AFAIK, Catalyst sends their books directly to the distributors, Battleshop, and DriveThruRPG. Amazon gets them through distributors further down the line. And I think it has been said before that Catalyst sees more money out of Battleshop and DriveThruRPG sales than they do Amazon, so why shouldn't they encourage those avenues?
Catalyst isn't responsible for cleaning up Amazon's crap. They make the books, they put the books out through their distributors. Amazon does its own thing, and you'd be better off trusting politician's promises, or that construction projects will be completed on time and under budget, than anything they put as a release date.
