Is there a limit on giving out smitings? I'm reluctant to actually click on it, given it's 'forementioned impracticality for anything beyond amusement or general chastisement.

Don't worry about thr smiting it really doesn't mean anything. My smitings come from stealing a taco (not even a real one) and a bad pun I think. It's the positive rep that really means something, it means somebody appreciated what you had to say.
