It seems like there's been some renewed interest in riggers since Rigger 5 was announced recently. I'm all for that, as it's one of my favorite archetypes. My first Shadowrun character ever was a rigger back in 3rd edition. I'm curious to see what kind of advice I could pull together for riggers and players of all experience levels. Largely because I want to be able to play/build/GM them better myself.

So, what are the five things you think every rigger rigger should know (or do)? Can be combat tactics, character generation tips, role playing advice, best practices, best gear, common mistakes, overrated or underrated choices, whatever.

Having a high flying drone like a dalmatian  providing aerial recon for your ground vehicle can prevent you from getting caught  in ambush.

This is premised on the notion that to be a "rigger" requires having a control rig.

Every rigger should be able to:
-Be the ultimate wheelman in their vehicle of choice, or most vehicles they come across
-Be the ultimate recon character, viewing a scene from five or six different angles via drones or sneaking a bug into an air vent to check out secret meetings, or with another character slipping a microdrone on a mark to be tracked
-Provide covering fire for the team to retreat, preferably from on high, when the shit hits the fan
-Protect his own drones against enemy hackers, and be able to put an APDS sniper round in their hidey-hole
-Be the owner of a vehicle big enough to carry the team and launch drones

Usually a good sign a product is close to being released is when they start dropping peeks at cover art and other stuff on the tumblr for that specific item.

5 things a rigger should do/know about:
1-vehicles. Be able to drive them, and drive them in a way that you can maintain a tail on someone without them noticing and also get the fuck out of dodge and shake a tail or two yourself.
2-drones. Be able to pilot them, do recon with them and lay down the hurt with them. As part of this; sensors. Be able to upgrade, swapout and utilise to their fullest. Right tool for the right job.
3-airwaves. Your toys are no good if you can't talk to them. Be able to build and protect a secure wan so your drones don't turn against you. Know your RCC, know your software and know your enemy.
4-repairs. They're not cheap, so ether do them yourself; right tools again, or grab a good rating mechanic contact to do it for you.
5-know the roads. Local area knowledge is golden, mapsofts + GPS help, augs assist further. Don't sling a hard right to shake your tail only to end up on a dead-end Street for fuck's sake lol!

Block all those ads with a hosts file! No overhead when the server is a 404

There ought to be a way for riggers to take over unattended drones (i.e., drones on autopilot), perhaps even fight other riggers for control of a drone, without needing a cyberdeck on top of their command console.

Add mod: attack module. Increase attack rating. Load attack related software and have at it :-)
