Title: Steel Lynx with Rigger Cocoon.
Post by: Chrona on <12-22-10/2011:46>
Standard Mods can go on Large drones and I cant find anything ruling it out in Arsenal.
My GMs against it for my Mage-Rigger so its not gonna happen but I wanted to seewhat you guys think/have done before.

IF rigger cocoon had said it reduces the passenger space by 1, I would have said you can only put it in vehicles that can hold people normally. However, it doesn't, so I would not have a problem with it at my table.

Besides, how else are they slowly going to introduce Mech's before revealing that the BattleTech universe is actually the 7th World?

Great I can see it now, Troll elementals, Ork infantry, elven mechwarriors and aerojocks, dwarven techs (some things never change). Although the mech on dragon fight would be brutal....and then the weapons, a mana-based PPC??? eek.

But seriously, a rigger cocoon on a drone? Reminds me of a Tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell: SAC...not that it's a bad thing.

Note that in some cases it's going to look more like a rigger cocoon with a drone attached rather than the other way round.

I hate to help someone make an end-run around his GM but I'm going to. Why not buy a vehicle like the Horseman and kit it out to be just as bad as the Lynx? See various power amror discussions elsewhere on the forum. Large Drone with a cocoon makes sense to me. If a Medium can carry a jarhead, a large should be able to carry a full person. . . but the moment I see Harlequin in a Locust we're not friends anymore.

Yeah I was eyeing up the horseman, good idea. In my GMs last game of SR4 he plaed he was a rigger and built a tachikoma, its why im sad i cant cocoon a lynx.

Well, as a mage you probably want something with real windows anyway. Can't cast out of a Lynx while you're in a cocoon.

Install a Mage Sight system. :)

Granted, it imposes a dice pool penalty.

Good Idea as I have improved sensor array on it

I wonder if I can bolt a rigger cocoon to a Dodge Scoot.....  I'm gonna' have to try that.

SR4A, page 244,

"Drones (and only drones) are incapable of carrying passengers..."

I haven't found anything to contradict/supplement that, so I'd say it's not permissible by RAW.  (Edit to correct page number)

I took it to mean while unmodfied. Theres nothing stopping multiple suped up rotodrones carrying people for example

Yes there is, it's called gravity.  ;D

Seriously, from what little I know of current UAV technology, there are all kinds of reasons why drones are not build to accomodate people.  It messes with performance of the drone's primary task, whatever that may be.

But that doesnt make it impossible, just with a performace drop

A pretty severe one in all likelihood.  It would most probably be useless for anything other than screwing around or a proof of concept type thing.

You can fit some damn heavy kit on a large drone, im sure they can atleast handle a dwarf
Title: Re: Steel Lynx with Rigger Cocoon.
Post by: Dead Monky on <01-04-11/1400:24>
Oh lord, I can see it now.  Some dwarf hovering around, shooting at people while hanging by a bunch of lanyards suspended under a rotor drone.  He'd probably win every fight he got in because the enemy would be too busy laughing at him to shoot back.

I'd moved on from the rotodrones, back to large drones monkey

That's not as bad as one character idea that was pitched to me once...a troll rigger who used two "supercharged" crawler drones like rollerblades.

Did he have a tiny tank top, miniskirt, and pigtails?

Crap.  Well fine.  Just ride around on top of the thing.  Equally lame, almost as funny.

This was a rules discussion, not one about how it'd look.

You'll have to excuse Monky. He runs down in LA a lot and has to worry about his P2.0 rep. ;D

I vould use this rule without any exceptions. Drones aint have any free space inside of them. they are build to have not. They are just steel, electronics, weapons, ammo storage and propulsion system. You maybe should mount the seat on the top of it and use steel lynx as a horse, but else I see i aint work...

Lynx with Rigger cocoon will looks like...it has a tumour...and that should really mess up ballistic profile etc.

Tachicomas were intentionaly built as an APC...

Tachikomas look more or less like a Steel Lynx with a pod stuck to it. (http://www.google.com/images?q=tachikoma)

A Steel Lynx with a rigger cocoon will look like, hey, it's got a pod stuck to it.

In SRM I run a anthroform drone with a rigger cocoon in it, but I only justify it because it's a rigger cocoon for a pixie, so it's small enough to fit in a glove compartment.

I will say, honestly, though that if I was re-writing the rules I'd make some modifications cost multiple mod slots, and bring back weights and carrying capacities. The current mod rules are a little TOO abstract for my tastes.

You know, as a GM, there is no part of this sentence that doesn't give me twitch, including the grammar.

Just saying.   ;D

Yeah, on re-reading, it is badly worded.

The character was born purely because I'd been playing a rash of "dark grim spec ops serious grim dark" characters, and wanted something firmly in pink mohawk territory.

And the character does, in fact, have a pink mohawk.

Yeah...that...really isn't helping.

Those pics actually make me think heavily modified horseman with walker mode and front turrets more then a drone itself
