Crazy question!  Since we've established that my character is afraid of deep water, could I have her phobia as a negative quality?  I don't see anything about it, but I'm thinking treat it like an uncommon mild allergy to be near deep water, so she takes penalties due to fear.

I'm almost done with my first draft of this char.  Whee!

Hmm. I don't think I can mark it up like an allergy. As one is a biological reaction and the other mental. I'll look into it.

Yeah, technically it would be a phobia, not an allergy, but it would have the same effect as mild/uncommon--she can usually avoid water (uncommon), and its effects are pretty much just that she's scared, so she's likely to screw up.  I guess technically it would be a house rule.  I'd like it because I'm having trouble balancing my BP, but I can shuffle so that it's not necessary.

Also: Are we doing any free contacts? I'm guessing no (I think it's standard for there not to be), but I want to check just in case ;)

What're you talking about? Phobia is a negative quality in the Runner's companion book.

Woot!  I don't have that book, though.  **goes poking around to see if she can find a description somewhere**

Phobia's/Mania's with the varying severeities:
Condition                          Value                    Description
Uncommon                           2                 The trigger is rare for the campaign. Examples: Being Alone (Autophobia), Strangers (Xenophobia), Gambling (Ludomania), Fires(Pyromania)

Common                               7                The trigger is common for the campaign. Examples: Darkness (Noctiphobia), Heights (Acrophobia), Counting (Arithmomania) , Stealing (Kleptomania)

Mild                                        3                The character suffers an uncomfortable need to interact with or avoid the trigger. Apply a –2 dice pool modifier to all tests made while a character is exposed to it.

Moderate                               8                 Exposure to the trigger is extremely distracting for the character. When in the presence of the trigger, apply a –4 dice pool modifier to all tests. Characters with a mania will crave exposure at least once per day. Characters with a phobia of this level will put themselves at risk to avoid it.

Severe                                   13               Exposure to the trigger is incapacitating. When in the presence of the trigger, the character must apply a –4 dice pool modifier to all tests. In addition, during exposure, the character must pass a Willpower + Intuition (3) Test in order to perform any action that does not deal directly with the trigger.
