Title: GMing extra: Corps/Industry poster
Post by: StarManta on <07-17-11/1913:09>
I've created a poster that's pretty handy for linking industries to the corps that run them. The text in each box contains a list of subsidiaries of each company in that industry.

(This is of course a much reduced size version. The real one is a ~1GB Photoshop file at 10800x7200...)

Basically, I ran through the Corp Guide, listed all the corps with subsidiaries in each major industry, and linked them up with the logos of each corp. If you need to find an industry where Aztech competes against NeoNET because those are the major players in your campaign, this is the fastest way to find that. (Incidentally, it looks like Security is the only one those two overlap on.)

I'm mostly posting to this board to get feedback before I spend money getting it screened onto an actual poster. Specifically:
A) Are there any important listings of subsidiaries and so on the the Corp Guide doesn't cover?
B) Are there higher-res logos for the megacorps available? Or better yet, vector graphics for them? I couldn't find any online, and had to basically screenshot them out of the PDF.
C) Does anyone know of a place that can print posters at good prices? The best a cursory Google came up with was $15 for 24x36.
D) Related: What's Catalyst's stance on selling fan art of this sort?

O.o

o.O

O.O

That looks awesome, but damn it gives me a headache!  The full size would probably do me much better.  So much small print and my poor eyes...

...

I also just realized I had a headache all day, so that might be it as well.

I think a 5000x3500 would be fine. that's DIN A3 in European measure, so about a double page.
I'd like one...

That is a really nifty poster.

There are some Corp logos here:

Kinda low-res, though.

As far as the legality, Topps so far has stated they don't mind fan websites.

That said, the limited fan license pretty much only extends to making fan material, hosting on your website, and possibly printing it out to give to friends. Selling the material is likely to be a no-no.

*Chuckles*  So, when is NeoNet going to get a new name?  :P

Yeah, those are lower res than a lot of the ones I grabbed from the PDF. Also, they're from the last edition (lol, CAT). Though, I do prefer Renraku's old logo. The Mandelbrot set has always had a special place in my cold, dead husk of a heart.

The only real issue with getting the bigger one out is distribution. The only reasonable way to do it would be to host a torrent. And...mrr.... effort and bandwidth....

Here's a cutout sample of it at full resolution. You can see at this resolution why I want high-res logos....
(The only reason I went that high with the DPI's is for the small text. Everything else looks the same at somewhat lower resolutions.)

I'd be down with this.

As I said, you don't have to distribute the 1gig file. honestly, nobody needs this. A printed double page size is enough for the average man out here. I can't imagine the text size being smaller than a 10 at 5000X3500, 300dpi. And the file size will be good for any public hoster

Send me a copy via my email: FastJack@mattdroz.com. I'll see about hosting it on my webspace.

GMail is limited to 25 MB attachments. If you could give me a temporary FTP login or something I could do that?

Selling it is bad, giving it away for free is good. I just actually had this discussion recently and was informed that adding:
"This is freely distributed, fan-made material. Shadowrun is a registered trademark of The Topps Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved."
is a good idea (without the quotes obviously).

That said, here there may actually be an issue, and I'd suggest contacting: info@shadowrun4.com with your question. The issue that I could see cropping up is
that the corporate logos could be considered trademarks and land you in trademark infringement territory. While it would be incredibly stupid for Topps to
prosecute a fan for making fan material with logos related to the game world, I've seen companies do dumber things.

I only bring this up, because I specifically asked about using a certain logo in my discussion and was informed not to. That said, it could widely vary from image to
image whether or not Topps has bothered to trademark it.

Another issue that could come up, although I doubt it would and if it did I don't think they'd have a case at all, could be trade dress infringement if you try to give
out as an "official" file. It looks well done and uses the logos at a high resolution, but it doesn't really resemble what Catalyst typically does with their material so
I don't think it would be a serious issue.
