Hello,

I have been very surprized to notice that their is no sound suppressed assault rifle in the core rules.

I have found many sound suppressed SMG, some pistols, but no AR.

Have I miss something in a supplement?

Arsenal has all sorts of weapon mods. A Sound Suppressor is a 3-slot mod that lets you turn any automatic weapon short of a Machine Gun into a silenced weapon.

And SR4A has a sound suppressor listed among the firearm accessories, and that will work on ARs.

Of course, it has to be replaced every 300 rounds, but it's cheap enough, or at least cheaper than the ammo you've just fired...

I still say that they ought to allow you to suppress larger weapons, since IRL there's a guy who made a suppressed FA grenade launcher...

Also the same guy who made an integrally suppressed shotgun.

Thanks for these answers but my main concern it on the availability....

the sound suppressor fit on almost any automatic weapon but has an availability of 12F that make it difficult to find.
When you look at the weapons that come equipped with a sound suppressor the availability is often less:
HK227X is 8R
Beretta Mod 70 is 5R
Ares Silvergun is 5R
etc....

With this kind of weapons "joe runner" can have a sound suppressed gun at a good price and easier to found that a sound suppressor alone....

Perhaps, but if you think about it there is no legitimate reason to fit an AR with a sound suppressor, and certainly not to manufacture an AR with an integral sound suppressor. An assault rifle is a weapon of war, not for security work (just look at the range ! no security force can accept the risk of stray bullets killing some innocent half a kilometer away). So any sound suppressor made for an AR is bound to be something hard to find, and illegal, since it almost screams "I want to murder someone very thoroughly".

Hey, the Ares Alpha is 12F too ! Sure, the AK-97 is only 4R, but that's because the market is overrun with the damn thing and it's almost a collectible :)

Besides, even at 12F your fixer can have a sound suppressor for you in 3 or 4 days for a measly extra 75Y

Actually, the AR is used by a lot of private security companies where security is paramount. Nuclear facilities, for instance, but any power company would be a good example. Military contractors. Police forces (yes, police forces today have assault rifles).

there certainly is a legitimate reason to use a sound suppressor, i can't get a sound filter installed in my ears yet, and who wants to have the neighbors calling the cops when you're having a good time doing target practice in the back yard?
Carpe Noctem (seize the night)
Carpe per Diem (seize the pay), Carpe Dentum (seize the teeth), Carpe Denim (seize the pants)
Carpe Panem (seize the bread/capital)

no, i won't "just get over it."

Some police forces, yes.

Laugh my ass off, but the SWAT team back home apparently has to go to the local Armed Forces Armory to ask for their weapons.

I am actually  :)  We have local police departments (not SWAT or anything, just local cops) equiped with FN P-90s.  OK, technically that is a SMG, but I don't believe that for a second.  Granted, we invented the thing, so it's easier to get it than other weapons, but still.  When I hear stories about police shooting I think the only way I felt safe when they start firing those is right behind them.

But a FN P-90 can actually be supressed as well (together with a subsonic round you can get a sound level of 33 dB).  So it is possible, but I don't think you can get that supressor together with the civilian version of the weapon.

I think most Police Forces in Canada and the US have at least AR-15s in the trunks of their squad cars now at the very least, as well as the shotgun in the front.

In the US they certainly do in big cities, after that bank robbery in LA where they had to raid a local gun store to match weapons with the robbers.

Depends on the department. Mine use either an AR or a M-4. I do know of some who have suplus M-14's. Some carry MP-5s but I would imagine those are more for urban areas. Rural, cornfield-type areas like mine sometimes require something with reach. Although, every deparment and jurisdiction has their own...opinions on having carbines and or rifles. Yes, after the North Hollywood shootout, many departments adopted the policy of a AR/Longrifle with a shotgun in the car. No one wanted that to happen to them.

But as to the usability of a suppressor will depend on the mission profile. Security, eh, maybe if there is a need to hide your position for whatever reason. Perhaps a few weapons with them but the majority regular. Military, especially special/covert operations, oh yeah. SWAT-style raids are kind of a waste as the dynamic entry tactics rely on a lot of noise and confusion when the operators enter.

Not all suppressors are used for nefarious purposes.

In some areas using a suppressor is just being neighborly. Sound pollution, y'know.
