Will the alternate chargen methods from RunFaster be legal for missions ?

It is listed as a  core rulebook so unless they make an exception it will be missions legal eventually.

Like Kincaid speculated, there's probably a whole host of things that will be marked as disallowed in Missions.  (See the Season 4 FAQ for a start, because a whole bunch of qualities were disallowed in Seasons 3 and 4 of Missions, and I speculate that most of that may stay the same.)  I have no idea how Bull will rule things, but I agree with Kincaid that probably a few other qualities will be disallowed because of the stated intention of having a low-power campaign (though at this point we probably have some 250-Karma characters roaming about).

Also remember we haven't seen the dead tree release, and none of it is Missions-legal until a month after that.

hope that helps!

To be completely honest, I don't know yet.  As Imveros noted, nothing is Missions legal till +30 days from Dead Tree release, so in that time I'll be looking at general opinions of the alt-chargen methods (along with the rest of the material), looking them over myself, and talking with the authors to see how these characters stack up to the core Chargen from SR5.  With as many characters as have been created and are being run now, I have to very carefully look at how new chargen methods balance against the originals before I decide to allow them in.

Yeah, I have that FAQ.

But SR4 used the BP-400 system, which doesn't exist in SR5 Core or in Run Faster.

So I was wondering what people thought.

Karma certainly seems like a good thing to allow if someone wants to use it.

I could see Sum-2-10 being allowed as it doesn't have the min-maxy feel quite as much as SR1-2-3 now that Humans have a reason to be anything other than E.  I like the idea of being able to have 2 of some same priority levels whether that be A's+E's or C*5 across the board.

Not having it yet I'm unsure on the Life Paths but they sound interesting for sure.

Thanks Bull,  I knew we had a while but given the changes from SR4 to SR5 creation (no more BP, moving back to Priority), I was curious how things were looking.

I'm kind of curious to see how my character will look by trying to create him over again using the 3 new methods.
So far the Sum-2-10 method grants him about 20-30 Karma extra which isn't a lot when your talking 800-1000 total.

Karma Buy is actually quite a bit weaker but that isn't surprising when you have several 5's & an 8 in your starting stats.

Very curious about the life paths.

Life Path...  I really have to look at, as that has the potential to be broken at first glance (Though I've only glanced briefly at it).
Karma Gen I think will make less powerful characters when you've got characters with several high-end skills/stats (5's and 6's as you note), but I think could make for more powerful "jack of all trades" characters who spread their points out a lot.

Overall, we'll have to see.  It'll be a math thing, ultimately.

Personally, I think the Sum to 10 method is the best for balance and the easiest way to build a Missions character.  Mostly because once you've assigned your priorities, everything else just follows the normal flow.  No chance of things being broken or unbalanced that way.  Someone might have two A priorities, but they're going to pay for it when they have a couple Ds and an E.

Eh, I would say straight up Karma is the most balanced. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of E Human, E Magic, AAC or ABB Characters if Sum to 10 becomes available. I agree on how easy it is though. Karma is difficult for even someone like me, who has made literally dozens of characters, and Life Modules is interesting, but probably unnecessarily complicated for Missions (although, it makes really interesting stories and characters).

That's true, we might see a disparity of non-mage humans running around.  I agree that the Life Modules are fantastic, especially because they offer the player an almost pre-written background story.  They just have to fill in the blanks, really.  But I don't know how balanced each of the options are and I think it wouldn't be hard for someone to abuse that imbalance.  Karma might be the most balanced, simply because it gives the player X points to play with, no matter what.  It is really hard to use for new players though.  Decisions, decisions.  I don't envy Bull right now.  :P

Sum-2-10 is not the most balanced as 8-bit said, Karma is.
But, Karma is much more complex & harder for a guest GM/Character to verify is accurate which is pretty important in Missions I'm thinking.
That said, Sum-2-10 is my Favorite as its very simple, just like Priority, but allows you to have Multiples of the same "Letter/Number"
Very important IMHO for when your trying to say, make a Troll w/ Edge that also has a lot of Cash, or attr, or Skills, or Magic.
Also useful at the other end of the spectrum where your trying to make a character that is "normal" in his Cash (D) but has a little Magic (D) as well, a guy just awakening, gifted in Attr/Skills but not Rich or Lucky.

My only problem with Sum-2-10 is not with Sum-2-10 at all.  Its with the Priority Chart.  I REALLY feel they should be equal jumps going from E to A and between the columns at least try to have a similar karma expense point.

But, really, even min/maxing your choices isn't saving you too much.  I looked at Karma & Sum methods already & both weren't THAT different from Priority.  I think I ended up 20+ Karma better by tweaking Sum-2-10 & around 100 Karma worse via Karma Build to create basically the same character.  Changing a dice pool by 1 isn't a make it or break it difference that would make me decline that option.

In SR1-2-3 you got that combo a lot.  But, with Edge in SR5 I think you'll be seeing people wanting that extra re-roll.
More importantly, if they did alter then they suffer the loss of 2 points to gain whatever they gain.  So there is some balance in it.

Oh sure, I don't disagree. Just saying that it does allow for some interesting combinations. Especially with the more expensive options (like Trolls; you try hardcapping Body and softcapping Strength with Karma, it's way too expensive). Is it pretty-well balanced? I think so. Just might get a few niche cases where you get someone who's got some weird min/maxed build.

Encouraging more non-magical humans?  Considering that's the most common person in the Sixth World, that sounds like a good idea to me.

I think we'll also see more E Human, E Resources mages, though.  If you can survive an adventure or two with a level 2 fake SIN and not much else, it's easy enough to get enough nuyen to set yourself up with the standard shadowrunning gear.

True, true. There's also the E Human, E Resources Technomancers.

It's just that the non-magical human with AAC or ABB gives a lot of effectiveness and efficiency over a broad or narrow focus. That's hard to pull off with just about any other combination (granted, you get Magic or whatever as a Mage or TM).
