffects of a concentrated mixture of gamma-scopolamine and novacoke. As such, he is burdened with a physical addiction to novacoke, several doses of which was conveniently provided in one of his suitcases.

Flashbacks:
As a result of his memory loss, the character experiences flashbacks if he participates in acts of premeditated murder, such as successful long-range assassinations, delivering a killing blow to an unaware opponent, or at any time when an enemy is killed in one-on-one combat where the character has had sufficient time to plan the kill (5+ combat turns of engaged melee combat with the same single enemy).

If an opponent is killed when the character is reacting to an attack or defending himself in an ongoing firefight, or in any combat situation where more than the character and his opponent is involved, flashbacks will be rare or non-existant.

@martinchaen: Thanks for the tips. I incorporated them.

@Raiden: East coast time night game works for me. I'm usually home by around 5:00 pm PST, so I'd be ready to go by around 8:30 pm EST.
