>>>>>[@Miner: Well, a lot of other 'runners I've met tend to be a certain level of... detached, and there's the 'don't want to pry' thing that was mentioned.  That might have something to do with it.  I've run into something similar, and one of the things I've noticed is not to take it too hard.

On another topic... I should probably have given some more info about myself when asking about fixers or jobs.  I'm a Mystic Adept, focusing mostly on more subtle magic than blasting people- I've got guns for direct combat, after all, so my spells and adept abilities are more about boosting reflexes, protection or assessing threats than they are about direct damage.  I can act as a secondary face if need be, likewise for summoning spirits, but if someone else in the team has more skill in one of those areas, I'm fine with letting them take point.  I've taken part in a few runs in Hong Kong- several bodyguard jobs, one extraction, and a... the technical term is 'poisoning the well'.  For those who haven't run there, it's a type of run that's pretty specific, and basically involves damaging the target's face and their relationships with their contacts, both of which they take pretty seriously.]<<<<<

>>>>[Minerfox, I didn't even know you were on here, actually.  That and I've been busy with my own drek lately to even have time to say hoi.  So, hoi!

For those who wanted to keep up with what's going down over here, Dusty arrived two days ago.  I've decided to have her play everything quiet with her t-bird right now, I don't need the fragging officials knowing we've got one or else we'll have drekheads watching our every move.  Instead, I've got her wandering around the merc bars, flirting with those that were around the fracas.  I'm hoping that those dunderheads will spill something to her because I know for certain they won't spill to me.  All those blasted fraggers ever want to talk about around me are the Euro Wars and no matter how much I tell them I don't talk about my past in depth, they just don't get it.  As for our tech talker, I'm not sure.  He's been out for a bit now but his vitals are showing good and one of his sprites took over one of Dusty's drones yesterday to tell us he was fine, so I'm guessing he's just having a bit of a hard time finding the vid.  IF anyone can do it, though, I trust him to.]<<<<

Finally found the rightful owner of this little erroneously delivered package I mentioned. Always nice when someone tries to shoot the messenger - well, nice for the ghouls I guess. There's one less albino runner in chi-town now I suppose.]<<<<

>>>>>[Nightmare, long time no see, last time I saw you I think it was somewhere over in Europe if I remember correctly. I don't exactly remember because that shit felt like forever ago.

Funny you guys get asked about "war stories" a lot. I'm not the one to speak about my past to people but if their persistent I'll give them one story. It's usually the one where at the end they go "That's so fragged up! Are they all like that?" and I always tell them yes. The sad thing is that all my stories are fragged up. War is not as romantic as these guys see in the trids. It's all fragged up no matter which way you try to spin it.

Damnit, now I need a drink and guys night out is tomorrow and I don't really want to go out and fetch any booze. Looks like I'll have to live with it for the moment.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ If you want war stories, I have some you can have.  But they won't be pretty, as I've spent most of my time in hellholes as the Yucatan, Lagos or Chicago.  And some of those stories are really not for telling, except maybe to a shrink.  Seeing someone being eaten by a bug in Chicago just barely makes the top ten. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Speaking of 'war stories', for the record, and from what my dragons have been able to find out:
  • Cereal Killers, once numbering thirty-nine, are now down to six bastards who are very wisely lying low in a network-nearly-dead-zone in Puyallup, completely devoid of electronics - with good reason.  Kill tally: Reality Hackers 8, Midwest Pirate's Guild 12, Some Dragonish Guy 6, Various Other Seattle Denizens 7.
  • Reality Hackers, previously calling forty-six individuals members, technically number twelve - but I doubt the four who are mobile are gonna enjoy taking care of the other brain-burned eight for the remainder of their lives.  Maybe the Choson Ring will do it for them, but I doubt it.  Kill Tally: Cereal Killers 9, MPG 6, Some Dragonish Guy 6, VOSD 13.
  • Midwest Pirate's Guild, who used to enjoy a membership of one hundred thirty-five, took the most severe hit numerically, but the least impact percentwise - forty-five people by the time they backed off, due to Some Dragonish Guy ripping his way into their virtual HQ in the Noose (and certain supported drones doing the same physically) and told them they could either cut their losses and not try to set up a Seattle chapter after all, or else they could start looking up cemetary plots for themselves.  Kill Tally: Cereal Killers 3, Reality Hackers 9, Other Seattle (and Noose) Denizens 5.
Ninety-six people in Seattle were killed, two hundred eighty-eight injured, before this ended.  And I swear to god if it happens again, I will burn each and everyone one of their houses down around their heads, and do DNA tests on the ashes to make sure they are fraggin' well dead.
I sure as hell hope I've made my point, so ka? ]<<<<<

>>>>[Was it Europe we last saw each other, MinerFox?  I can't remember anymore.  I've been in so many warzones over the years that things just run together nowadays.  And you are so right about war not being romantic.  Frag, the drek I've seen and done have made younger, less-experienced troops take their lives so they wouldn't dream of them anymore.  Me, I just notch it up as another days job and try not to talk about it.

As for the DW stuff, I got word that my tech talker is out of the Resonance though he supposedly is still babbling incoherently.  I'm not 100% sure because I'm stuck out in the field trying to get these fragging idiots that hired me to get their heads out of their hoops.  If it weren't for my squad and a few experienced soldiers on this unit, they'd never have gotten into the top ten like we currently are.  But I doubt we'll break into the top 5, unless this drek head idiots start actually taking and HOLDING the targets after my squad thins the herd.  I'll know more about the trid and such int he next few days...I hope.]<<<<

>>>>[Well, looks like I'll have more time to dig into what went down around here because the unit we were hired to work with ended up not protecting their commander during an elimination round.  Seems the opposition realized this and went for the killshot and that's all she wrote.  That's fine by me, because my squad was beginning to get antsy at how poor our employers ended up being and have been chomping at the bit to learn more about what we've been digging into.  But frag me, how that group ever thought they were going to make it out of that elimination round without protecting the commander is beyond me.  I know, I'll never work with them again if that's how they run things.

As for the trid, seems it's pretty badly fragged.  My tech talker and Chowda keep telling me to give them time to go over the code becuase they think together they can get it fixed.  Who am I to stop them?  At least it gives me time to send the rest of the team out to the original battle site to dig around and see if they can find something of use while I try to hunker down and hide from the impending meeting with Nikopoli and Scale.  Yes, I said Scale.  Dusty noticed him arrive the other day and go talk with the Iron Cav.  And I just got a call from my Weaver, my fixer, mentioning that both wanted to have a sit down with me - me and only me and that - at some point before I leave.  I drek you not, if it wasn't for the compensation Wyrm offered for the info, I'd have snuck out of this place just to avoid this meet.  Will keep you chummer in the loop as we find stuff.]
