Many of you are familiar with my ArtAttack threads over at DS. I figured I'd share the love and bring it over to the Official Forums!
How does it work? Simple. You post a character description. I draw it. Easy-peasy.
However, there are a few ground rules:
1. Please describe ONE character per post.
2. Please describe what they look like. Do not post an entire character build. (ex. "Carries two modified Ares Predators" = good. "has 15 fake SINs and buys soykaff mochas every morning" = bad (unless you want me to draw them with coffee cup)
3. All art will be SKETCHES. The point of this thread is to see how fast I can draw and I limit myself to 1 hour per sketch. Most clock in around 30 - 45 minutes.
4. Please be patient. Sketches will be done on a "first come, first serve" basis. Also, I'm running the same thread on DS right now.
Let the ArtAttack™ begin!

Ooh, let me in on the fun.
Toshiro Takahashi (Operator)
History:
A former security officer and native-born citizen of the Japanese empire. During his history of employment with Mitsuhama Computer Technologies, Toshiro worked hard to reinforce the safety of what he believed was his company's most valuable assets - its people. While his tour of duty within the armed forces was helpful in securing an initial foothold within MCT, Toshiro's work ethic and mannerisms allowed him to not only retain his job, but to excel and even earn a promotion.
Unfortunately, this would not last forever. Disgraced in April 2061 through the scheming of a jealous rival, Toshiro drafted a letter of resignation. He signed the document with his name in blood, using a letter opener to draw out precious red ink from his finger. Having completed his jihyo, Toshiro quickly departed his Kyoto office and sought out passage to North America through Yakuza channels. If nothing else, they were understanding of his reasons to leave.
Operator has worked in the shadows for at least a decade, scraping together what nuyen he could to make a living. While familiar with the Seattle shadow scene, he made a few enemies while learning the ropes; recent harassment from the Halloweeners prompted Operator to destroy his Wraith persona and start anew. Currently holed up in Auburn with the working stiffs of Seattle, Operator has the dubious honor of calling a sparsely decorated warehouse his home.
Physical appearance:
Operator is an individual of average human height (5'7" or 170cm). His body is wiry and resilient, reflecting his physical training, innate agility, and overall sound health. Echoes of his military background are evident in the short black hair on his head. While longer than regulation length, his hair remains to be quite short. Easier to clean that way.
His posture and alertness are hallmarks of a natural born leader, one who would lead his subordinates by example. There is a particular charm about Toshiro which makes him amicable, or at the very least deserving of respect. He projects a friendly and sociable demeanor, which helps to draw attention away from the thousand yard stare in his brown eyes.
Operator looks younger than his date of birth (2031) would suggest.
Clothing and gear:
Depending on which time period you wish to imagine, Operator will generally be dressed in whatever lets him blend in with the crowd instead of stand out. He has not yet made a name for himself.. well, not the sort you'd be proud of.
2060: Business clothing (MCT security supervisor) or tactical armored vest, fatigues, boots, and armaments (corporate SWAT team leader). His position required him to be able to equally play nice and/or naughty.
2070: Street wear consists of a lined coat or duster worn over bullet-resistant trousers and a t-shirt of some kind. Plain solid colors, floral patterns, or 20th century metal band logos are all options. If Operator has to play the role of a well dressed face, he'll break out the expensive Actioneer business clothing.
His preferred weapon is the HK MP5 SD submachine gun, but he can make use of nearly any firearm.

Welcome to Isengard!
er... sorry, been watching too much LotR with the extended Blu-ray release.
Welcome to the official forums, kenshi! And thanks for bringing the art with you. If you got the time, I'd recommend my PC Mercedes (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=73.msg585#msg585) from my PbP games. Latina elf, social adept, dresses for success. ;)

Hiya and welcome,
I would love to have a sketch of my phys ad, Lang Xao.
Description:
5'9", 190 pounds, well muscled, classic mesomorph build. Hair is long and black. Numerous tattooes on his body, located as follows:
Right Arm: Dragon
Left Arm: Tiger
Right Leg: Snake
Left Leg: Mantis
Chest(front): Crane(upper), Raidon(lower)
Chest(back): Panther(upper), monkey(lower)
Style of dress tends to be fairly simple, either t-shirt and jeans, or a dark colored mandarin style suit.
Honestly when I envisioned the character initially I though of Liu Kang from the Mortal Combat movie, but instead of rocking the mullet, long hair tied back.
Thanks

Hank is a bodybuilding 65years old dwarf adept. He is terrified about getting too old and would do anything too keep looking young (like being in a gym several hours a day). He tends to wear tight clothes and sleeveless shirt (douche style !) to show off how muscular and cut he is. Being a first generation Dwarf, he's very close to the stereotype : Average (for a dwarf) height and quite bulky. His beard tend to change according to his moods but most of the time it's according to the latest trend. He's also quite a brain, having served as a Combat Medic in a UCAS military for over 40 years. As far as combat goes, he's a very skilled Boxer, being involved in numerous underground fighting networks.
PS : Great idea ! I would love to have the skills required to pull anything close to this :)

First up...
Operator for... Operator
This one took me about 35 minutes (not counting finding reference picks for a HK MP5).

Chrona is a very large Orc Ghoul. Infected at a very young age (5), he spent the next 20 years training his body, strength and magic to it's peak. His height is often compared to trolls but despite his muscular build he doesn't match their width. He stands and sits straight, avoiding the stereotypical haunched ghoul appearance an average feral gives. His teeth and tusks have been sharpened by the mutation, as well as his skin left pale white an his body hairless. His eyes are white from the loss of sight.
He wears a zipped up lined coat and matching trousers, usually with no shoes or gloves to leave access to his claws. He is a skilled unarmed opponent but his forte is Hermetic Spirits and spellcasting.
He uses Elementals in ingenious ways and prefers manipulation spells, especially mind controlling spells and his own brand of shadow controlling spells.
After tempo hit the streets e successfully trained himself to be a chemist to further augment his Runnng resume.

Okay, here we go:
Fractal is an elf who some years ago became a Changeling (Class II SURGE). He is very youthful and a really charismatic individual, who likes to be regarded as a guerrila artist; he wants to provide the world with aesthetic experiences, awakening them to see the boring and life-devoid life most of them live in.
He is of average build (his enhanced muscles don't show), and his most peculiar characteristics are his hair and eyes: his hair has a distinct metallic quality, being silver-tinted in a way. It is currently kept long, usually on a braid for convenience. Since he SURGEd, his eyes become mirrored globes, whose chromatic aberration affects that are most often than not encircling it were responsible for his handle.
He usually wears leather overcoats and silk red shirts. Red is also the chosen color of his bandanas (that hides his trode nets; there's no way Fractal will ever corrupt his body with cyberware). Filling the roles of both Face and Hacker (being a quite competent digital artist), it's not unusual for him to carry googles to interact with the matrix.

"A tall elf walked into the room. He had black long hair, tied behind his head, dark sunglasses rest on his pointy ears. He wore a black duster above a rugged looking brown leather armored jacket, zipped halfway up. Wearing cargo pants in a greyscale camo silhouette equipped with many straps and buckles. Black gloves covered his hands. His sleeves folded back, revealing a roughly tattooed Siberian tiger on his left arm, and similarly tattooed on his right arm a dagger with two snakes wrapped around it."
He usually wield a couple of dual clip P93 Preator submachine guns with suppressors and slings. Half-face gas mask would work too. Theres room for grenades, AR overlay, and electronics (such as commlinks or sensors in hand held packages).

This one took me about 35 minutes (not counting finding reference picks for a HK MP5).
Are you shitting me? Damn it. That is awesome.

Edited July 7.
At first glance, you're not entirely sure how old he is. Looking like a very intense 30 year old, he acts like an older man sometimes but has the intensity of the young. Close cropped black hair, slightly asian features--probably of mixed parentage--with natural green eyes. There's a hint of a grin on his lips even when he's being serious. Around these streets they call him "Doc Uzi" on account of the white longcoat and the grey urban explorer jumpsuit he wears underneath. He has a medkit slung across his back and a massive pistol on his hip (Machine Pistol, FN-57C, p. 22 Arsenal). Once, I saw him carrying an actual Smartgun slung across on his back, dangling to the sides (Ingram Smartgun X, SR4A p318) but that was a really bad 'hood--had a gang problem. Emphasis on 'had'.
He sets up a clinic once a week or so, different neighbourhoods and stays most of the day. Free of charge. Oh he doesn't turn down the odd donation, it goes right into buying more supplies. Wouldn't know it by looking at him, but he's a wizzer. Could be making big bucks at a hospital--any hospital--with the spells he knows.
(Half-asian, half-caucasian man, early 30s. Ex-merc. Close-cropped hair "caesar style", faint five o'clock shadow, almost always looking like he's grinning or about to. Carries an FN-57C openly in bad neighbourhoods (quickdraw holster on right hip) with an SMG of some kind hidden underneath his longcoat. He wears a grey Urban Explorer Jumpsuit, carries a medkit or two.
Fetishes:
Combat - beaded amulet of roughly hewn stones
Health - two, one right pinky ring of indeterminate material; the other a corded leather bracelet worn on the left wrist.
Manipulation - two, both upper arm bands of matte silver on each arm. (twisting or coiling designs)
It's how I picture him, he has no name other than "Doc Uzi" on the streets. Amnesia, and so forth. Feel free to take liberties!)

Zizi is a 19 year old Orc female ex combat biker of French descent, with a bit of north-african thrown in. She's 1m85 (about 6'1", 6'2" I think), about 90-95 kgs (195-205 pounds) and she has brown eyes (cybernetic) and brown hair, cut short so it fits better under a helmet. She's quite good looking for an Orc (making her the darling of the trids when she was still active). She often wears biker leathers in the colours of her old biking team (the Paris Chavaliers, wearing red-white and featuring a black unicorn on the shoulder patch).

Kenshi, this is an awesome idea, and best of luck to you in your sketching challenge :)
I'd love to participate, but my primary PC is a shapechanging free spirit, so a sketch is pretty irrelevant ;)
Absolute best of luck to you, mon ami, and welcome to the forum! :D

good to see an artist on the boards, because my art skill is in the negatives
BW302 (Black Wolf 302)
BW302 is a big foot wolf shaman. he pretends to be a shaggy troll minus horns, so he wears troll-sized clothes. He wears an armored jacket and goggles, along with cheap commlink.
He carries an acoutic guitar.
Around his neck is a set of dogtags.
is that enough?
-
Silverferret (or just Ferret)
Ferret is a CAS Ferret Special Forces hacker. his main commlink is in his head. He wears an armored vest and heavy missions an armed jacket. His weapons include ares predator, ares alpha, narcjet pistol, and a survival knife. Military style hair cut. early 20s.
his icon is a ferret.
if wondering, I play & run at local conventions & I try to either fill gaps or have a character to backup other PCs without having too many of one type in a group.
just wondering, how close to Columbia, SC do you live?

A round of applause for you, Kenshi. That is fantastic work.

SKETCH ALERT!
Sorry for the lack of sketches. The 4th of July holiday kicked my hoop. But I'm back with a new sketch of Mercedes for our dear moderator FastJack! (P.S. - FastJack, I loved all of the Firefly references in the character bio.)
This piece took me about 50 minutes; about 15 mins of thumbnail sketching to get the pose right and another 35 to make the final art. I'm actually pretty proud of this one...
-
Appreciate this Kenshi, never did get around to throwing a character your way on the DS forums when you started there, felt like I was mooching. :D Still feels like mooching mind you!
Genevieve "Noise" Galipolova
Noise is a human, she stands at a shortish 5'5", with a very lithe yet strong frame, augmented through bioware alone. She's of Russian decent and has the characteristics of an eastern Russian (Vladisvostok blood) She dyes her naturally black hair with red streaks. around the temples. Her eyes are a steely grey in colour that have seen too much in the past.
Equipment wise: Her primary weapons are a pair of matched monofiliment rapiers (note: not epee's, she's not a fencer, you'd be surprised how many people think people fence with rapiers) with very basic handles. She also carries a heavily modified steyr TMP machine pistol, and has a modified Ares Alpha for more long distance fights. When running she dresses in the Steampunk line overcoat and corset. She also wears a pair of goggles which provide her with smartlink and other visual capabilities.

Since Kenshi didn't link to it, I will: http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=35281 (http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=35281)
More awesome art, over on a similar thread on DS.

Just checked the new one and the ones over at DS. Wow, full of character and done in under 1 hr?
+1 sir.

SKETCH ALERT!
Sorry about the lack of activity yesterday but I was working on this. (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=3250.msg56548#msg56548)
Anyways, here is Nakano's character, Lang Xao
Sketch time about 40 minutes (5 for thumbnailing poses, 35 for sketch). It was fun to draw a really dramatic pose.
-
Thank you very much sir. Perfect. Very much appreciated.
-
Since your art is awesome I will humbly ask a sketch too! It's for one of my players actually.
The name of the Char is Paul Crown a former priest of the Chatolic Roman Church. Quite tall, around 1,8m, and well shaped as he is used to do a lot of movement. Most of times he wears only a pair of leather pants and nothing more no shirt no jackets. Short black hairs and a sort of perpetual grin on his face. He has a Roman Cross tatooed on his back and an Holy Virgin on his right Arm\Shoulder. Katana as favored weapon and gold cross around his neck as "Amulet".
Awakened Char too... Thanks for your time!

Very nice work so far, tagged for future reference and maybe a "comission".

Heh... finally got the attachments turned on for Global Moderators so I can see the pic.
DAMN! That's good. I got a personal request I PM'd ya.

Well, I suppose I'll throw my hat in.
Fourscore, a Human Face from Chicago always seen with two Hammerli 620S's and his signature "Buzz Off" Chicagoland shirt.
Big ol' grin, lined coat, and proud of his data jack so the hair is flipped to one side away from the shaved spot for it.
-
I've got a character that I've played since 2nd edition that is ex-special forces from the CAS. I've got a decent picture of him, but he's got a tattoo that is
very unique and I can't seem to do it justice.
If you'd be interested in sketching the tattoo, it's: A Penguin firing an M-22A2, smoking a stogy with an old WWII style combat helmet kicked back on his head. The
penguin has a tattoo on its flap with a red shield and C.A.S. stamped across it.

Tommy "Knuckles" MacMurgatroy.
Not the largest Troll out there, Tommy is a full-time made man and VR eraser (he's a technomancer) for the Leo McCaskill mob. Fully decked in 1920's style Berwick line suits, FFBA, and a full set of PPP pads (including a helmet "disguised as a wide brimmed fedora with the brim slightly turned up where the horns wrap around) he looks bigger than he really is. A middle aged troll, his red, oiled ponytail shows streaks of grey which highlight his common charcoal pants, charcoal coat, red shirt combination.
They don't call him Tommy Knuckles because uses his knuckles for much of anything, they call him Tommy Knuckles because that's where he starts when it's time to get out the circular saw and start asking questions. ;)

Polaris "Hi-Jack" Astrum is a Seattle raised Ork. Well actually he's a Human with the Ork Wannabe quality, being human that close to the docks was starting to get him in trouble with the Ragers, so his siblings bought him some fake tusks and taught him to wear his hair in orkish looking dreadlocks. Why Orks have a human sibling is an odd story.
Even during a run he's always seen wearing his Lennon style circular shades and toothy friendly grin. There have been occasion where that's all he's got on actually. Fortunately in this pic he's wearing a loosely fitted T-shirt (with a Star logo on the shoulder) and if it's not a bust shot, Cargo Pants. He's pretty scrawny, especially for someone that looks like an Ork.

I've been traveling before, and unable to post. Just by now I saw Kenshi's art, and I must join the clapping chorus: your sketches are really amazing, omae! Keep the good work!
