Title: Style
Post by: Lacynth40 on <08-20-11/2351:41>
Well, Attitude has been out for a bit, and no one else has picked this topic up, so I suppose I will.

What do you think the style's would look like. And don't give me any crap about "It's all laid out in the books", I'm asking for creativeness here. And no, it's not all chaotic and personal to the characters or NPCs... (Meta)Humanity is faddish, and even non-conformists dress like the other non-conformists. Let's talk about some of the fads, using the books as a baseboard. Personally, I think that like the 1970's-1990's, goth and goth-punk preceded steampunk fashions. And since steampunk seems to be back in swing (or never went out...), I would like to conclude that cybergoths came a bit after the cyberpunks... And NO cyber-emos! I can't imagine having to try to help that bastard cut right... It's down the motivator line, not across the fibrous bundle....

The main thing about Steampunk is that it keeps a fair bit of the old Punk aesthetic of DIY.  Punk, unfortunately, got marketed and was bought out (Seeing as selling out is not Punk, it had to have been a hostile takeover.).  Steampunk still has a good part of DIY, and that keeps it street, despite being high brow.

If that makes any sense.

Even though you can buy it off the rack right next to the rest of the line by Vashon Island?

Post by: Crash_00 on <08-21-11/0032:21>
I don't have attitude yet, so I can't comment much there.

That said, I still have a very high punk style going in most games for the lower classes.

I also have many of the upper class in the classic roaring twenties gangster getups.

The other style I've been introducing is what I call Slashpunk (dressing up like good old horror flick baddies).

But Thug is so 2050s.  :P

As for Steampunk being marketed, yeah, in 2070.  Today, it's still fairly niche.  See how long that lasts.   >:(

Bit by bit our culture is stolen and sold like any other commodity...

No idea in relation to the Attitude source-book.

But!

I generally throw in a right mix of 70's (http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-ash2/50274_288557233569_1624689_n.jpg) and 80's (http://images.esellerpro.com/2152/I/219/61/medscaleEF-2074_1000.jpg) punk, some goth (http://themindseye.files.wordpress.com/2006/09/gothic.jpg) and cybergoth (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_n7Vt1sT-3_4/S7ZQiWzaHXI/AAAAAAAAIio/kmfr8x0dows/s1600/The_Cyber_Goth_42.jpg) here and there, some horror-inspired stuff (http://www.fearnet.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/201067/DOA_Promo.jpg) which usually finds itself in the street culture.  For my higher-class peeps, a mix of 40's noir (http://obit-mag.com/media/image/Annex%20-%20Greer,%20Jane%20%28Out%20of%20the%20Past%29_02.jpg) and Lady Gaga-isms (http://www.issues.cc/uploads/62782320180.jpg).

I mean, hell, I'm a computer nerd.  "Clean" is high fashion to me.  :P

I think it's safe to say I have zero style myself.  That doesn't mean I can't look at something and go: "Ooooo... spiffy.  Me wants 4 teh Sh4d0wrÜn5"

Ooooo... Pictures is good.... Too bad I suck at Photoshop, or I would start showing some of the stuff in my head... Like, take Fallen's pic of a "cybergoth", and actually cyber her out. The make-up would be programmable nano-tats, hair programmable, too. Eyes would be completely black cybereyes. See about getting carbonfiber coated cyberclaws, so they're glossy black instead of shiny titanium. Reflexes amped, and muscle toner for the agility needed to really shine on the dance floors. Maybe a cyberarm, covered in lace, the other draped with maille. With a Pred 4 on the hip, to keep people from getting too touchy-feely...

I wish I could say that.... I should make a character off my alias... Maximized strength, and an adrenal pump... It shall be done...

I try and put at least a touch of old pulp detective noir in my games.

Well it would help if I had more artistic ability than a dead cat, but I do find art easier on computers than the old fashioned pen and paper route.

And yet I prefer pen and paper games, the powers that be are odd sometimes.
Title: Re: Style
Post by: Lacynth40 on <08-22-11/0112:27>
You have more artistic ability than I do... I once tried to do some digital art, and Photoshop crashed, and deleted itself from my computer... I shrugged, and tried to draw, easel and everything... The easel caught fire. Took up photography, and well... It was bad... I ran out of funny here, and think the joke went too long... But, anyway! I suck at the art, but I can think up some awesome stuff. I just need more ideas for DIFFERENT styles... Like, I doubt a bunch of cholos are hanging in the Barrens rocking steampunk... Gimme ideas!

Have you by any chance played or looked at the video game Brink?

The resistance gear in it reminds me heavily of barrens style gear.

Title: Re: Style
Post by: Crash_00 on <08-22-11/0203:28>
The newest form of babysitting.

Here are some picks of Brink's resistance:
One (http://cdn2.digitaltrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/brink-game-ark.jpg)
Two (http://uberoid.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/brink-game-jump-flee-gunner.jpg)
Three (http://www.glamzzle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Brink2.jpg)
Four (http://gamershavennews.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/brink3.jpg)
Five (http://scrawlfx.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Brink-Cinematic-Trailer.jpg)

The reason I asked was because it has a very in depth clothing customization that I found very SR in flavor.

There are often times I wish I had visual artistic ability instead of just being able to be somewhat of a hack writer.  I have quite a number of ideas.

Also, I see Post Apocalyptic being a "fashion style" for the lower-class and SINless types, which fits nicely with the rich going Steampunk.

Post by: Fallen on <08-22-11/1728:32>
I agree wholeheartedly that having more artistic talent and a heap-load more patience would go a long way for me personally.  I have these ideas in my head I can't seem to get out!

My writing started to get ideas out of my head.  Apparently, it's something that can affect even professional writers, as John Ringo wrote the "Paladin Of Shadows" series.  Well, the first book at least.

Or, as described by many people:  "Guy kills a lot of bad guys and gets a lot of pussy."  and "He collects hookers, like CATS!"

...

*Ashamed Look*  It's one of my guilty pleasures.

Same, really, although I seem to be much more apt in writing lyrics than anything else.

"Ghost" is the first book.  Take into consideration that "Rule Of Cool" is fully in play, as even admitted by the author.

In fact, he's got half a mind to have it all be a dying dream for the protagonist.  But too many fans would complain.

...

He actually never intended for it to be published, actually.

We did Beyond the Thunderdome in SR3 once . .
I made my first REALLY STUPID Troll. Chipjack, Skillwires, Expert-System.
Harness to make a DWARF on the back my metahuman Skill-Soft-Juke-Box.
Also, said Troll had basically the Mean Machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mean_Machine_Angel setup.
Obvious Arm with blades and a dial to set his wired reflexes to make him surly(off/safety on) Mean(single auto), Vicious(burst fire), Brutal(Full Auto)

Said dwarf was played by one of my two GM's.
They switched with playing the dwarf and mastering.
Yes, this made for a REALLY shizo game-play of that setup . .
it was hillarious to me, while the GM's were trying to outdo the other one with crazy shit.
They basically griefed each other and i got to help BOTH of them with that!
Rest of the group had a bit less fun, but eh, usually they went along with it.
Well, not like they had much of a choice anyway . .
Body 18 and STR 16 Troll with 8/8 Armor does get his way. Even if his way is that of the dwarf.

Krunch and Klub are the Kings of the Fastball Special.  They took out five guys in one throw.

Hahaha!  Awesome!  Must've been a blast (or an annoyance, depending on your point of view!)

Why are a lot of the cool kids suddenly living in Canadia?

Canadia is a staple of coolness, if you know where to look!  Otherwise, well, it's really nothing special.  But Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto (Winnipeg, I think, has a solid hobby community) are kind of neat and fun.  Montreal is also known to drawn in the freaks (in a way that's dissimilar to Vancouver), so we kind of get to be less timid about ourselves in general.

I wish I lived in Canadia.  It's stressful being American.

I unno, I guess!  My brother is working in the U.S, in Redmond to boot!  Microsoft things... he's got some brains, my brother does.  I so need to visit him soon, if only to get to see what the actual Seattle is like.

It's stressful being a Canuck too.  Especially as one of the few members of sanity we had in government just died of cancer.  :(
