Title: Showing off
Post by: Bull on <06-22-11/2237:08>
These made it to the Con...  Special editions of the new GM screen designed exclusively for members of the Catalyst Demo Team!  Very nice, and pretty sharp looking.  :)

So, what rating Agent are you?  And are you running yourself on that beat-up old Cyberdeck?

Very nice... who do I have to bribe/blackmail/kill to get one of those?  :P

Just go here (http://catalystdemos.com/) to begin the process to become a member of the team.

Speaking of which, I really need to get off my ass and send in the paperwork...

I used to Demo for another company long ago, but it's become painfully aware to me that no one seems interested in Shadowrun in this city.  :(

Ok, so I normally post "in character" (it's fun^^) but I gotta be OOC on this one. Wow thats a sweet screen. I have worked at my FLGS for 14 (wow) years now, and when I started we sold just as much Shadowrun product as D&D. In recent years though I have seen a steep decline in sales and intrest in one of my "holy trinity of RPG" systems. I have looked over the demo team app and would really love to join, and run all the missions. However in my area Boise ID, even te Pathfinder rep has only managed to get enough members to run around three sessions. I guess I need advice here. How do you get intrest in your local area? I plan on posting fliers in-store for the first event Friday (even though I'm not yet a demo team member, my store sponcers lots of gaming events so the store will pay staff to run non-sanctioned events) these will be posted at least 1 month in advance of the event as per store event policy. (I would do it on Thursday, but IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!)

Maybe it's just the area I live in, but it seems that if it's not Magic, or war machine or warhammer, we have a hard time getting people involved.... <mutters about these fragging kids and their nintendos>
Sorry for the wall of text here, I'm just really at a loss.

Thanks Chummers!

Wish I'd gotten back into all this a few months ago... could have tried to join the demo team... there's a big con coming up soon about 40 mins away  :(  Would love to demo SR at something like that lol

C'est la vie, I guess

Unfortunately, the local cons have gotten rather...  Bad.

One made all gamers decidedly unwelcome due to politics.   >:(

That definately sucks.  It's been a while since I'd gone to the one con we have around here, but I'm planning to go this year.  Primarily comics, but there is occasionally some gaming going on.  Since we just lost our one decent game store in the area, I have to find new ways to get my fix lol

I'll be honest, I don't know exactly what you need to do to "earn" one of these through normal CDT channels, but I know Southpaw has a great big pile of them, and that "regular" (aka, non-Origins/Gen Con) Agents can get them.  You might need to have a certain number of events under your belt or something first though.  But if you sign up to be an Agent and can run some events, you should be eligible for one.  (I'll see about getting more deets when I see Southpaw later).

What about us really stupid bastards that just run all kinds of events without signing up as an Agent?   ;D

Pretty much, Yeah.

So go sign up, ya dumb bastiches :)

Also....  Con is going great.  Most of our games are sold out.  Scramble went fairly well, though had a low turn out.  But we had some GREAT support, and there's something to be said for a game with 16 players and nearly as many NPCs. Echo Chernik, Nigel Sade, and Amy Michelenka really helped step the game up a notch (Echo and Sade decorated up this aquarium Alligator skull we were using for a prop with tattoos, gold pain, feather, and Echo was selling it as a magic focus.  It looks amazing.).

Special props go to Finn Hardy, Jason's son.  He played Pip the Ork Underground Street Urchin, and he just went nuts and had a great time acting as a "guide" for the PCs.

Everyone had a blast, which was the best part.  I'll try and post some pics tonight if I get te chance and am not out too late and/or too drunk,

I met Echo at Heroes Con, and yeah, she is really cool. I told her how much I can't wait for her to one day draw < CENSORED >. We also sang the praises of ... Someone. ;p

The Abq Comics Expo going on right now has a whole gaming area, but even if I did run something as hoc right now (which it seems you can do) the only Missions games I am familiar enough with to consider running aren't technically out yet. And the next con is during Gen Con, but there is another at the end of August. However I don't know what their policy is. This is the first ACE, but Bubonicon is celebrating #43 this year with a steampunk theme (yes, last year was based on Douglas Adams). Then there will be another Abq Comic CON run by a whole OTHER group of retailers and such in January.

It seems that Albuquerque is a great place to be a nerd, geek, or other outside of the fact that it's been over 100° every day this month. Also, fuck the Poles for making me wait an extra two weeks to kiss George R.R. Marten's ass by giving him some national award this same weekend as ACE.

I'd sign up in a moment if it weren't for the lack of decent Cons here, not to mention the, um, "politics" of the FLGSes here that causes problems.

Try posting at the library.  Also the local bookstore.  Talk to some of the kids that are playing D&D and see if they might be interested.

My favorite way to get D&D players was to ask them if they'd like to shoot a dragon with a bazooka.

Advertise. Crowds gather around crowds. patience and persistence.

I regularly posted in appropriate forums, posted fliers, talked to FLGS etc.

The most important thing is I showed up every month to GM. Got out the books, and pimped SRM. (And an excuse to hang out at your FLGS for a block of time is never something to turn down.)

For the first few months I co opted my normal group and had them show up and play. Therefore new players didn't have to come in as a group, or make sure they had enough people.  My peeps would fill out a table. :)

If you don't have peeps, see if another demo agent is in the area and you can provide mutual support.

So they're only LGSes, and decidedly not Friendly.

That reminds me. I never got around to setting up a signing/demo date with my LCS since I haven't been to my LCS in a while before the street date for Spy Games got announced. Then again, I haven't been back long and damn I missed some stuff (like that the state is ON FIRE).

No, some are pretty friendly, just not very open to new games in the clientele.

The Cons here were better, but after "DramaCon" where I was told, flat out by one of the people in charge of the Con that "This isn't a gaming convention, there is no room for that here.", and the Fan-Based Room designed for gaming was shut down, the death knell for my Demos went right out the window.

That reminds me of Adam Carolla's book. "And then she uttered the motto of shitty businesses everywhere: 'Oh, everybody is always asking for that.' " Then maybe accomodate the fucking fans once in a while.
