There are Rules for Bionic Animals in Running Wild and Augmentations.
There are no Robo Animals .....Maybe because of the Renraku Catastrophe Christmas 2059 (IIRC) 100.000 People got slaughtered and tortured by Drones (and Robo Animals like the Medusa  ! ).Thats what Joe Wageslave would Tell You in 2072

Well i dont know about the Renraku Christmas Special, but it sounds fun! But you cant judge all robo-animals on the bad behavior of a few. Robo-Rhino Will Exist! What better companion for a large troll? A large troll that hates dwarves... We could call it the Midget Masher!
Or Dwarf Demolisher. Or Umpa-Loompa Poopa Scoopa!

I think your friend has watched Ace Ventura too many times, but it is possible and would give crazy rep for taking that thing around (everyone knows who they are and they might have even made the news with something that odd, especially if a run is attempted)... Crack open Arsenal and determine the proper sized vehicle to overhaul with Pimped Ride 2?, Ram Plate (err horn), and Walker Mode for starters.

Do the mods like they say, give it to him, and then calmly have the cops stopping him for half an hour every six blocks.

I ran into someone at DragonCon who had roughly the same attitude -- that it's Shadowrun, you're supposed to get screwed over and beat the crap out of people.  We were running through SRM 04-00 (Back in Business) together, and he winds up getting involved in a knock-down drag-out fight with Captain Jack Turner & Friends that the GM had to eventually hand-wave when it became clear he and his buddies couldn't manage to fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

My thought was that it's Shadowrun -- you're supposed to stick to the shadows, and pass unnoticed.  Shooting is fun, but keep it to select brief moments, when you spring it on people who aren't suspecting it.  The non-newb player / newb character mostly kept shoving his way to the forefront, so I let him fumble ahead, and take the damage to boot.

Y'know, I only ever shot three rounds in four games...

2 bloody points of Notoriety off that one, though.  Bought off by burning street cred -- that's another 2 points towards my Jackpoint membership...

Combat is fun and exciting, but if you have to shoot your gun on a shadowrun and it isn't wetwork you have already lost in a lot of ways. The goal should be to get in, get your macguffin and get the F out, all without anyone noticing you if at all possible. Stand up fights are for noobs and suckers.

Sorry ,but saying/writing this as a general Term is totally wrong ! (just as wrong as saying/writing: The Run is not over unless the Johnson doublecrosses You twice)
There may be Runs where this is true ,especially if the Johnson wants no Dead etc.
But sometimes Force and Violence and Death is necessary

When do you NEED to kill somebody outside of wetwork? Killing makes enemies and draws fire. Now if you are playing in a serial type setting where you never face consequences from past runs other than possibly notoriety killing is fine but once you start playing in a long campaign it makes no sense to start killing people

When do you NEED to kill somebody outside of wetwork?

Somebody sees You committing a crime
You have to protect Yourself
or somebody else
You have to make a Statement
or set an example
(btw I'm watching Snatch right now, lots of good examples why somebody  gets killed)

Just to make it clear
I don't consider killing somebody as very professional.I prefer the ....non-Final Solutions
some of my Chars are Pazifists (Level 1 only Level 2 is Impossible in the SR Setting ImO)
I do NOT say that its a good Solution (Killing someone)
What I don't like is the GENERAL wording:
if you have to shoot your gun on a shadowrun and it isn't wetwork you have already lost in a lot of ways.
It Limits Your ....Perspective (I hope that's the right word)

but once you start playing in a long campaign it makes no sense to start killing people
I think that strongly depends what kind of Shadowrun You're playing the Robocop kind or the CSI kind
