Title: For the next missions FAQ, would we save time if...
Post by: SichoPhiend on <01-06-15/1043:19>
After reading through Run Faster I have started to come up with quite a few questions but I find that they are dependent upon knowing what major aspects of the new character creation rules will be allowed in missions?  Now I'm not talking about which qualities will be allowed (at least not yet anyways), but which, if any, of the alternate creation rules will be used? (Sum to 10, build point, or life modules)
For instance, if build point is not allowed I wouldn't need to ask about how the quality 'Born Rich' would be applied to it.  (Granted this may be a question for the general FAQ/errata to begin with)

So my question is... Bull, would it be possible for you to give us a heads up about which system(s), if any, will be allowable for missions when this book goes legal?  Just thinking that it may save you from reading a hundred different questions that might not be relevant.

As of his last post on the subject he had not decided yet.

Personally, I wouldn't expect any alternate creation methods to be allowed, maybe the sum-2-10 method as it isn't as big of a difference from the default method.

Previously, none of the alternate methods from the Runner's Companion were allowed, and the best reasoning I know of is that the different methods balance differently (not saying any are better or munchkin-ny or anything). The best way to make sure things are fair to everyone (new and existing players alike) is to keep everything equal.

here are some quotes on the matter from the man himself

To be completely honest, I don't know yet.  As Imveros noted, nothing is Missions legal till +30 days from Dead Tree release, so in that time I'll be looking at general opinions of the alt-chargen methods (along with the rest of the material), looking them over myself, and talking with the authors to see how these characters stack up to the core Chargen from SR5.  With as many characters as have been created and are being run now, I have to very carefully look at how new chargen methods balance against the originals before I decide to allow them in.

Life Path...  I really have to look at, as that has the potential to be broken at first glance (Though I've only glanced briefly at it).
Karma Gen I think will make less powerful characters when you've got characters with several high-end skills/stats (5's and 6's as you note), but I think could make for more powerful "jack of all trades" characters who spread their points out a lot.

Overall, we'll have to see.  It'll be a math thing, ultimately.
