Decided today that I wanted run my game group through SR4 Missions using SR5 rules. Is there any reason I shouldn't be doing this? Anything I need to be aware of or look out for? Will converting the SR4 specific rules over to SR5 be more trouble than it's worth? I've read through Firing Line and Chasin' The Wind and I don't think my players have had their fill of Seattle just yet so I'd rather keep them close to home for a while before turning them into jet setters.

To those of you who have played through the SR4 Missions, would you say you were satisfied overall with the plots?

I'm particularly interested in getting my players involved in the evolving metaplot and guide them into becoming big players in the shadows. Am I right in thinking that these SR Missions will lead them into more epic territory over time? So far I've only read Back In Business, but it seems like a solid place to begin.

Anyhow, your feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't gotten to play SRMS4, but I did read them all over.  I was going to do this as a way to get my players used to SR5.  We ended up just running SRMS5 in the end though.

I've looked over the SRMS4 modules and from what I can see, there's no REAL reason not to do it for a private group.  The only caveat is that the NPCs in SRMS4 tend to be ever so slightly lower powered than their counterparts in SRMS5 (example, in 4 the dicepool for Gymnastics for a Big Bad might be 10, in 5 it's 12).  That's just the nature of going from 1-6 skill ratings to 1-12.

Really though, everything else is pretty easy to convert over.  Armor 7-9?  then it's an 8.  No accuracy or limits?  work it out.  The stats on the creatures and NPCs are all the same (Body-Charisma+Mag/Resonance).  You'll just have to futz with the weapons/commlinks a bit.  If there's a decking run (rare) then you'll need to use your own judgement on how to configure the Spider's deck and programs (as they're WAY different).

Overall though?  Yeah, go for it.

Armor 7~9 would become 12. Most gear exists in SR5 or has similar models, so that's not a big problem.

I was putting in NPCs from Humanitarian Aid yesterday into Hero Labs (for my own record keeping and tracking combat).

Armor Jacket went from say 7-9 to an 8 in 5th edition.  It was almost always in the middle.

You'll have to double check your numbers here and there (i.e. what is the armor of Auctioneer Bus. Clothes in 5th ed.) instead of just using the stats from 4th edition, but other than that it's easy.  heck, you're the GM, fudge a number if you need to.

You're thinking Armor Vest, which went from 6/4 to 9, or the Business Clothes which went from 5/3 to 8. Armor Jacket's 8/6 turned into 12 in SR5. In general, all armor values simply went x1.5, just like pretty much every weapon.

So now I'm considering running Copycat Killer before starting on Season 4 Missions. Is this a good idea? Will Copycat Killer properly run into Back In Business? I've read that Copycat Killer, On A Silver Platter and Carbon Copy [SR5] is a trilogy of sorts, but I want to be sure that Copycat and Back In Business makes sense as a followup.

Copycat Killer takes place... Like, half a year or so chronologically before Season 4? So a year before Silver Platter?

It's a shame you can't get the original Ashes, since that one actually echoes into Season 4: You encounter the consequences multiple times, iirc in 1 and 5.

Then would your recommendation be to skip Copycat Killer if I'm going to go right into Season 4? It might be weird to just hand wave that much time away unless I want to weave some GM Magic.

You could just move it half a year in the timeline. Also means the runners first meet a few of the NPCs before season 4 starts, which can be quite nice and can result in an "oh, you" speech a few times. ^_^

So I've been reading over Copycat Killer today and I'm wondering if it wouldn't make more sense to put it in the middle of Missions somewhere. The setup assumes that the players have already met MacAlister, and he's having this heavy moment with his daughter being murdered, so it kind of seems like it might carry more weight if it came at some after the players have done a job or two for him. I can't say for sure where a good point would be to fit that into Season 4, and I'm not sure if all of the political stuff would make sense at a different point, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone's got any ideas.

I really don't think that's a good idea. His role in Season 4 is basically following up on his daughter's legacy.

It should be noted that the characters in this case probably aren't usable at Missions games run by other people like at conventions.

But if this is essentially a home game using Missions content, play on!
