So I've been thinking of the Awakening and its effect on the world and its reiligions and faiths, and have come up with some questions. Has anyone done anything with Cults and Pseudo-Faiths? By that i mean something like Order of the Jedi. I know for legal reasons there cant be any official about that, (copywrite infringement) but what about fan made? It seems to me that in the no so distant future Star Wars fans would be even more energetic after the Awakening. What better wet dream for a fan boy than to have powers (Magic) that are just like in the Star Wars universe? What better way to describe Magic than by the Force? (And not the Midichlorine B.S.) That just invites all sorts running ideas that have to do with "Jedi Masters" vs "Sith Lords".
And besides the Way of the Jedi, there is also Way of the Saiyan. Thats right, a cult sprung up around the belief that one masters magic by mastering ones own chi. Adepts taking Distance Strike to a whole new level.

There's probably so many of them that it's the GM's call. Not all of them are full of crazy magic worshippers. A good example; the Universal Brotherhood.
Me, I want the cult of Doom. Led by James Earl Jones.

How about a new age Hogwarts? Imagine all the posers out there who would shell out top nuyen to go to a "School of Magic". And watch all of thier money dissapear.

Way of the Saiyan, lead by the Immortal "Grand-father Goku".
Or how about a so called "League of Super Heroes". Adepts and Magicians dressing up in capes and spandex and "Saving the World", one crime at a time.
The thought of Awakened Nerds is startling. Knowing how cliquey nerds are, its only natural that they would form up groups to fit their style.

"I find your lack of faith . . . disturbing." A Thulsa Doom/Darth Vader crossover?
Anything new and religion-like being founded post 2055 would get the hairy eyeball - and not just in the shadows; remember how suspicious some posters are of Horizon? - because of the Universal Brotherhood. Even the Children of the Dragon got this, despite their claimed inspiration by the Big D. So yeah, there are - or can be, in house campaigns - all sorts of pet cults out there, they're just small.

One of the guys in my group has thought up "Music" as a magical group. I could certainly see Elvis, Hank Williams, and JetBlack being deified.

I thought Elvis was.

I would think there would be separations and new divisions in major religions as well, like the Merlin Baptists...

I seem to recall back when I was first playing Shadowrun, SR3, we went on a run to assassinate...I think it was Ork Jesus in the Ork Underground. He had the hair and beard and was performing healing miracles and everything.

There's always the Mormons.
Not a new religion, but I just got a reminder about why it's a bad idea to pick a fight with them. :P
As for the Church of Elvis, there's all the splinter groups... Doesn't help that the Fanatical True Faithful To Elvis Our Savior love their pills, martial arts, and firearms.
