"And I'll form the head!"
-
"Distinctive" comes to mind.
-
A friend of mine asked his GM if he could buy 5 different vehicles and mod them so they would weld together on command.
'Wouldn't it be awesome? He'd be just like Vol-"
"NO!" >:(
"But but..."
"JUST...NO!"
-
No voltron bad voltron smack with newspaper!
Yes distinctive. but is it fun for you to be such? or are you the tricked out ford americar plane on the outside killler busness on the inside kind of guy?
With the chameleon caoting to go invisable or hard to see what ever you can still take it on runs.
-
making 5 vehicles smash together on command would be easy!
the hard part would be getting home after all 5 of your cars were involved in a simultaneous head-on collision :)
-
So besides Goofy cartoon references would you ride one?
-
Oh, hell no. I have enough trouble with an ultra-sleek speed demon's dream of a sports car, you think I'm going to climb onto something that's going to draw attention from the cops like an AR Spamalot virus?
-
Using them as a commercial stunt to distract could maybe work.
Rasmus
-
Add Gecko mods to the feet so it can walk up/against buildings.
Not sure about the biting head thing. I'd just put a weapon mount there and put a "Custom Look 2" weapon in it so it fits the heads design. Its growl being a full burst from a LMG is way better than biting someone's rear bumper.
-
I like how you think Xzylvador!
Rasmusnicolaj They can go stealthy with the Chameleon Coating.
Ouroboros If you hit a base out in the booniees with no cops and the terrain Chewed up Offroad vehichles for snacks would you? oh and your Godmother asked you too prrety please lol!
-
It's growl being a full burst from a LMG is way better than biting someone's rear bumper.
Considering there's already things out there that you don't want to catch your vehicle with when it starts chasing you!
"Oh Ghost, it's got the bumper, punch it!" "It's all the way down, it's... IT'S HOLD THE REAR WHEELS UP!" "Put it in Four-Wheel Drive!" "This is a SEDAN!"
-
"Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think?"
-
"We were robbing the place, not storming it!"
-
Ouroboros If you hit a base out in the booniees with no cops and the terrain Chewed up Offroad vehichles for snacks would you? oh and your Godmother asked you too prrety please lol!
Sheesh, you kids.
It's funny how you say 'what if you had to do X', when most of the time I've had to do X. When the terrain is so tough it chews up offroad vehicles and spits out thumbtacks, I go organic. Talk nice to the locals, find out how they get around. Hell, do research before you go. Then pay a guide, rent horses or dromedaries or yaks or reindeer. Buy a dead-solid pair of hiking boots if you don't already have them, wear them plenty to break them in, and bring a month's worth of survival bars for Just In Case, because the one 'runner that's on every team that nobody wants is Mr. Murphy, and you just may have to hike your ass out.
Hell, I'd count on hiking in anyhow.
-
I don't understand this obsession with 'mechs.
It's more or less military gear. It's totally unsuited to most runner situations because it's so overt. Like driving a main battle tank down the street.
As soon as one shows up the opposition will be calling for heavy backup. And let's face it, most of the folks a runner team is likely to face, that HAVE backup, can probably call in enough firepower to flatten said 'mech if they feel they need it.
This is Shadowrun, not Battletech.
-k
-
Exactly. You see one, you send a guy for the one-shot or four-pack missile launcher -- what is it now? Aztechnology Striker for the one, and a doubling of the volume on the other, the Mitsubishi Yakusoku MRL. One or two shots as the animal-bike-mech deals with the fence and the trench, and you can inspect the debris for clues.
Sometimes the whole 'shadow' part gets lost in translation, I guess.
-
They have too see it to shoot it thats the main purposse to get Chameleon Coating just have the rider geared up too.
Or it is just your ride to and from the job.
-
Chameleon Coating only imposes a perception modifier. It's not actual invisibility.
A mech is going to be receiving enough penalties to stealth that even a mook might be able to tell it's there, even if he can't make out details. This isn't even counting stuff like radar and ultrasound, which will be totally unaffected by Chameleon Cloaking.
On a Shadowrun scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being total serious black trenchcoat and 10 being the wildest pink mohawk games, mechs as regular runner toys tend to sit at maybe 12-14. At that point it really stops being Shadowrun.

When the ---it hits the fan I want military grade hoop saving to come and at lest pull the fire from my bacon bits so i might run away to spend/earn neuyen another day
-
Well, do what ya want.
I'm just of the opinion that it just doesn't fit the theme of the game.
And it's likely to get your character killed. Painting a bullseye on yourself is usually not a good thing.
-k

Sounds like you want a merc campaign. Sure, it hits the fan now and then, but a good shadowrunner is a smart shadowrunner -- which means s/he follows the 7P Principles.
Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance.
Excellent example of this during the play of 'Moving Day' at Dragon-Con.
We'd planned out multiple distractions if/when they became necessary, and once infiltrated into the compound, set those up which required on-site use. When the technomancer girl alerted security, I put three AV rounds through the second-floor window (might've been overkill, but hey), KO'd the protesting girl with a patch, handed the family down to the dressed-up-as-a-guard troll, and the mage stunbolted the one guard who saw us getting away. The other guards in the compound chased after our distraction -- a car from the compound hacked and taken over by the rigger, and sent on a wild goose chase while we trundled sedately towards our exit strategy ...
If you don't plan for getting discovered for the street scum you are, you probably will be -- and will probably have to shoot your way out at that point. Fake IDs, supporting widgets, no-see-ums, hacking feeds, they're all part and parcel of not having to climb onto some modified-to-hell-and-back walker-motorcycle and clank your ass out of there...

@Karma Inferno & TWO: Sorry, but I do think you're kind of overreacting.
Of the modifications done to this vehicle, only 2 are illegal and neither of those (Chameleon Coating and Retractable Spurs) are obvious when you look at the vehicle, in fact they're created not to be obvious.
I'll give it to you, this isn't a low profile vehicle and it's bound to turn some heads. But there's nothing at all which warrants the first response of anyone who sees it being "Call in an airstrike!" or "Get Thor powered up!".
It's a perfectly legal vehicle to drive around in Seattle or Denver or wherever you're running and other than not being able to blend in the traffic, having a mobile version of "Distinctive Style" and being pulled over at every security checkpoint, there shouldn't be any problem driving... riding this.

You are essentially correct, Xzy. The point that I, at least, am trying to make is 'why have the penalties of Distinctive Style if you don't need to?' It's the nail that sticks up that gets hammered.
Gangs are one of the most talked-about and focussed-upon criminal problems in the US today. Why do they get so much attention? Well, besides the indiscriminate violence, the drugs, the assaults, the murders, etc. etc. etc., it's the fact that gangs are so identifiable. It's practically a sin for a gang member to not wear his colors, to not tag his 'hood, to drive around in anything that doesn't scream 'gang banger'. Law enforcement therefore keeps an eye on anyone wearing those colors, spraypainting walls in those patterns, cars with that sort of style. Compare and contrast to the perpetrator of the most successful investor fraud in history -- Bernie Madoff. Yes, he bought ridiculously expensive things and lived like a king (things that should tip you off anyhow, but hey), but he didn't go around in a pimped-out '67 Chevy that bounced up and down to the beat of the music.
If you're a shadowrunner, you should be moving as far under the radar as possible. When you pull up to your target, you shouldn't be drawing attention. Guards shouldn't be saying, 'Will ya look at that!!' They should be saying, 'Great, another delivery.'
If your character is female, be a mom with a minivan, a baby, and a baby carriage. Nobody looks twice at them -- and often help them out. Not only will the guards be less likely to stop you at the gate, they'll help you in the door ...

^ Which is exactly what we're doing in the PbP going on here ;)
And I'm glad we agree then:
It doesn't get artillery fired your way, but it's not really the best way to be inconspicuous. (<-- spelled that right in one try, I did!)
What it is though, is an very cool vehicle which should probably earn you as much BP in 'Distinctive Style' than you had to spend to buy it.

Not immediately, no, and not if you're just driving down the street. If you're driving it towards the front gate of a surrounded-by-farmland corporate facility, by all means they should start warming up the autocannon, because their own corporate people don't use that sort of thing, and neither do any of the local yokels. If you're driving it through the arroyos and badlands towards a corp zero-zone, they are definitely going to take notice. Besides, the electronic vehicle and its EM radiation is going to be spotted far, far before a small group of horses -- or at least something will be more readily done about it.
I prefer other distinctive styles. 'The X-32 experimental wave modulator is missing, and none of our guards remember what happened between 3 and 4 am.' "Damn, that must be that Hawatari I keep hearing about..."

So just add as much Signature Masking as you can and tun on the Chameleon coating ride slow to keep down the dust trail stop at the outer perimeter and start spoofing the workes.

But what is the point of investing all that Nuyen into it if you are gonna have such limited use of it?

Well thats not the end of it. You spoof the defenses get in park near your exit point Chameleon active then on your way out haveing droped off/picked up the packagge Hopfuly without notice you get gone if not you cats pilots bring them to you pounce on your foes shred them and you mount up and ride out.
I have got the idea (i don't know how original it is) of installing in the tail a retrackable monowire whip. Thoughts?

... sounds like a brilliant idea. I'm glad you're a part of it!! :P

and here's how any attempt at voltron will end in my game worlds!

And this is what would happen in mine! (http://youtu.be/r8cCyNp9fNo)
And, yes, it would happen in New Jersey as well!

I seriously hope they make that movie.. it threw me a bit that the guy on the ship was Lieutenant Latimer from Psych, looks like he'd be awesome in that role though

That video was awesome! I will admit, I shed mantears over the fallen Voltron. So many hours in front of the TV spent watching Voltron, epic end though.

Megas XLR: How to be even MORE manly when you have a giant robot!
Pity it wasn't renewed.
-
I think it's a great idea, sometimes the best way to be invisible is to be loud and proud. Cos for all the reasons you've pointed out no one who was up to stuff would be so obvious. Also makes a great focus on me not the troll for a face character.
-
soooo I'm working up a character that is a "beastmaster" type. He's a dwarven druid mystic adept with a wolf mentor spirit. He's got animal empathy positive quality as well as animal empathy (4) adept power, along with the Animal Handling skill group that includes the Riding skill. I was thinking of having him ride a Fenrir Wolf who is disguised as a motorcycle using one of the illusion spells and a sustaining focus. Here's the wolf description:
FENRIR WOLF
Canis lupus aesiri
Habitat: Forests
Range: Germany, Scandinavia, and far Eastern Europe Frequency: Uncommon
Identification: The fenrir wolf is a large canine, standing 150 centimeters tall with a length of 220 centimeters. It can weigh up to 150 kilograms. It has short, dense fur that can be white, cream, red, brown, grey, black, or a mottled pattern mix. It has well-developed canines and curved claws. Females are typically smaller than males.
Habits: The fenrir wolf is the Awakened version of the common European wolf. It is a nocturnal carnivore that hunts in packs of six to eight members. It is fearless, and it attacks all manner and sizes of targets. It is territorial, and packs have fought over territory, though deaths are infrequent. It is highly resistant to magic, strong beyond its size, able to crush bone in its jaws, and the most feared predator in Europe. Farmers hire armed security to protect cattle from roving packs.
Fenrir wolf packs have both an alpha male and an alpha fe- male. Females can have up to six pups in a den that is dug among bushes or rocks. While the male will bring home food for the caring female and pups, he will also kill off weaker pups or entire litters if necessary so that only the strongest join the pack. Fenrir wolves have a lifespan of 10 years.
The numbers of fenrir wolves are kept low by a shortage of suitable habitat and hunting. As with the golden boar, the German government’s protection of the Black Forest and Saeder-Krupp’s species protection program has helped stabilize fenrir wolf numbers, though not without some resistance. S-K has also worked out a breeding program to produce fenrir wolves for security. The corporation takes pups that would have otherwise been killed by an alpha male. Such security animals fetch a high price on the market, as it’s almost impossible to tame a wild fenrir.
Movement: 15/60
Skills: Counterspelling 3, Infiltration 2, Intimidation 2, Perception 3, Shadowing 3, Tracking 3, Unarmed Combat 4
Powers: Enhanced Senses (Hearing, Low-Light Vision, Smell), Fear, Magical Guard (Self ), Natural Weapon (Claws/Bite: DV 6P,AP1)
-
Well, as long as you're resigned to moving at nothing faster than a quick cruise at 15/60... though you might keep a spirit on-hand to use Movement.
14,000¥ to buy, 250¥ a month with a minimum Middle Lifestyle, training time -- and the everpresent possibility that y'know, it might just get tired of you and rip both your arms off... sounds fun.
-
I've always thought that motorcycles were total death machines, I guess this just takes it to the next level!
Funny part is that the same spell could be used to disguise this gigantic wolf as, say, a beagle. People would never see it coming! It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight, only having the knife transform into a Bradley Fighting Vehicle.
-
i would buy that knife.
-
This is really cool and all, but how do I get my motoslave (http://www.bnamodelworld.com/images/kits/AOS04447_1.jpg)?
-
Well, first you have to get your Knight Saber armor ...
-
I'm thinking you can maybe cover that with an enclosed anthroform drone with some passenger space and body armor. Then just VCR to it. Add a rocket pack or something for fun, load it down with the payload of a small army and then watch runners scramble for cover as Mitsuhama deploys a radical new type of corpsec.
-
Personally I would prefer the Cyclone Armor from Robotech.
-
As long as it is a mechanized suit of armor that turns into a motorcycle, that's enough for me.
Thought. Is there an option to tone the body down, remove superfluous protrusions like rear view windows and replace them with AR windows?
