Hoi!

I've been flipping through the new supplement "Coyotes", which I can't help but recommend to everyone, and noticed one strange discrepancy:

All the sample Hosts from Coyotes have multiple copies of the same IC running, but the core book states that it's not possible.

Quote from: SR5, p. 247
The host can have up to its rating in IC programs running at once, and it can’t launch more than one of each type of IC program at once.

I like the approach of Coyotes more: it's all to easy to trick one copy of Patrol and managing 6 different IC programs is challenging for me as a GM. But core is core...

Any thoughts? Am I mistaken?

I've been thinking about this issue for a while myself, and was hoping someone else would reply to your question.

I'm starting a campaign Monday, and I'm going to say that a host CAN have more than one copy of a given IC running at once, per the setup of the Coyotes hosts.  That's my call as GM.  If someone really wanted to play rules lawyer with me, I'd say that the line you quoted specifically says that a host can't launch more than one of each type of IC at once (which is a useless factoid, since a host can only launch one IC program per Combat Turn regardless).  The core rulebook doesn't specifically say that a host can't have more than one copy of a type of IC running at once.

From a pure practicality standpoint, the AAA's have one city-sized host apiece hovering above the Matrix.  It makes no sense that each of those behemoths is limited to one copy of each IC program to protect its entirety.

I don't have Coyotes book yet but have a question that relates....

Are you sure that it is multiple copies of IC that are running and not different IC with the same function?

IE: its 6 different tar babies running on the same host, and not a single tar baby running six times....

(A little bit different)
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

It's X copies of Patrol IC, X copies of Track IC, X copies of Black IC.  I think it means what you suggest, X individual IC programs of the same type on the host.  That still seems off-limits based on the quote in the original post, but I'm including it in my campaign.
