Wait, why wouldn't you want to work for Aztechnology?  Bloodzilla FTW!

My first (and favorite) runner was a former MCT company man. I'd have to still pick MCT if for no other reason than to say "Yeah, these guys are scum - not only can you find skeletons in their closet, but I can tell you how each and every one of them is organized."

Also, their security policy leaves very little to the imagination. You can only fail once with these guys, either running for or against.

1# Horizon: Would be the first to know all the celebrity gossip! Also the idea of the Consensus makes me feel all fuzzy in an odd Orwellian/Marxist way...  :o

2# Saeder-Krupp: May as well aim high. (And you know, a dragon boss!)

10# Fuchi/CrossApplied/Any other folded corp.

#1- Ares- I'm also a big fan of grade A bang-bang.

#10- Horizon- I know that The Big A is evil. but I'll take the evil I know over the evil I can only speculate on any day...
As night descends upon the city
The streets are cold, the lights go by
And in the stories of the people
A million faces, a million lies
They'll never say they feel what you feel
That they can see the world you see
And in their faces, their expressions
A million faces, a million lies... VNV "Chrome"

My Number 1 is a bit further upthread allready.
#10 - Horizon: Seems to be a bit too Goody Two Shoes to me. Thanks, but NO thanks. I'll pass.

It seems half of players seem to think Horizon is the front of an evil conspiracy, the other half seem to think they're a bunch of flower-love hippies, and no one seems to like them...

Maybe they should change their motto to "Horizon: at least we aren't Québécois."

(For the record, I like Horizon... they're a distinctively new & different take on a megacorp than what we've seen before, and personally I'll be disappointed if they turn out to be Yet Another Evil Conspiracy.)

#1 Shiawase: because of the shiawase decision... beeing part of the "first" extraterritorial corp ;)

#10 Aztechnology: because they are missing a "vision"

Although, to be fair, it could also read:  "Aztechnology: at least we aren't Québécois."  :P

I'm actually really surprised Horizon dumped to the bottom for so many people. I figured they would be looked upon with suspicion but not to such a level that people would rather work for Big A or MCT ahead of them.

That's the thing, we know what AZT and MCT are up to.  Horizon, that's a big mystery.  Mysteries are dangerous things.

Remember, the Universal Brotherhood were nice guys at one time, too...

It's not the company itself, it's the nature of power in a dystopian world. Corporations don't want to be evil, but being a Corporation in the Sixth World inherently leads to evil.

Evil Conspiracies are like Doritos, sure the AAA says they'll have just a couple, but next thing you know the bag is empty and you've got orange fingers.

Orange fingers of evil.

I think an important distinction to make -- among gamers, at least, and especially those with a D&D history -- is that corporations aren't evil, they're apathetic and greedy.  The end result may be the same (death, destruction, a callous disregard for the welfare of others, that sort of thing), but it's important to remember that corporations, and most of their employees, aren't capital-E D&D style evil.  They're just people who care about the bottom line more than they care about doing what's right.

Here's why I worry about Horizon:  They went in requesting AA-Status, and walked out with a seat on the Corporate Court as a AAA.

Now, it could just have been the CC recognizing the Corp as a major shark for it's wheels and deals during the chaos of Crash 2.0...  But is that all?

No, there is something sinister going on.  Are they Evil In A Suit?  Maybe.  Maybe they're something different.  Or maybe they just have incriminating evidence that could cost the Corporate Court major face.

Or maybe the CEO is just that charismatic.

That is an important distinction: the megacorps are not evil as such, just in it for the money. Even the "most evil" megacorp, Aztechnology, generally uses the nasty stuff like blood magic as a means towards greater profit rather than any grand plans for world domination. And on the flipside you have the megacorps many people consider "better" than most still dabbling in horrible, horrible things. (Like Ares with their experiments on insect spirits or NeoNet vivisecting technomancers... even Horizon has had their morally questionable brainwashing programs discussed.) Really, it seems like Evo is the only AAA that hasn't committed any horrible deeds that I remember.

But again, I have to say I'll be disappointed if it turns out that Horizon has some ::cue scary music:: dark secret behind it. The Universal Brotherhood was like The Sixth Sense of Shadowrun... it was powerful because it was the first big, dark twist. Currently Shadowrun is in danger of being like M. Night Shamalamadingdong, churning out "twists" like an assembly line. Honestly, if the developers want to shock Shadowrun fans, it will turn out that Horizon is an actual socially-responsible megacorp.

Or they could just continue to string us along, make it look like dark secrets, and we find out that, no, it's only a small division that's doing it.

Like CrashCart originally was.

That would leave us tearing our hair out trying to figure out what's really going on.
