Title: Drugs + Cyberware?
Post by: Lorebane24 on <02-27-16/2157:39>
Do stat boosts from these sources stack with one another?  I'm still not totally clear on this.

For that matter, what about magic and drugs, or cyberware and magic?

There used to be consensus that drugs stack with everything but of course can't break the +4 cap

Generally yes, though the key is generally whether an effect says it stacks or doesn't stack with "augmentations" or "enhancements." All augmentations are enhancements. Not all enhancements are augmentations. Augmentations are basically ware. Enhancements are everything (ware, drugs, magic, gear).

Prior to Chrome Flesh, it seemed like drugs were not implicated by the augmentation cap of +4 (a lot of magic was, because it was explicitly stated in, i.e., Increase Attribute or Improved Physical Attribute or Attribute Boost that the cap was implicated, but drugs didn't have this language). As of Chrome Flesh, the +4 cap explicitly also applies to drugs

For that matter, what about magic and drugs, or cyberware and magic?
See above, because it depends.

The Augmented Maximum of Attribute + 4 is a hard cap. Nothing can surpass this unless there is a line in the rule book that specifically states that a particular item can.

This. The rule applies unless specific note is made that a particular instance supersedes the general rule.

That said, the only things that don't stack with each other are the things that say they don't stack, and list what they don't stack with.

Chems stack with anything that doesn't say it doesn't stack with chems.

Boosted reflexes don't stack with any other augmentation, but chems still work, so you can combine boosted reflexes and cram or jazz.

Synaptic booster doesn't stack with anything.

Reaction enhancers don't stack with anything, except wired reflexes if wireless is enabled.

Wired reflexes don't stack with other augmentations, save for reaction enhancers if wireless is enabled, but stacks with chems and magic, oddly enough.

Adrenaline boost stacks with everything that will let it.

Improved Reflexes won't stack with "technological or magical" means.  Presumably, that includes chemical.  Bruce Lee needs no Cram.

Improved physical attribute stacks with everything.

Increase Reflexes stacks with everything.

Increase Attribute stacks with everything.

So, you can have Wired Reflexes, Cram, and Improved Reflexes all going at the same time.  But the bonuses can't exceed +4d6+4.

Unless you're stacking reaction enhancers and wired reflexes.  If memory serves, it explicitly states they allow you to exceed the +4 limit.

Yes, but if you're stacking wired reflexes and reaction enhancers, then you're also subject to the stacking limitations of the reaction enhancers, and the reaction enhancers wouldn't stack with the drugs or magic.

I wouldn't interpret it that way. Sure, drugs in the 2070s (and today!) generally are highly processed or even synthetic, but that doesn't push them into "technological" territory for me. If the power didn't want to stack with drugs, they could have used the "no other enhancements" clause like they did with other gear.

True not all drugs are made using synthetic processes some drugs are naturally occuring from plants

I mean, even it's a totally synthetic drug, I don't think that is what is intended by the term "technology"

I'd put it firmly in the, "It isn't clear. Ask your GM," pile.

As the whole point of drugs is to stack with things but run you the risk of getting burned from flying so, term, high, I'd probably assumed they stacked unless and until errata said otherwise. In other words, maybe by 2020.

Yeah, RAW seems pretty ambiguous about drugs. It could be interpreted either way, so at my table we allow drugs to stack with everything partly because of the addiction risks.
