It says in the Runner's Companion "New Qualities" section that unaugmented character's can take this quality. Can anyone clarify what the means? I would assume this means cyberware or bioware but it goes on to stay it does not stack with any cyberware so that makes me think perhaps it is acceptable for a samurai  to take it.

Unaugmented means no Cyber/Bio/Magic or other enhancements

Basically no a Samurai can't take it, nor can most shadowrunners.

It's basically a quality that allows those rare unaugmented individuals to have a nice high reaction attribute in order to compete. However I've only seen 1 PC archtype take this quality. It really is very rare.

It would be more accurate to say that a street samurai can take it, but probably shouldn't because it won't stack with Wired Reflexes, Reaction Enhancer, Move by Wire, or Synaptic Boosters.

Magic? I interpreted the term "augmentation" as used in SR to mean Cyber and Bioware.

I'd agree with JoeNapalm on this one. Augmented tends to mean you paid Essence for it. There are spells that will increase the attributes, but they will also state whether or not they stack with other options.

Lightning Reflexes explicitly says it is "not cumulative with any other Reaction or Initiative enhancement, be it tech-
nological or magical."

It's pretty much a fluff ability. You can use it if you really want to be an unaugmented mundane and damn the ineffectiveness.

Nice catch, Umaro. By definition, though, I'd not consider Magical as Augmentation since it's not permanent.

Adepts?  Background count aside, their stuff is pretty danged permanent.

Rare is the time I disagree with Fastjack ;)

But seeing as Magical attribute bonuses (Spells, Physad powers, Spirit possession etc) all cap out at the Augmented maximums just like Cyber/Bio ware, doesn't this also imply that Magical powers are Augmentations?

To me it's another case of sloppy language in the book. Augmented Maximums refer to an attributes absolute maximum, but Augmentations specifically lists only Bioware and Cyberware (implants) Pg. 70 SR4A. They really should branch out the vocabulary a bit sometimes.

I just refer to attributes as natural cap and maximum cap to get rid of the confusion (as it has cropped up often at my table).
