Title: Infrno
Post by: John Schmidt on <08-23-11/1439:03>
Networking with other gamers can be problematic, so I recently signed up with Infrno.net. Their player base is still being built up but it might assist people looking for players/GMs/wargames/boardgames. Best of all...it is free!  ;D

I just joined that today. I would love to play in a shadowrun game any nights but wednesday, thursday or sunday. Any chance that you're planning on running one on there?

I have been considering it. Go ahead and send me a friend invite...John Schmidt. My games tend to be smaller, 5 to 4 players, if that works for you.

John:

I joined up there about a week or so ago (actually following up on TheCommanders post).  Any chance you might be looking for another player?

@ AJCarrington

What days do not work for you?

Probably should get an idea where everyone is located...time zones and all that.

I am in Auburn, NY

Located in York, PA (just up the road from Talmonis); Monday, Thursday and Friday nights likely not good for me.

So we are looking at Tuesday or Saturday nights?

Length of game sessions: ??? (I was thinking 4 to 5 hours)
Start Time: ??? (We might have one player 2 hours behind us)
Build Points: ???
Style of Game: ???

Might be looking to post a video or two of the game sessions to my YouTube channel as a "This is what Infrno can/not do"...people alright with that?
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Talmonis on <08-26-11/2307:02>
Should be ok by me, is there a way to hide our actual names on inferno? (Mainly the whole youtube thing... makes me a bit paranoid when my name's on it)

As for night, I'd really recommend Saturday if a session is that long.
Start time, I'd go for around 7 EST if that's ok.
Build points: is 400 standard? If so i'd generally be looking for that.
Style of game is up to you veterans. I've not played shadowrun in a while. (Though i love me some Seattle.)

Hiding the name should be as simple as putting a blur filter on it during editing.

I agree w/ Saturday nights; 8PM would likely be a better start time for me; 400BP sounds good; style...open to just about anything ;)

I am more of the 6-7PM start time, if we are going for a 5-4 hour session.

Saturday, 400 BP.

Also, what kind of game do you intend to run? (So I can build appropriately)

Testimonial Time:

I read this post, headed over to the infrno site, and within a week I had a group and a weekly game set up. I'm currently gm'ing a game for 5 players, and it's going well so far. If other gm's are interested and go over there, I'm definetly up for playing in a game as well, and there are a bunch more players still interested that I couldn't accommodate in my game. So take my word for it, it's a good site ; )

Cheers

I'm in a similar situation, once I get through the next week (and crappy weekend flights), I'm pretty clean through mid-October (when I have to head back again and lose another couple of weekends >:( ).

Welcome to John's little universe. In this universe I routinely get sidetracked by projects. The latest being an interview for YouTube which saw me traveling through PA. Anyway...sorry about spacing this for the last little bit. I am trying to keep on top of everything.  :o

Let us reconvene middle of next week!  :)

I'm in the Hagerstown, MD area as well. My father's work is in Carlisle.  =)

But more on topic, this Infrno dealie seems pretty cool! Does anyone have a review/opinion of their virtual game table?

I know that the dice roller works. Other than that not much experience with it.

On another note, what's everyone looking to play?

Likely a steet sam-type, more shooter than hth.

But more on topic, this Infrno dealie seems pretty cool! Does anyone have a review/opinion of their virtual game table?

So far I've gm'ed for two games using their virtual table app (still in development, I talked briefly with one of the creators) and my opinion is generally positive:

PROs
-All video and audio feeds available at the side, with adjusters for each individual
-Interface has a grid function
-Allows for the upload of images
-Dice roller functional
-Has a set of insertable pre-rendered shapes

CONs
-No copy/paste function (annoying if you want to quickly place out an environment using the pre-rendered shapes)
-Layering of objects is hard to judge
-Can only adjust items by one layer at a time
-Shapes are not very exact; when enlarged the edges are not straight (not really intended to be, but lacking a copy/paste function, would require multiple uploads to construct an exact environment on the fly)

In summary, it works, but like all the map tools and online gaming mediums I've used thus far, has a number of drawbacks. Some of these arise from the inconsistency of the ping of individual members of the gaming group, but a few are simply problems with the interface that a bit more work and polish could iron out. But hey, as a site that allows gamers to both find a group, and play in the same location, it's the best I've found so far.

@ TheCommanders any idea what sort of latency min are you looking at for functionality?

Right now we have Talmonis, AJCarrington, Gleeful, Andy, and Susan that is the max number of people that I feel comfortable running a game for.
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: TheCommanders on <09-06-11/1434:16>
Honestly, I think the problem with the latency was more to due with our individual signal strengths more than the site itself.
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: John Schmidt on <09-06-11/1505:23>
That is normally the case. Since I am not using a wired connection to the net, latency is always a huge issue for me. I was just wondering if you had a feel for when things started to bog down?

Who are you guys on Infrno? I can't find the game.
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Gleeful on <09-06-11/2234:16>
I was thinking a technomancer for my char. If so, she can either be decent at hacking, or not so good at anything at first.
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Talmonis on <09-07-11/0914:35>
I'm thinking i'm going to play either an infiltration specialist/sniper or a smuggler/face. Depending on what the group needs. might even do a combat mage depending on style of game.

The game filled up very quickly, if anything changes though I will be sure to let you know. Thank you for the interest.

So the theory goes like this.

Tentatively shooting for Saturday the 17th at 6:00PM EST, for the first session. I will post the game up on Infrno in the next couple of days. Characters should be emailed to me by Wednesday the 14th.

Location: Seattle
Build Points: 400
Style: Initially at least, you will be contracted by A rated Corporations...starting runs but definately above street level crime.
Bonus Contacts (i.e. everyone has): Desmona (Fixer) and Clockwork (Street Doc).

Note: This is a trial run on Infrno, expect glitches and complications...considering the week that I have had...I know that I am.

Ok sounds good John. I know AJ wants to play a street sam type, and gleeful wants to do a technomancer, but what about the others? (So I can decide what I want.)

I'm definitely doing the techno now. With some rigging on the side (She is pitiful in the meat.) Are we open for anything, John, or 400BP Missions worthy characters?
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: John Schmidt on <09-10-11/1859:21>
Lets try and stick with Missions worthy characters. It looks like Susan wants to be a face and Andy is leaning towards being a rigger. Andy is going to be out of the country on Saturday so I will have a suitable NPC for the part.
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Talmonis on <09-11-11/1634:22>
Ok, i'll be doing a B&E specialist. Former spec-ops. High longarms (desert strike, spas, roomsweeper).  Cybereyes with all the trimmings, wire refs, reaction enhancers, synthacardium, muscle replacement. Plenty of b&e toys, martial arts 1 (krav maga: free action aim). SINner, Erased 2, etc etc
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Gleeful on <09-12-11/2208:48>
Okay wait wait wait waaaait. No mage?
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Talmonis on <09-12-11/2323:51>
Hmm, good point. I can try to make a combat mage. I've never made one before, any pointers?
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Gleeful on <09-12-11/2336:35>
Lots! Mages are my favorite character, generally, but I've been delving back into hacking(deckers were my favorite in 2nd and 3rd editions) which is why I said technomancer.

Are you going mage or shaman? What race? Stealthier combat? If we're making Missions-approved, that means no mind control stuff, but there are still many, many, many very cool spells, foci, and stuff. Fetishes are definitely a plus, too.
Title: Re: Infrno
Post by: Talmonis on <09-13-11/0928:02>
I'm thinking heavy combat shaman. Something along the lines of an elf metal-head, with a weapon focus, and plenty of lightning.

Haven't heard from AJCarrington since the 10th. So his place at the game table is in jeopardy. However, there is a queue of interested players. But I can add you to the list if they aren't available.

At this point the team could really use a street sam.

I guess I should update, due to RL conflicts the game has come to end. However, I can say with confidence, that Infrno actually exceeded my expectations. It is an excellent setup for an online game and once things get squared away I would certainly turn to it again.  :D
