Actually, that's been happening to me often lately. It seems to be a problem with Simple Machines.

There's a thread (or, rather, at least two threads) about it elsewhere;  apparently Catalyst is moving a bunch of stuff to new servers, which (a) explains the problem, and (b) hopefully means it'll resolve soon.
