When a data bomb goes off does it do 1d6 damage per rating, or the hits on those d6?

So a rating 2 data bomb will do 2-12 damage or up to 2 hits.

Which is it?

Thanxs,

Sincerely, spp

2-12.

That's why they're dangerous.  A high-rating databomb is a bastard to get rid of and will shred whatever poor digital construct's fingers are caught in the trap.

On the bright side, most data bombs are harmless until the system realizes that you're an intruder. "When a character hacks into a node ... she is actually circumventing normal authentication routines and setting up a fake account .... This account is almost never perfect, but the node accepts it as legitimate," (p. 65, Unwired). It doesn't take long to detect an intrusion, though. Even if patrolling IC doesn't spot you, system audits will catch you within a few Turns unless you create a "legitimate" account and cover your tracks well.

So does it do Matrix condition moniter damage?  Are Technomancers immune or take another type of damage?

Also if this fills your condition moniter is there overflow?  and do you suffer Dump Shock?

Thanx,

Quote from: SR4S pg 239  subheading Techinomancers and Condition Monitors
Since a technomancer's Living Persona is generated by his brain, technomancers do not have a separate Matrix Condition Monitor. Instead, they use their own Stun and Physical Condition Monitors...Matrix damage is treated as Stun damage to a technomancer.

In other words Data bomb goes boom techinomancer takes stun then it will overflow into physical until it causes death

Quote from: SR4S pg 237  subheading Dumpshock
Anyone who is dumped from the Matrix while in VR suffers a nasty system shock, called dumpshock

In other words if you were running VR and ended up disconnected for any reason other then a proper log off you suffer Dump shock

Instant kill, if not prepared!
But they can create some dirty bombs, too!

Thread Biofeedback and Pavlov options, then, because it does biofeedback, why not give it a Psychotropic rating as well....

... and "Assisting Operation" of a big sprite, too. And you have it.

i.e. a technomancer with RES 5 and a Data Bomb CF 5, including Pavlov and Biofeedback options (can all be bought from the start), is threading the CF to Rating 10, and has a 5+ sprite registered with the Assisting Operation task on the Data Bomb CF. Now we have a 15+ Data Bomb CF that creates Data Bombs.
Btw: A set up data bomb is not the program or CF, it is a product of that and do not use up processor power (like a text.doc isn't the Office Program). The Bio-node is powering the CF and the created data bomb can be set up and running on any node.

Geez... Databomb has almost scared me out of playing a technomancer ever again! Mundane hackers might pass-out... who cares... Technomancers die... um... wow. Good thing I have Defuse on my present technomancer in case the GM is reading this thread. (ducks)

Edit: To clarify, the thing that scares me the most is that databomb is not black IC... at least as far as I can figure... That means that anyone with AR is still vulnerable to the damage, unlike black IC which affects only VR users. A mundane hacker in AR that gets blown up by databomb is like, um... okay so my interface crashes, I can still hang with my homies. A technomancer is like, oh, um, I'm dead now. Time to re-roll another character....

Which is why you use sprites to open files and unencrypt.

A regular hacker in VR who takes a hit from a databomb of that size and make will:
1) get dumped when his persona crashes dealing 5 S or P (cold or hot)
2) take up to 5 S or P (again depending on cold or hot) from Biofeedback
3) Suffer Psychotropic effects which imprint a moderate phobia of the Matrix (which will impart a -4 penalty like being allergic to the 'Trix.)

Seems to me that a Hotsim hacker is basically as boned as a TM with that package (only he didn't get to thread his Defuse CF right before the bomb went off.)  Near death and brain broke.

Okay, so I guess my next technomancer will view sprites as expendable tools and not honorable ancient ancestors. lol!!!

Not expendable as much as just "Not you".  In an ideal world the R6 sprite rolls 12 dice to disarm and suceeds and does not go boom, but if he DOES go boom its a better you than me situation, the sprite just goes back to the resonance realm, the technomancer shoots blood out his ears and dies of brain bleed.
