The new Knight Errant interceptor can be found here,
http://www.youtube.com/user/MacAttack001?feature=mhee (http://www.youtube.com/user/MacAttack001?feature=mhee)
Ok...it is actually a review of the Warthog Scout from Antenocitis Workshop but it is painted up in the KE colors. ;D
Hope you enjoy!

I like that. Mind if I steal it? Since it's designed by someone else, I'll likely have the design modified a bit so it's not a blatant ripoff. But at some point, I want to introduce in Missions Ares' replacement for the Lone Star Patrol 1 for Knight Errant. :) Probably in the one I'm working on now.

Absolutely Bull, glad to be of service although the real kudos should go to Antenociti's Workshop. :)
I guess that I should note that the finished pics of my version are towards the end of the video.
-
In my SR games I was thinking of calling it the KE Lancer.
-
Lancer could work. If it was an APC style item, however, I'd suggest Dragoon instead.
-
That is not a bad idea for an APC name. I like that. You are becoming my go-to-guy for ideas CanRay. ;D
-
*Shrugs* Just came across a bit of the RCMP's military history and found out that, technically, they're a military unit of Dragoons. They mostly provide MP duty today, however.
Give me some time to find out a few more "Knightly" names and I could easily come up with more, however. ;D Back in the days of my youth I always wanted to be a researcher and/or librarian. But, well, life changed those dreams quite quickly.
Another suggestion is that you take Calvary Officer's names for vehicles, and make them match the styles and personalities of those people. Fits with Ares and their semi-militaristic culture, and fits in well with what people expect from them as well, being an "Extension" of the UCAS/CAS military who already do the same thing.
-
Yeah, I had been trying to think of names for it, "Knight" related. I really was tempted to steal the Charger Name, but since Dodge is a part of Chrysler, and Chrysler-Nissan made the Patrol 1, I half assume that they're not one of teh car companies that Ares owns (I'd put them under one of the Japanacorps umbrellas, probably MCT).
Lancer is a good one, though it too was a Dodge branded car (Though the last Dodge Lancer was produced in '89, so it's slightly less associated with Dodge than the Charger name).
There's a part of me that really wants to do SR versions of a few classic brand cars as well... I'd love to see a 2073 era Mustang and Corvette, for example. (Hrmm, who owns Chevy now? GMC is still active, and Chevy is a brand under their umbrella...)

-
I had forgotten about the Dodge Lancer...not a Dodge fan here...so back to the drawing board. LOL
-
The Mustang name is no longer owned by Ford, they sold it to Nissan. ("From The Shadows").
Interceptor, eh? "Skirmisher" might be a suggestion. "Kassai" as well (It's a type of Mounted Archer style of training.) or "Keshik" (A Mongolian style of mounted warrior.). "Cossack" for an obvious reason. A long-range version of this (For highway patrol) could be a "Bedouin".
Moving away from the militaristic terms, "Wolfhound" is another nice option and very fitting for something that hunts after the "Wolves of Man". "Armenian Gampr" might be a good option working on that for a variant designed for Urban Patrol (They're a livestock guardian dog).
Hope that gives you some more ideas.
-
Cerebus? The two headed hound...much like the twin turrets on this vehicle. Sadly I think that name is already taken in SR...having a brain fart though and can't remember what has it.
-
I think we're at a point where just about anything we want to use will have been taken at some point, or be completely off the mark/theme. Some of CanRay's ideas aren't bad, they start falling away from the Knight theme and into simple "Horsemen" concept.
I think Lancer or Charger is a fair cop. If the Mustang name can be sold to Nissan, then why can;t Ford-Ares buy up Lancer, Charger, or another. And again, who owns Chevy, any idea? (I need to dig out RIgger 3 and see if they cover that at all) If it's not defined, we can always say Ares does. I can see them buying up pretty much all the old Detroit-based Car Manufacturers to consolidate them.
Personally, I'll likely use Charger. :)

Also, I really wish i still had this list... There was a list of Real Life companies and who owned them that had been done up for an old APA called Scrawls from the Sprawls from the early 90s that my old GM was a part of. I wish I still had copies of them, some great stuff in there. Steve Kenson wrote the original up, as I recall.
-
Cerberus has three heads.
(http://thanasis.com/cerberus2.jpg)And it was the Internet name for the dragon with a Datajack.
Bull's got the right bit about buying up copyrighted names.
Personally, I see a comeback for the Plymouth Fury as a Police Squad Car, just because of it's name. :P It might be under the Daimler name now, however. Or an alternative for the C-N Patrol-1 (Budget version? Highway Interceptor?).

If moving to Knight-theme, why not base the entire line of Vehicles of medieval weaponry/armour? Could be good for Knight Errant PR and advertising:
- Saving Damsels in distress
- Slaying Dragons :P (OK, Lofwyr and others may be annoyed by that one)
- Implied code of honour
Chevalier is your general purpose term for a historical Knight-errant, and the name would suit any general purpose armoured vehicle
Destrier to denote a type of transport, probably a standard patrol car or motorbike
Shield for something beefy
Longsword/Broadsword for a standard patrol vehicle
Battle-Axe/Greataxe for a Citymaster/Riotmaster equivalent (one with Water-Cannon, the other with MMG's)
etc

I can dig it, a Knight Errant Chevalier Armored Interceptor, Dragoon Urban Superiority Gunships (I'm picturing less guns than CS and other suppressive weapons on a heli- with communications and tacnet distribution), Steed Rapid Response Motorcycles, Corsair Amphibious/Hover/Coastal Vessels.
It's got a fluff to it.
-
Hmm...for some reason I keep thinking the Knight Errant Bulwark (others that popped in my head were Redoubt and Bastion). It just seems more like a fortress than a single knight.
That said, vehicle names are covered by Trademark Laws (while inner workings can be patented and manuals can be copyrighted). Trademarks that fall out of use (ie are no longer being used by the company) can be snapped up by other companies just by paying the trademark registration fees (which are much more significant than copyright fees).
-
hmmm.
I was thinking about Morningstar...
Crusader would be too politicaly incorrect, the same goes with Templar, buzt maybe Paladin...still this sounds more like a KE rank than a vehicle
You may use the name Veillantif (or Vegliantin, idn which version of the name you would prefere as english speaking), the trully archetyp of chivalry horse, that belonged to Count Roland, knight at the court of Charlemagne...
For APC ...Sleipni comes to my mind, Odins eight legged horse..
Percheron is a horse breed possibly originating from medieval war-horses
maybe there is some possibility to find some references even for names of some famopus war-charriots, but that goes beyond my knowledge
-
I would point a few things out. First, KE is trying to keep up and or create a good public image. Having a vehicle that sounds warlike kind of goes against that. People are funny like that. They tend not to like having the law come around (unless they are the ones who need help) and most of the time think the law are overly opperessive anyway so using vehicles that sounds like they come from a war sim don't help.
Something like Regulator, Vigilant, Dauntless, or Sentinel gets the point across without sounding too aggressive. You need a kinder, gentler heavy hand; at least that's what I think the PR people would say. Remember, the ones who use these things are not soliders, but beat cops. So save the badass or cute names for those machines that need to be intimidating.
Sorry if this is a bit of a buzzkill; but it's just the thoughts of a poor beat cop.

I was working with that "Knight" association...protection of the weak, bringing justice to the people and fighting evil...mainly romantic stereotypes far beyond the horizont of reality, but still, most of names like that would be PR edge...well...except that Odins horse...there is little romantic in Norse tradition...:)
-
How about:
Cataphract (might be a little obscure for most)
Belisarius (not quite in the tradition)
Crockett (that old-time UCAS heart-tugger)
. . . .
blanking on possibles now . . .

1) +1 :)
2) Did you mean this: Belisarius (http://www.imdb.com/company/co0114905/)<<< there should be some consequences...
3) too far from my cultural tradition to understand :)
-
1) Thanx
2) I was thinking of the Byzantine general rather than the production company
3) Yeah, well, depends how much Ares wants to pander to UCAS - or CAS - national mythology
-
2) nods... ;D
but...
maybe KE officers studied NCIS at the beginning of their carrier...and maybe outhere is Jethro Gibbs on the SIM somewhere...if you want to commit the crime, his insight should come handy...even after those years :)
-
Beaucephalus (BYOO-sef-AL-us) - The steed of Alexander the Great (and rumoured to have had a peacock's tail as part of some supernatural gift... don't ask why, it's a legend, OK?)

Jethro Gibbs is a Spike Free Spirit . . .
-
Random name ideas:
1) Keincaled (Gringolet) - Gawain's horse
2) Paladin - Just 'coz
3) Charger, Chevalier, Cavalier
4) Quester, Steed, Wanderer
Good review of the model too.
-
Well since it has to have some impact on uneducated massess in barrens also, you could use something more fammiliar to them...like...
Streetsweeper
Thugbuster
Thrashmover
Calmer :)
Crimecrusher :o

Jethro Gibbs is a Spike Free Spirit . . .
Explains how he beat a Terminator bare handed...

Well, after we saw what his student, Chuck Norris, is capable of, it didn`t surprised me...

*ahem*
Bruce Lee taught Jethro Gibbs and Chuck Norris. They are blood brothers and rivals (much like Ryu and Ken).
