So every time I look at the Echo: Program I can't help but cringe at the opportunity cost on it.  13+ Karma for one fixed program, yeah no thanks.  So I came up with this.

Echo: Programs
With this Echo a Technomancer is able to emulate Common and Hacking Programs.  He may emulate up to his Submersion rank in programs at one time.  In order to do so he must make a Software+Resonance test with a threshold of 1 for Common programs and 2 for Hacking programs with a Fading check equal to the threshold.  It does not take any effort to hold these emulated programs so there is no dice modifier to sustain them like a threaded complex form.

Opinions, comments?

Threshold is rather easy like that, so it's not as if it will take any effort from anyone with decent software. You only have 5.4% failure chances for those Hacking programs if you're at 6+6. Add three dice and you're below 2%. Fading also is rather easy with those values, so to be honest, the test and fading are largely irrelevant like this. In other words, the essence of your system translates to 'Submersion programs max at a time, nearly no risk involved'.

Myself I'd make the Echo more like Quickening, let you pay 1 karma for each Program you want around and then put a reasonable limit, such as Submersion, on how many you can have active at a time.
How am I not part of the forum?? O_O I am both active and angry!

Interesting idea.

I like the mechanics proposed, though I'd make the Fading meet the minimum threshold of 2. Perhaps make the Fading 2 and 4, keep the thresholds. Alternatively, make the thresholds 2 and 4 as well if a more challenging mechanism is desired.

Alternatively you could do some escalating tresholds. ie +2 for the next program, up to your submersion grade. Because as Chandra said, a treshold of 1 or 2 is trivial. You might as well have no dice rolling in that case.

In our group the technomancer havent submerged yet, so we havent looked too closely at his options yet. So at this point we are still going by RAW.

I was thinking raising it to 2 and 4. That makes it an average and hard test with fade tests equal to the threshold needed.

I am reluctant to include any more karma costs as TMs are already karma heavy.

I think something like this would be an excellent addition to my pile of Technomancer house rules.  I think I'll rip off your idea.  :)  And give you credit of course!
Feel free to keep any karma you earned illicitly, it's on us.

Most likely, but I think his suggestion is brilliant   :P He seems very smart and insightful  ::)

But back on topic. I guess no TM is really gonna take increased firewall then, if he could just use the program version because of the versatility?

They have the same reason to take it as they do now; there's only one program that boosts it.  Even RAW you can take the echo for the program instead (though there's no real reason to).  It's a crappy echo anyways...  It's technically necessary but, just really uninteresting.  In 4th it was like "Oh, cool, +1 to a single attribute...  Or the ability to sense electric auras including people."

The NeuroFilter echo though isn't a good choice unless you've already taken Resonance Program (Biofeedback Filter), which is twice as effective, and still want even more.

Jeeze.  It would almost sound stupid until you realize we're talking about an immortal elf clown sword fighting a dragon ghost in a mall.
