I was wondering what people thought about available modifications for bows.
Can they use a laser sight?
What about a personalized grip? I would assume that the personalized grip would add to dice pool (since there isn't any recoil to negate).
Gecko grip, powered breakdown, maybe melee hardening?
I'm working up a character who uses a strength 8 bow as his main weapon and am trying to see what cool modification sets I can put together for it.

Smartlink.
-
does anyone know if a smartlink is actually allowed for a bow? I can totally see why it would be, and I can see why some could argue that it wouldn't be.

The smartgun system connects a firearm or
projectile weapon directly to a user’s smartlink (p. 333).
SR4A p322 (Emphasis mine)

I want smartgun links on my throwing daggers now! OH! And Hand Grenades!

So, lets say you've got a player with a cyberarm and he throws a lot of grenades. Would you allow him to take a smartgun system or airburst feature?
Nevermind, that would just be covered with an implanted grenade launcher.
A new character build is creeping up on me here.

Neither are projectile weapons. Both class as throwing weapons.
Given the magictech more or less described by the game I can make it work for bows and cross bows and (with some stretching) even slingshots.
The smartgun adapter has to measure the tension of the bow and alignment of the projectile. Given a holographic overlay and the ability to test those items (and maybe atmospheric effects and things like that) I'd suspect it shows flight path and impact point with first detectable object likely to stop the arrow/bolt/slug. Ease up on the pull or slip it slightly to the side and the impact point moves appropriately.

We have physics engines that can do that today... So why not?

There's been talk of "smartball" technology since the basketball section of Shadowbeat.
-
Not to mention baseball in "Wolf and Raven".

As soon as I read about smartball technology I stat-ed up the rules. Just seemed like a cool and very useful (relatively speaking, naturally) thing to have.

well that's going to be sweet to have a smartlinked bow.. add a rangefinder to that sucker while we're at it

That's what a smartlink does.

Now for the arrows:
What can we add to them?
Micro-Grenades with Air-Burst?

errrrrrrrm... yeah, go ahead and check out the Improved Range Finder on pg. 152 of Arsenal. Reduces range penalties by 1.

Improved Range Finder
-
Rangefinders were included in the Mk. II Smartgun Links. We're now on the Mk. III series, which is wireless!

I see that. I guess I wasn't putting together Improved Range Finder and just a regular range finder.
I'd rather give the smartgun system some vision upgrades, take vision magnification and negate those range penalties altogether.
