| == Description == Receding dark hair. Average looking. He could use some exercise, but the practice of his art keeps him too busy for it. He's not flamboyant, keeping a low profile and casual attires. He's often caught talking aloud (though he's probably just conversing with one of his summoned elemental). His social downfall and lack of success in his business had left him bitter and cynical, only reinforcing his bad habits. == Background == Born in 2032, McClane was a forensic expert with a passion for magic theories. In spite of years of magical studies, his talent however never expressed itself before the apparition of Halley's Comet in 2061. With the appearance of SURGE and earth's extreme makeover with the ring of Fire and other tidal storms, he quite freaked out and kept his new found abilities a secret. It was in the summer '64 that he managed to summon his first spirit, a few weeks before the crash of '64. The crash brought doom and chaos in his life. His wife, a fellow scientist, died trapped in the matrix, his lab burnt to ground, and he lost his SIN. He had nothing left; he drank heavily and flew away. He traveled for some time, learning what he could about his art - the only thing that was left in him - then settled in Seattle, hoping for some good opportunities and to restart a new life. Life as a SINless is not without ajustment however and McClane had quite a hard time at the beginning. See, he always tried to do good, but things never went his way. Sometimes the harder he was trying the worst happened! He started to see a parallel between power and chaos. He couldn't get any official license, and people always seemed to distrust him. He became an unlicensed occult investigator, hoping to help people in poorer neighborhood who couldn't get police or government assistance. Business was slow and all the money was reinvested in becoming a better magician. It wasn't before another life changing even that McClane turned to the shadows. If he always had a knack at summoning elementals, he learnt the hard way that he was pretty bad at Banishing. When a binding attempt on an earth spirit turned bad, he found out too late that had no talent whatsoever at sending the spirit back to its plane. He stood no chance in the fight. He was left dying, broken, but never saw the Light. Darkness came and Death, with a capital D. He surprisingly felt no fear, no sorrow. Death wasn't here to take him, but to guide him in the Realm of Life. He had found his Mentor Spirit, one he had not expected, the Dark King. The encounter had left him weaker but more aware of the world and its balance. Since that day, he embraced the Shadows. He understood that darkness only relates to evil in people's misconception of things. He was walking a dark path but one made of secrecy and mysteries, not blood and death. He knew he was a good man and the Dark King was but the keeper of secrets. Life wasn't any easier however. Reputation was everything in the streets, his wasn't pretty. Maybe it was because bad things tended to happen around him or maybe few liked to work with someone with a strong penchant for drinks and drugs. Or maybe because other Magicians were not taking him seriously... who knew. None of his last two teams' partners had made it alive to tell a tale. Now money was running short, and few of his former contacts would consider talking to him.He had to find a run soon, and for once, finish it. == Concept == Occult Investigator. | (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6497226/Limited%20Engagement/McCainFull01.png) |
Okay, so our roster looks like this:
Patches (medic/rigger) - irisheathen
Emily "Lynx" Harris (face/wheelman/rigger) - user-unknown
Tex (street sam) - SeriousOne338
Tian Lu (fire support/infiltration) - Novocrane
Harry "Maverick" Westwood (gun adept) - DiscoDwarf
McCain (mage) - obidancer
Hitch (datathief) - Ethan
We have 7, which is one over my initial imit of 6, but that's alright. I thought at first that we'd have 8, in which case I'd just split it into two groups of 4.
I wouldn't be too worried about overlapping occult investigators - adept and mage versions of that concept are different enough, and On The Run is primarily a retrieval run with investigation mixed in, so having more than one investigator should prove useful.
I have a character sheet for everyone except Ethan, and I'm sure he can get that turned in over the weekend. As you've all been so patient, I'm going to go ahead and start up a thread for us (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=9334.0) to get started, so we can all post ourselves in at a leisurely pace over the weekend.
Are we limiting our gun choices to the core book as well? If so, just a question about the HK 227-X: if I add a Gas Vent 3 for it can I switch between sound suppressor and the gas vent's recoil compensation? Or should I just go with the Smartgun for that?

The game I was planing on running fell through, If you were planing to have 2 groups of four It would be great If I could be the 8th
Looking at the characters it looks like 3 combat characters. 2 riggers and a hacker. And a mage. With people splashing in to face infiltration. So what would be ideal is A face/infiltrator mage, but thats pretty much impossible without being a pixie... Oh god. Something a little more reasonable would be an adept infiltrator face.
Well games started but just putting it out there.

Before you can enter, you are taken through a MAD scanner and wanded as well. Weapons are electronically tagged and held in a secure, individual safe keyed to your SIN (or fake SIN). Weapons are stored unloaded, of course.Does this include ubiquitous self-defence items like tasers?
Ok so I hate invisible castle but I'm still using it. Since I cant seem to register I wont be able to do some stuff and I don't know how long they will keep the roll info. (I've now tried several different emails, checked spam folders and sent them emails but to no avail.)Are there any setting options you can fiddle with?
linked texttext you want people to see
This worked for me.
I use rolz.org to roll dice.
I've created a room for the Game: go to http://rolz.org/group (http://rolz.org/group) add the name of your character for nickname and "Limited_Engagement" for the room name.
Anyone going to http://rolz.org/myroomlog?r=Limited_Engagement (http://rolz.org/myroomlog?r=Limited_Engagement) can see the log.
Pretty easy, straight forward and no need for registration.
What do you think about it?
At least it could be useful to know names and company of a few from the music industry. Who knows, we may need that.
Hitch, here is a quick render of your character:

Quick questionWe're going to be continuing in our existing thread, which you can find here: http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=9334.60
Will this be a continuation of an already open thread, or will there be a new thread started?
What's your deadline on new character sheets? I whipped this one up rather quick based off of a concept I've been toying with for a lil' bit. He's a security analyst, a rather sociable one at that. If we start getting into the other books I'll break out my main character, but I'm rather happy with this one, and it's all SR4A.

== Info ==
Gary Franglejack wasn't your average troll, he didn't do manual labour, he never "Ran with the gang". Gary loved computers, the Matrix and all the broad reaches of the world it could take him to. Eventually Gary worked up enough money doing freelance IT work to put himself through technical college to become a Matrix Security Analyst.
Gary has a shock of wild orange hair, and likes to paint his jutting oryx like horns with neon body paint, in either of his ears he has a myriad of silicon piercing in an array of colours. Wild contacts in a cyan colour, bulky retro wireless headphones ringed with lights and large antenna, and broad shades with a yellow and black checkered pattern across them.

Reiper, with our Cyber Ork gone we're pretty weak on the fighting side while your manipulator is very close in skills to my mage. I'd vote for you doing the Sammy if you don't mind any. Understand that if you prefer to play the Shaman, I am fine wit that, it is just a suggestion for the completeness of the team.
It is active, accessible with this link: Limited Engagement: On the Run (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=9334.0)
If someone wants to, assuming an acquaintance with Nemesis, leave her a message on her commlink and I'll receiving and head in as some extra muscle,I'm thinking that you were already hired by the venue to keep an eye out (they were running out of gang members), and you'd meet the team that way (perhaps they could bribe you guys to help them, haha)

I post the little interaction between McClane and Smiley to move things along a bit to get the new team together. I was counting on Nemesis already working as the security. So upon receiving the message she'd be there already. The job is certainly better paid than the few hours of watching over drunk gang members and crazy groupies.
Mr Smith is in already. Upon recognizing Glitch as a possible hacker, he's willing to give the young man a chance for a run, not knowing it may not be the Technomancer's first job in the shadows.
That leave us with getting Freakazoid. I think a spider would simply have control of some cameras and maybe drones to watch over the crowd, as well as be in contact with all Security members to direct them toward potential trouble.
Glitch will have to prove himself before he gets McClane's trust, so maybe Nemesis knows Freakazoid and his lack of loyalty toward the concert organizers, and offers to use him too for the run. That way the team is done, there will be some acquaintance between team members, and we're ready to move forward and we may get an small advantage to get in anyway with both Nemesis and Freakazoid part of the security team.
So that everyone is on the same page: the plan so far is to get in, and a) find and retrieve email from Nabo's commlink, b) if we can get near Nabo, have him reveal what he knows about the originator and possibly how to get to the Disk. We'll have better chances going in from the backstage entrance, avoiding the main crowd, and having easier access to Nabo and his stuffs.
How we get in is yet to be defined. Groupies seem to be allowed access in but we're limited in attractive female ork, tickets are way too expensive, and muscling our way him might not be wise with all those gangers around. So far, coning our way in seems the first choice of action. Nemesis can convince other security we're ok to be in, or McClane can have anyone looking like a pretty groupie with his Physical Mask spell.
Reiper, McClane's last message had your cue to introduce Aryeonos' character to the team. If you guys decide you know each other, with GM permission, you may just have ask the Troll to come with you to meet us all.
Sorry Obidancer but just inviting someone off the street into a group is a little out there IC. Patches will clam down in a second.
To let everyone know I'm rather new to SR and this is my first time playing a matrix based character so I really have no idea what I'm capable of. Any suggestions will be welcome.
To let everyone know I'm rather new to SR and this is my first time playing a matrix based character so I really have no idea what I'm capable of. Any suggestions will be welcome. As a drone rigger, what you should be doing is dependent on the types of drones you have. I've always found it effective to have a drone up in the air acting as over-watch, and one loaded with weapons ready to provide fire support.
Quick question Jonathan,Normally trying to "blend into the crowd" is just an application of Infiltration (with an Urban specialization). In this case, it sounds like you'd be more overt, relying on the fact that you're a guard. So that would be more like Etiquette, to sound/act like you belong in the area. Possibly Con to explain any discrepancies. Basically, if you're dressed like security, most people will ignore you. If you're challenged, it'd be by another security person who knows you're not supposed to be back there, and you'd need to fast-talk your way out of it.
When nem is inside, and backstage, if I'm trying to be inconspicuous while looking for something that I'm not supposed to be looking for, or poking around what do you want me to roll? And will I get any bonus for being security +2 or something?

Make sense?
Jonathanc, can I assume with my assensing rolls than I notice Freakazoid is awaken?
Too bad I didn't roll the 5 successes on Glitch, I would have find out he's a technomancer!

okay, no prob, I'm still waiting for GM feedback.Just saw your matrix perception on the warehouse node. You got 4 hits, so you can ask me 4 questions about the node. The book gives a few examples of things that you can ask, but if you want to know something else, I'm sure we can work something out:
I think I'm only allowed to know external things about the node at this point. not sure
*Encryption status of the node?
*Firewall Rating?
*Is this node I'm targeting the master node? or do I need to get into it to know that.
*Data bomb (doubt it, but it'd be funny if people were being booted/crashing the node constantly.
So is a stealth program important if I plan on spoofing something (I understand it is very important if I'm hacking in other capacities)? Cause after some research I realized I should probably have a stealth program which I don't. >:( :-[ Also can I find/ buy one on the matrix or possibly somehow in character say that I had one but It was messed up and have an excuse to ask freak for help in getting one without patches showing what a idiot his player is? I'd also be willing to trade one of the programs I bought at character creation (that I haven't used) for a stealth program of equal value. Sorry everybody :-[
@Aryeonos: I much more versed in the Magic Rules than Matrix so help me understand or clarify a few things. The action of readying the Exploit program, what is it for? So that you can use it next round? Would it take you an extra action if you didn't activate now?You can't run a program higher than your system, which mine is 6, if you run more programs than your system you start getting response degradation, which will hurt you in matrix combat. I readied it in advance because the cryptanalysis takes a whole combat round, so I used my first IPs to ready some things, and unload a few others. (Which it doesn't say anywhere how many actions unloading a program takes.)
You activated on your link a R6 Exploit program, I was under the impression that you can't have a program running higher than your 'link Response (You can have programs up to System Rating, R6 in your case, but they can only run at Response Rating, 5 in your case I believe), Am I not correct?
SRA p222
The System program is limited by the base Response rating of the device it is on: if the base Response rating of the device is lower than the System rating, then the System rating is set to equal the Response rating.

System limits indeed the rating of programs but Response limits how high the system can run therefore also limiting the Rating of the programs running.
So basically, Response is your hardware, and system is your operating system. It doesn't matter if you have a fast OS if your computer is still crap.
I'm trying to see if I can pick out heat signatures through the roof (depending on what its made out of, or if it has sky lights, ect.) ;D
But I really have no idea what to roll. :-[
Also, I'm assuming the roof is corrugated metal or something, so it would block imaging, though the roof will probably heat up/appear warm.I'm trying to see if I can pick out heat signatures through the roof (depending on what its made out of, or if it has sky lights, ect.) ;D

Freebie: Due to the huge number of people in that warehouse, identifying any one person by heat signature is going to be nearly impossible.
Sorry about the absence everyone, family stuff called hard. But I'm back and posting now.
Okay, a few questions for clarification. The guard in front of the dressing room has not yet left the room. He is trying to contact Jager by commlink. The guard by the exit is indeed inside the building. That door is the only door that is being guarded from the inside, as the front and side entrances (which both lead to the concert floor) are only guarded from the outside.
The guard in front of the dressing room has run off to find his boss, right?
And the guard by the exit is inside the building, correct?
Also, very sorry about some people being left with nothing to do. I'm trying to wrap this scene up soon so that everyone can get back together.
So, this game dead then?
I'm sorry about the sudden absence. I've been dealing with a lot of RL stuff in the past week. I'm really sorry to have been so inconsistent...I'd like to continue, but to be fair to everyone's time, it might be best to let this lie.
