I don't have the books in front of me, but this just occurred to me. It would make sense for the wealthy to buy genetic enhancements for their children before their children are born. Except...genetic enhancements cost Essence, and therefore damage Magic. The problem is that Awakened ability doesn't manifest itself until puberty. So wouldn't the possibility of damaging an as yet undetectable Awakened talent discourage the wealthy from genetically modifying their unborn children?

Of course, the chances of any given fetus having magical potential are very slim.

I think the chances of having magickid are so small it would probably not be considered.  I'm also afb, but I think the in utero procedures are stuff like hair and eye color noy any major gene tweaks.

They can be more major than that (there are a few Positive Qualities, in fact, that are meant to reflect that sort of thing), but yeah.  Minor stuff (hair color, eye color, that sort of thing) should be a lot more common than implanting a kid with Reakt or something.

I don't recall off the top of my head but, are there any examples of kids who awakened AFTER being augmented earlier in their lives?  For instance, at the age of 7 little Johnny was hit by a car and lost his leg, so being a good corporate daddy, Johnny's Dad got him a new cyber-leg.  7 or 8 years later little Johnny awakens into a mage.

Not that I am aware of on children but I believe Twist from the early novels awakened after having implants. Only a datajack but whatever.

The expense of getting a child a cyberlimb as they grow makes my bank account hurt.

Offtopic but kinda humorous /disturbing when I typed datajack one of my phone's suggested words was Satan's. @.@
