Anyone know of any SR slang for Knight Errant cops? Something that a ganger would spray on the side of a Knight Errant vehicle.
-
Nope. But if you think of something, lemme know, and it goes into Missions. :)
I'd brainstorm, but right now my brain is tapioca. Been another LONG day, and I was in the sun too long.
-
"Kaniggets!"
But seriously...
Well, in general I would think gangers tagging KE vehicles would spray paint their gang colors/names/symbols on it to shame KE. KE-specific terms, I haven't heard of /come across (that I can remember). But here's some off the top of my head...
"Brackhaven's Errant/d Boys" the t/d is stylized to be both letters, for Seattlites.
"The People's Knightmare" for the more politically minded - to put fear of KE into the populace.
"KE Sux Nutz" an oldie but goodie that hints at the tagging being an initiation.
"Lone Star was here"
-
Oooh, hehe, "Night's Pawns" or "Night's Pawnz," or just "Night pawns/z" which references the SR Novel, night because their uniforms are black, pawns to take a stab at them calling themselves knights. :)
-
"Tin Men", playing on the fact that they have "Tin Stars", and are "Knights", might be a suggestion.
-
Have to admit...I like Tin Men...alot. But the play on Knight and night is really good too!
Lone Star was here...very good also.
Ultimately I have limited space so Tin Men may be the best logistically.
-
It also harkens back to the "Western" feel that Shadowrun originally had, which is always a plus in my mind.
-
"Ares' Fairies" is what immediately came to mind when i pictured a Chulos tagger spray painting a flipped KE citymaster

Better hope an Elf or Pixie doesn't catch him doing that.
They might get offended to being incriminated towards being Ares wageslaves. :P

Considering present day slang terms for police and private security, I was taken aback by the lack of terms in SR slang for these two groups.
Since in essense they are 'Rent A Cops' maybe something along the lines of that?
-
*Shakes Head* Call any of the security companies that work a Police Contract a "Rent-A-Cop" and you're asking for a beating and to be charged with every crime they can pin on you, if the evidence exists or not they'll find it.
It'd work as a really good insult, but the connotations the term has are very, very negative. RACs are typically low paid, low trained, worthless wrecks around just to keep honest people honest, and to push the alarm button and "Go have my mandated coffee break" when any real trouble happens, while those on a Police Contract see themselves as Real Police.
Be akin to calling a Soldier a member of a "Backyard Militia" or a Special Forces member "Just a regular grunt".
If you do either of those things, however, record it please. I want to watch the epic beatdown (And, for the sake of your health insurance and their legal woes, I hope it's just verbal.). ;D
-
In SR...these private companies are in affect 'rented' to provide security for the public.
In RL I worked as a sworn LEO and as private security, so I was not intending to cast aspersions on anyone.
My point was, that in the fantasy world of SR, a tagger putting 'Rent A Cop' on a KE vehicle would do so as a supreme insult. ;D
I think once you see the final decal...it will make you grin to say the least!
-
"Lancelots" or "Galahads" or something like that? Not very mean, not something you tag their vans with, just something you call to your friends. "OK, everyone scramble, the Lancelots are coming!"
And Iīm quite sure someone with a better grip of the language could make something funny about the Kniggitsī slack lances or whatever.

- Squires
- Ladies (female "sirs")

A female "Sir" (Knight) is a "Dame".
Such as Dame Elton John.
...
I think I got that right. :P

Is there some way Dame and Damien Knight can be utilised?
-
Think like a Grade Schooler Chrona. :P
-
Broomhead=Ares employees?
-
I think we're missing an important step in the process here.
It's not just coming up with the term. It's them figuring out how to twist it.
I love the "Tin Men" idea... And may steal it. And twist it into gangs referring to them as "Tinners".
Of course... This has a double edge for me. The guy who taught me Shadowrun in the first place, his last name was Tinner, so... Muhuhahahaha! :)
Bull
-
"Tinnies" for Patrolmen and "Goldies" for Detectives, based on their badges might also work.
Actually, any derogatory military term would work for Ares Employees. I'd bet "Civilian" is a rank for them, after all, just like the old days of Rome. :P

Knight Errant = KE = KE-sters = keister cops
Like a butt.
The keister cops just sit around protecting the corpsers while real people get run down by street gangs and monsters.
-
It's not particularly offensive, but I did like the "Rent-A-Cop" suggestion. It would be quite the insult to an organization that is sure to see itself as more than that.
But that's too long. I figure you just shorten it to "Rent" or "Rents"
"Rents" could also read as " 'Rents" or parents, here in a negative context.
Or also this (http://www.siteforrent.com/), also in a negative context.
-
Calling law enforcement the fuzz, the man, pigs, bacon, or Klingons, etc. may never go out of style.
-
Personally KE-sters is great. it also makes it easy on the tag since it can be appended easily.
-
I'm with Kontact and Red, I think KE-sters is the funniest of these. ;D
-
KE-ster's even funnier when you know that keister is used as a verb to mean "stuffed up the ass"
like
"The drug mule kiestered the balloon full of coke."
-
I keep reading KE-ster as keystone, as in keystone cops, which also works.
-
KE-sters, Tin Men and Night Pawns are my favorites in that order.
Butt jokes, can't help but laugh.
-
KE have been called cats, kits, and by extension kittens, by members of my group before. Ket sounds like cat I suppose.
-
Night Airheads.... I know airheads isnt very tough but I keep picturing this cartoon of a knight helmet as a balloon.
or just spray paint over Err and just leave Knight ---ants. Here come the 'ants.
-
KE-xotes as in Quixote who became a Knight Errant himself...
Okay, maybe not as insulting as the other ideas, but I'd chuckle at the thought.
-
"Did that Knight Errant Officer just tilt that windmill?" "Yes. But he's a troll, so that's not as surprising as one might think."
-
I actually kind of like that one...except a spin on it... after all the guys who started calling them Quixotes had some kind of education to be familiar with the story... now street level thugs have been using it since.... "Here come the Coyotes.." or just Ki-oats, a shorter version of coyote. You could even have them taggin all mispelled KEy-oats or KE-yotes
-
"Why do you call them Coyotes? I mean, they're not even Indians. Most of them, anyhow." "Not Coyotes, Quixotes. Look, if you have to explain the joke, it's no longer funny." "How about telling jokes you don't need a university degree to get?" "... ... ... My Degree is in Thaumaturgical Physics, not LITERATURE! My degree is USEFUL!"
-
How about Stormtroopers, the anonymous dime-a-dozen grunts that get shot up in every star wars movie?
Bobbies, like the Londonian police officers of days past that were amongst the last police force in the world to resort to firearms?
Canned bacon? Going back to the "pig" derogative, but since they're all supposed to be knights in armor...
-
Baconīs too good for them. Let us call them "Spam".

Aztechnology's "I Can't Believe It's Not Spam"?

*grin*
-
Horizon's "All-Organic Spam", with the smiling ork on the face: "Juz like Moms never made!"
-
Hey, I like Spam.
Fried anyway.
Hawaiians love the stuff.
-
I second that! Fried Spam is the ono kine grindz! ;) and thanks for the suggestion! Azzies "I can't Believe its not Spam" will be making a guest star appearance in my campaign!
-
Fried "I Can't Believe It's Not Spam" is a hell of a lot better than Devil Rat On A Stick.
Unless it's from Mr. & Mrs. Ratt's Rat On A Stick stand in Touristville. They cook 'em up very nicely and have some kind of secret selection of spices they use... Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, good!

I think I'm a few away from this, but the idea is nice, thank you.

How about errand boys?
A knight errant was basically a knight that did not have a land, so he was "erring" from spot to spot.
An errand boy would be insulting as they would basically be glorified paper boys.
Just... thinking out loud.
-
What about Lancers? A mercenary troop of four horsemen in Italy was known as a lance. One of the troop would always armored like a knight. Knight Errant provides security for money just like mercenaries have done forever.
"Yo here comes some lancers lets git out of here!"
-
If their suits are really militaristic and have gas masks incorporated, some classicalists might call them "Stormtroopers" from a really old flatscreen series... :P
