Taking Slugger up on his invitation to talk about the Legion, Ghost directs the team to head down to Brighton Mall in Tacoma. His buddy there told him that there was a Blitz there, so it seemed like both a good place to hide out from any more corp teams and a great place to get lost if Steve had put a tail on them.
On the way, Ghost gives the cleaner-set types a quick history lesson about where they're headed, namely Route 66, the flavor of the month. It's the latest blitz club, the 2050s version of the 'rave parties' that have enjoyed sporadic popularity since they started back in the bleak innocence of the '90s. Toss together some portable mixing gear, a few hundred friends, and a public space, and you had an instant rave.
Blitz clubs work the same way, but with an important difference: they are conducted on private property, without the consent of the "host." Instead, the night's "club owner" hires enough muscle to secure the dance floor and defend it for a few hours. Trendy and dangerous, your average blitz is a who's who of street culture. Route 66 is one of the best of its kind. Tonight the blitz is going down at Brighton Mall.
By the time you get there at 2am. the party is in full swing. A troll stands at the door, wearing nothing but a loincloth and a challenging look, while nearby, people are gyrating convulsively across the dance floor where the food court used to be. A capacity crowd hangs out in the stores, but no one touches the merchandise: pilfering is against the blitz club code. Late as it is though, you know it won't be long before Knight Errant shows up to pull the plug. If you want to find Slugger or Breaker's girl, you'd better get moving.
