Let's not make repairs more costly than the GM suggested, neh? As a seriously gear dependent rigger, I strongly object to deviating from the 1% per box as per the previous version.
I have some questions which I'll post later, mostly related to drones since the rules are somewhat lackluster in SR5 still.
Once I get home I'll also post the character bio.
Thanks for organizing this, Elek!
EDIT:
1) I'd like you to post a little snippet about your character, like "alias, metatype, age, primary role, secondary role". That snippet will go into this post for later reference.
Alias: Moto
Metatype: Dwarf (Koborokuru, i.e. Japanese sub-type)
Age: 32
Primary Role: Rigger (wheelman, infiltration, and long range fire support)
Secondary Roles: Mechanic / EWAR Specialist / General Knowledge Wiz
2) Please offer your suggestions on a diceroller to use.
Orokos.com has been mentioned; I prefer this one as well.
3) I would like you as a collective and creative whole to decide whether your characters know each other and have worked with each other before. Please feel free to discuss it with each other. You can of course have your characters meet in-game, if you like, but why miss on an opportunity to make an engaging back-story? ;-)
I'm good either way; Moto is both a wheelman/rigger and software engineer, and runs an automotive/aeronautics repair/bodyshop in a nicer neighbourhood of Tacoma. It's entirely possible that he would have met some of the others either during a run, or online, or while doing work on their gear. He could also very well have been outside talent brought in when someone needed a heavily armed and armored transport option.
1) The game will be set in Default City Seattle in the Summer of 2075.
Yay! All of the backstory already centers on this, so that's perfect from where I'm sitting.
2) All SR5 books are in use.
There might be small house-rules here and there, but they are limited to such things as repair costs being 1% instead of 10%, or some gear having stats shifted a bit (I'm looking at Fineblades), so nothing drastic. The only single significant change I can state right away is that jammers (and Noise) affect Matrix connectivity as a whole, not just Wireless Bonuses.
I know that few people want to start a game without knowing all the houserules, so I'll try to write them all down. Again, there will be nothing drastic, just small stuff, usually in PCs favor. If you have a particular house rule you want to suggest (like technomancers having an ability to establish a direct connection through touch) - feel free to do so, we can discuss that.
First of all, unlike Triskavanski I would suggest making Technomancers vulnerable to jamming just like everyone else, but instead allow them to form PANs just like a device.
And I apologize in advance, because I have quite a few questions with regards to rigging
1. Will a drone's pilot program be able to benefit from a smartgun equipped weapon if it has a smartlink upgrade as part of it's sensor package? Suggestion: Can gain non-implanted benefits of a smartgun system (+1 to limits and dice pool using Take Aim, if wireless various free actions)
2. Same as above, but for a rigger with an implanted smartlink who's jumped into said droneSuggestion: Treat as implanted smartlink using normal smartgun equipped weapon
3. How do you want to handle progressive recoil with drones, as they are forced to take all Fire Weapon actions as Complex Actions, regardless of original action?Suggestion: Determine Progressive Recoil based on Fire Mode used as normal, even though actions are Complex (so a drone firing a single Semi-Auto shot that is normally a Simple Action wouldn't build progressive recoil)
4. Rigger-related attributesJumped-In Gunnery uses Logic as linked attribute; disputed by statement from Aaron a while back, but recently updated version of core has removed Agility from Gunnery all together (
source of confusion)
Jumped-In Sneaking uses Intuition as linked attribute (
source)
Suggestion: An alternative to attribute usage is to allow Jumped-In Riggers to use the Astral Attribute substitution list on page 314 of the core rulebook;
Agility -> Logic, Body -> Willpower, Reaction -> Intuition -> Strength -> Charisma
The first two are already mostly in use (though I have no idea why Sneaking while Jumped-In is Intuition, to be honest), so the big one would be Reaction; Moto would be a better driver while jumped in, and a much worse one when not. I'm really curious as to how this would work out, so if you're up for it I'd love to give this house rule a go.
5. Will you follow Aaron's reading that Rigger Command Consoles provide +1 to Vehicle and Matrix Actions in addition to the +2 bonus from Hot-Sim (
source)
Suggestion: I would allow it, both because Aaron says so and because it's a 150k+ investment

6. Just in case you aren't aware (I just recently discovered this rule myself), drones get Recoil Compensation equal to their BOD (hidden away on page 176, but YAY!).
Suggestion: None, just FYI in case you didn't know.
3) I have to state right away that my descriptions borrow heavily from Hollywood.
Fair enough, at least this way I'm aware ahead of time

Not my preference, but it's your game so I'll just roll with it.
And I think that's it.
