Can anybody point me to a good rundown of organizations in the 6th world like the thread about the Current metaplots?

A lot of the current Missions adventures make referneces to things like the Black Lodge, Apep, the Initiates of the New Dawn, etc, but I'm not familair with all of those groups off hand.  Trying to find out more about them has led me to see just how many acronyms and organization names I don't recognize once you get outside the big AAA megacorps and the major crime syndicates.

Well, in 4th edition, books like Spy Games and Conspiracy Theories are good for that kind of thing, but some of the best info is in older edition sources like Threats 1 & 2, and Loose Alliances.

Yeah, it's hard to track some of them down (Which is, well, kinda the point, secret and all!), but there are a few that are bigger players than others. Interestingly, they're all magic based. Off the top of my head:

The Black Lodge
Possibly once-connected to the Catholic Church, the Black Lodge are a group of magicians with a secret order, black robes, chanting in Latin, and are based in Europe. They're up to something but nobody really knows what. They have members in old UCAS and CAS aristocracy.

The Initiates of the New Dawn want to bring a glorious revolution where magic is in everyone's hands and the Awakened world is accepted as the new norm. They're much more public than most groupssince their agenda is, you know, magic for everybody.

I've never eally figured out what the Apep Consortium is doing.

The Dunklezhan Institute of Magic (DIMR) is doing Stuff and will probably be opened up some in Clutch of Dragons (Out soon!)

The Atlantean Foundation is a private group founded by a woman in Atlanta whose name escapes me, but is a false identity for an Immortal Elf. Her people have been searching for old magical artifacts, whichputs her head to head with bunches of other secret arcane groups.

The Immortal Elves (IEs), all have their own private agenda. The formations of Tir Tangaire and Tir na Nog were two of these, but both are a tad shakey these days.

The Great Dragons all have their agents.

The Smoking Mirror is the Aztechnolgy blood magic cult that wants to bring the Horrors back. They've taken some big hits over the past few years.

I'm forgetting a few. James will probably be along in a while to drop somemajor data on us. Chummer's a walking encyclopedia of Shaowrunology and I'm always damned impressed by him.

There's really quite a lot of them.

In Stranger Souls she negotiated with Roxy to get the Atlantean Foundation access to sites within Aztlan, BTW. That's ... important. To me, anyway.

Anyway, I'd help but I'm short on time right now. This is something you all might like about the IOND, though. A lot of material never made it into Conspiracy Theories, including the following. I actually kept putting off Roz and then time was up and it couldn't be added to the final product. So this is very much non-canon. Still, it's a working idea.

From the Who Do You Know In This Town? subchapter of DeeCee, from Conspiracy Theories.
Quote
ROZILYN HERNANDEZ
Professor Hernandez is a hugely influential person in DeeCee. She was the one who really made people stop and look at how DeeCee had embraced magicians and magic into its very heart, and the world didn’t end. She founded the Illuminate of the New Dawn, which is one of the largest independent fraternal organizations for magicians and their supporters in the world. The Illuminates engage in public advocacy and lobbying programs throughout the world, and especially in the UCAS, and she’s at the heart of it all. Meanwhile, she’s still a tenured professor of Sociology at Georgetown, and the chair of the New Century Party, which is often seen as synonymous with the IOND. However, there is a growing call for the party, which was founded by disgruntled Technocrats following the 2056 election scandal, to rejoin the Technocrats. Her 2057 running mate, Ramsay McMulkin, did just that. He eventually became the UCAS party chair, and then improbably became CAS President last year.

The more important issue directly affecting her, and applicable to our discussion is that after several decades, Hernandez is quietly looking for someone to succeed her as High Magus. The top suspect is Nicholas Grace. He’s been a senior member in the Inner Circle for decades, and has eyed the job for years. However, she may be looking for a younger, more pliant successor like Claudia Morgan. Morgan is a young, but dedicated acolyte who lives and breathes magic, but also has some impressive family connections in DeeCee.

> There are a half-dozen Sylvestrines, all professors at Georgetown or CUA, who are all in the IOND Inner Circle. There is a theory that she was already in the Black Lodge, but she “came to God” and eventually founded the IOND in response. Another takes that one step further and asserts that she was “deprogrammed” by the Templars. This is the best part. She was the face of the IOND, and recruited other Lodge members, but those Sylvestrines (Templars) control it behind the the scenes.

> Here’s a thought. She’s another one of those politicos nostalgic for the old USA, rules an international order of politically connected mages, and her old running mate is the damn Yankee carpetbagger who weaseled his way into the Manor House. There’s your New Revolution ringleader. I normally don’t mess with politicos, but I could make an exception in this case.

Initiates of the New Dawn are described in the magical groups area of the 3rd edition magic book. They are very political and push lots of laws that favor the awakend. They're also one of the larger magical groups in the UCAS, at least in 2060.

Hmmm. Is it the Illuminates of the New Dawn? That's what this wiki is calling them. I don't have my book here to check.

The New Revolution's failure might have taken some of the steam out of their engine.  But don't forget about Alamos 20,000, lads.  The Central Executive is pretty shaken up and they're on the run from the alphabet soup of UCAS federal law enforcement, but it's hard to take organizations like that truly out.

Napalming a whole town, knocking down the Sears Tower, wasting President Kyle Haeffner and a near coup, who know what those crazy fraggers are cooking up next, eh?

The Central Executive is now just the Doktor, who is busy in Europe (A Pegasus German-language plotline), and the Loon as far as anyone knows.

Anyway, the attack on New Horizons didn't kill that many people (I can't recall offhand though if the tally was retconned upwards). It's a global organization, and yes, it's still out there.

I got the impression of a really low-profile Universal Brotherhood 2.0 . . . but I couldn't swear to it. The bugs seem to be much more fragmented these days anyway.

Only good bug is a dead bug. Thor Shot them, nuke them, and THEN spray the area with KE IV and FAB III. Its the only way to be sure.
