So... the dragon at the end who comes in and attacks your party for hunting on his turf.  We killed it in 2 rounds.  WOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!  We took trophies.  The GM was all "uhhhhh... I don't know about selling those items...."  We told the GM, "Screw that!  We just want trophies that we killed an 'effing dragon!!!!"

Overall, I didn't really like this mission since my character is all set up for the "urban dark" of Shadowrun cities, not so much for "critter huntin'" in the high desert.  Made the mission kinda boring overall for me, but that is because of my character.  But that dragon at the end sure caught my attention!!!

Sorry bro, this needs to be in the Missions General section. Thank you for your insight tho.

All I can say is I know you guys handled that final scene better than a few other groups, did.  I sat in for about half an hour on the last table running it, on Sunday, and their GM had given them the other option for a final throw-down, and it ended with one player burning Edge not to die, and two others down and bleeding out when the fight ended.  And I won't even say what damage level someone was at, the other game (with a dragon) I heard about.  ;)

The climactic fight scene was, indeed, climactic, at several tables.  I'm sorry you guys knocked it out so fast!

I was actually kind of relieved that we didn't throw down with the dragon.  Having read the module afterwards because I was curious about background info tucked away in it, I know we could have handled it pretty easily, but really, it's not something that any of our characters had any sort of yardstick to measure against to determine that.  I was also far more concerned with whether we'd be able to get away with killing it.

All in all, I highly enjoyed the adventure.  It was nice to be someplace where I felt like I got something out of having the Outdoors group.
I was actually bummed we didn't get either of the capstone combats due to time constraints one of the few times I've ever been bummed to miss a combat. We were about half high karma badasses and half almost green news so we might have gotten our butts kicked but if i'd actually got to whack a dragon i'd have retired Lifeseeker on the spot as it would have been a high point to go out on..
Everyone finds their retirement job somewhere.  Sometimes it's a brush with death that convinces the runner to hang it up.  Sometimes it's a score that they know they'll never be able to top.  Sometimes it happens when the story ends.  Which one feels right depends on the character.

And sometimes, you just recognize that your character is too mechanically wonky for the campaign.

I should clarify:  There were 7 players at our table.  2 of us had veteran characters with lots of karma.  1 player had some karma, but not a lot.  The other four players were brand spankin' new.  The dragon went first and breathed fire.  5 of the characters went down dead right then and there.  Myself and the other veteran character dodged the heck out of the way.  We both had multiple actions and are incredibly good with our chosen guns.  We burned through that dragon's Edge like a hot knife on butter and still did a lot of damage.  In the 2nd round, the dragon was killed.  The only "new" character to survive was the guy who had a semi-new character with some karma... but survived by a slim thread.

It was a good module overall, but mostly boring for me simply due to my own character - not really the fault of the module.  I was playing a character adapted to the city scape setting of most SRM/CMP modules - not an outdoors/wilderness character at all, so it was a tad boring for me.  But the ending sure woke me up.  Heh.

Each of the adventures had a basic theme going for it, based on the major, iconic, things that just jumped into my head when I sat down to write four Tir-based adventures.  I wanted the border security/smuggling to come into play, I wanted one to point out that for all the fantasyland veneer Portland still has crime and gangs (just like "home" for most players), I wanted one to deal heavily with laes, and I wanted one to be about magical critters and the wilderness stuff.

Sorry your urban killer got stuck in the wilderness one!  Hopefully you had a chance to play one or two of the others, or picked them up in Elven Blood, so you can feel more at home.  :)

Playing a guy who's survival and other assorted outdoors group usually go unused I enjoyed me some Grocery List immensely.

No worries.  I am sure anyone who had an outdoors or bounty hunter type character had great fun.

I played the whole Elven Blood CMP series, CMP-05,06, 07, and 08 (all in order).  I liked the series.  It was a great deal of fun.  Especially the "Hung Over" part in CMP 2012-08.  Fit my character well to wake up the next day in a hospital after killing the dragon....  (with russian accent) "Oh manz!!!  Dat must have beenz a big crazy good timez parties last nights!!!  Yeeeeaah!!"  The other veteran player and his PC were even in that game... symmetry was perfect.  Lulz....

And it was fun to play the series simply because I live in Portland and it was interesting to see how others see Portland, and what it can become, or will become....  So yeah, overall, I greatly enjoyed the series.

Awesome, man.  Glad to hear y'all had a good time!  There's nothing more fun in this job than to hear folks had a blast playing through your adventures, or using something else you wrote in a game.  I'm really psyched from all the folks I've been hearing from, complimenting the book and/or the individual Missions.  It's just awesome.

And, just FYI?  It's not so much my vision of Portland, or even what Portland might become...so much as...hrm...my vision of what Nigel Findley's vision of Portland can become can become?  Or...errr...something like that.  ;)  The Elven Blood adventures and the not-too-far-off Land of Promise e-book are very much love letters and/or updates to the old Tir Tairngire book.  Nigel's Portland-that-could-be, moreso than the real Portland.

To be fair, Portland feels just a bit more Shadowrun-ish than Atlanta, which really seems like stepping into the SR world.

Winnipeg is surprisingly Shadowrunish.

I also loved the Elven Blood adventures. Ancient Pawns was great. I thought the symmetry between the adventures was great as well.

I played in both Grocery List and Hung Over with crowofpyke at GenCon. That Russian accent is even more hilarious in person.

Playing a manipulation mage, there were parts of both missions that I enjoyed. That dragon showing up was pretty incredible. I was one point of damage from death after that initial blast. Crowofpyke with his pistols and my buddy (the veteran PC with heavy weapons and a gauss rifle sadly packed away in the RV) made that dragon hate life. If I remember right, it was the newbie street sam that got the killing blow. With a katana. Definitely a very satisfying encounter, even if I had to enjoy it as a crumpled heap of third degree burns and gore.

Yeah, hungover the next morning with 4 of the same characters after killing the dragon was absolutely awesome.  Oh my god the waitress in the storeroom with Yuri was almost better than the dragon.  Almost.  It would have been over so much quicker if I hadn't left the Gauss rifle in the RV.  I think the killing blow was actually the dwarf sam's spurs.  I'm not sure that he had a katana.

those two adventures back to back totally made the convention for me.  I wish i's seen this thread way back in august.

Since I didn't have an opportunity to pick up a copy of Elven Blood at GenCon, I had a west coast connection grab one at PAX and ship it east for me. My biggest regret from an awesome Con was not grabbing that book, so I'm glad my friend pulled through. I'm running the missions for my home group in a few weeks, likely with a few minor tweaks due to khovaros up there already having completed 3 of them. Can't wait.
