Title: Ghoul communities
Post by: benhatt on <06-13-11/2253:59>
Are there books out there detailing ghoul communities?  Like a group of ghouls who have retained their intelligence and operate a sort of ghoul town.  Is there anything about Seattle specifically?

Bug City deals, in small part, with the ghoul community of Chicago during that city's occupation by insect spirits that were running amok there during the 50s.

There's a country of them in Africa, Asamando.  6th World Almanac has the details on it.

In Seattle 2072 there's a small bit about a Ghoul community that Brackhaven knows about. It's just in the comments by the Jackpoint posters though, a small tidbit.

Asamando even has a short story leading up to that section in the Almanac.

And the Feral Cities book deals with mention of Human Trafficking to Asmondo. And yes, it's what you are thinking on several levels

Thanks for the info.  I was thinking of having my players go up against a "Mayor of Ghoul Town" sort and didn't know what was set up there.

Snake Plissken:  "Who's the Duke?"
Random Street Person:  "The Duke? The Duke of Ghouls, A-Number-1, the Big Eater, that's who!"

Just remember with the way that infection is written pretty much any PC that gets clawed, bitten or even possibly exposed too much to ghouls is pretty much going to become one.  There is a thread on the subject with possible modifications to make it less of a serious threat.  Some preparation and inoculation might keep that from happening.  Just something to think about when dealing with ghouls.

I bet you could find a community of Ghouls in either of the Barrens in Seattle.  Those two just seem to me to be places they would hide.

This idea reminds me of the great Ravenloft adventure Night of the Walking Dead.  Love that adventure so much ran it 3 times as a DM!  Check it out for inspiration!  Good stuff!

Definitely the Barrens, with maybe the more refined ones hanging out at a club near Touristville.

I've read the other thread about modifying the ghoul rules.  I like the idea of fluid transfer, keeping it to a bite or whatnot.  If it takes a mere scratch then you're talking one hell of a baddie.  On the other hand, having the runners slog through the sewers in full riot gear/combat armor reminds me of something out of Kirkman's Walking Dead.  Definitely a place to play up the description/tension.  Breath fogging up the visor, sweat making everything stick, only a flashlight or low-light vision enhancements.  Mix a little horror into the run.

I haven't thought about Ravenloft in years! I'll have to see if I can find a copy of Night of the Walking Dead.  Thanks for the suggestion.
