Hoi!
So, that's the OOC thread. Please remember that I'm new at this, so if you have any suggestions or wishes - post them right away, it'll be greatly appreciated.
"Agenda" in no particular order:
1) I would like you as a collective and creative whole to decide whether your characters know each other and have worked with each other before. Please feel free to discuss it with each other. You can of course have your characters meet in-game, if you like, but why miss on an opportunity to make an engaging back-story? ;-)
FYI:
1) The game will be set in Default City Seattle in the Summer of 2075;
2) All SR5 books are in use.
There might be small house-rules here and there, but they are limited to such things as repair costs being 1% instead of 10%, or some gear having stats shifted a bit (I'm looking at Fineblades), so nothing drastic. The only single significant change I can state right away is that jammers (and Noise) affect Matrix connectivity as a whole, not just Wireless Bonuses.
I know that few people want to start a game without knowing all the houserules, so I'll try to write them all down. Again, there will be nothing drastic, just small stuff, usually in PCs favor. If you have a particular house rule you want to suggest (like technomancers having an ability to establish a direct connection through touch) - feel free to do so, we can discuss that;
3) I have to state right away that my descriptions borrow heavily from Hollywood;
4) We are using http://orokos.com/ for our dicerolling needs;
5) Please all keep all the rolls in the OOC thread.
List of house rules and rules clarifications in no particular order (currently not finished):
- A pilot program can get non-implanted benefits of a smartgun system if it has a smartlink upgrade as part of it's sensor package;
- Rigger with an implanted smartlink who's jumped into a drone with a smartlink upgrade as part of it's sensor package is treated as having an implanted smartlink;
- Drones use an appropriate Fire Mode Action instead of a Complex Action when firing a mounted weapon;
- Jumped-In Riggers use the Astral Attribute substitution;
- Rigger Command Consoles provide +1 to Vehicle and Matrix Actions in addition to the +2 bonus from Hot-Sim;
- Oversummoning (summoning a Spirit of Force greater than the Conjurer's Magic) is resisted with an Edged Force roll;
- Pulse Storm lasts a couple of minutes;
- Cougar fineblades have their AP and Acc increased by one point each;
- Technomancers can form PANs;
- A magician doesn't have to make an Unarmed Combat test to hit with a touch spell - he hits with Spellcasting;
- Conjurers can only have one Spirit present at a time;
- The rule "Social Skills and Language" on page 151 of the Core Book is enforced;
- Firearms in a weapon mount have to be reloaded as usual, but the drone itself can perform reloading;
- Rainforest Carbine from Gun H(e)aven 3 is banned, sorry. I wanted to ban qualities from the Assassin's Primer, but let's keep them for this game;
- Noise cuts off Matrix connectivity whatsoever, not just Wireless Bonuses;
- Wireless Bonus of a datajack stacks with itself. That means that 6 'jacks grant Noise Reduction of 6;
- If there is a certain spell with its Drain code obviously off, or a piece of gear you think should have its stats adjusted slightly - bring that up, maybe we can figure it out;
- Notoriety imposes a dice pool penalty on appropriate social actions;
- Notoriety works like spirit reputation: everybody knows somehow (maybe there is a metaplane of Johnsons);
- Bricking a smartgun bricks a gun (one can't fire it until it's repaired);
- Items with "Custom Fit (Stack)" are not considered armor accessories;
- This book (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m144/Elektrycerze3/PhoneBook_RGB_zps7698a34c.jpg) is considered one of the Core Books.
P.S. I left out some of my house-rules, that won't show their heads in a one-shot, like SIN taxes being deducted one way or another. Also I'm quite sure that I've missed something - hope you understand.

Usually I use Orokos.com for my dice rolling.
People might know me, though it would be more of my matrix persona more than myself.
On Jammers - because Technomancers are not a device, and there living persona is not a device, I read that Jammers (The Head, direction and area jammer in the electronic gear section) do not effect Technomancers, since they state they affect Devices and persona on those devices. Kinda the trade of not being able to form your own PAN/WAN or other things devices can do that the book repetitively says you cannot because you are not a device.
If Noise though can knock things off the matrix.. I might want to pick up pulse storm. Though I don't know how long pulse storm is suppose to last.
-
Skinny Jim, Ork, 15 years old, Close combat.
I've really taken a liking to Orokos for dicerolling.
Anyone who spends a LOT of time on the streets, there's a good chance we know eachother, althought with two of our group who rarely leave the safety and comfort of their whatevers, you, as the GM may need to do some hand-waving if we're all to know one another.
There might be small house-rules here and there, but they are limited to such things as repair costs being 1% instead of 10%
A houserule we've been real happy with is 1% for the first half of the boxes, 5% for the second half. The more its beat up, the pricier it gets to fix.
-
Let's not make repairs more costly than the GM suggested, neh? As a seriously gear dependent rigger, I strongly object to deviating from the 1% per box as per the previous version.
I have some questions which I'll post later, mostly related to drones since the rules are somewhat lackluster in SR5 still.
Once I get home I'll also post the character bio.
Thanks for organizing this, Elek!
EDIT:
1) I'd like you to post a little snippet about your character, like "alias, metatype, age, primary role, secondary role". That snippet will go into this post for later reference.
Alias: Moto
Metatype: Dwarf (Koborokuru, i.e. Japanese sub-type)
Age: 32
Primary Role: Rigger (wheelman, infiltration, and long range fire support)
Secondary Roles: Mechanic / EWAR Specialist / General Knowledge Wiz
2) Please offer your suggestions on a diceroller to use.
Orokos.com has been mentioned; I prefer this one as well.
3) I would like you as a collective and creative whole to decide whether your characters know each other and have worked with each other before. Please feel free to discuss it with each other. You can of course have your characters meet in-game, if you like, but why miss on an opportunity to make an engaging back-story? ;-)
I'm good either way; Moto is both a wheelman/rigger and software engineer, and runs an automotive/aeronautics repair/bodyshop in a nicer neighbourhood of Tacoma. It's entirely possible that he would have met some of the others either during a run, or online, or while doing work on their gear. He could also very well have been outside talent brought in when someone needed a heavily armed and armored transport option.
1) The game will be set in Default City Seattle in the Summer of 2075.
Yay! All of the backstory already centers on this, so that's perfect from where I'm sitting.
I know that few people want to start a game without knowing all the houserules, so I'll try to write them all down. Again, there will be nothing drastic, just small stuff, usually in PCs favor. If you have a particular house rule you want to suggest (like technomancers having an ability to establish a direct connection through touch) - feel free to do so, we can discuss that.
First of all, unlike Triskavanski I would suggest making Technomancers vulnerable to jamming just like everyone else, but instead allow them to form PANs just like a device.
And I apologize in advance, because I have quite a few questions with regards to rigging :)
1. Will a drone's pilot program be able to benefit from a smartgun equipped weapon if it has a smartlink upgrade as part of it's sensor package?
Suggestion: Can gain non-implanted benefits of a smartgun system (+1 to limits and dice pool using Take Aim, if wireless various free actions)
2. Same as above, but for a rigger with an implanted smartlink who's jumped into said drone
Suggestion: Treat as implanted smartlink using normal smartgun equipped weapon
3. How do you want to handle progressive recoil with drones, as they are forced to take all Fire Weapon actions as Complex Actions, regardless of original action?
Suggestion: Determine Progressive Recoil based on Fire Mode used as normal, even though actions are Complex (so a drone firing a single Semi-Auto shot that is normally a Simple Action wouldn't build progressive recoil)
4. Rigger-related attributes
Jumped-In Gunnery uses Logic as linked attribute; disputed by statement from Aaron a while back, but recently updated version of core has removed Agility from Gunnery all together (source of confusion (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=11514.msg230514#msg230514))
Jumped-In Sneaking uses Intuition as linked attribute (source (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=11514.msg230724#msg230724))
Suggestion: An alternative to attribute usage is to allow Jumped-In Riggers to use the Astral Attribute substitution list on page 314 of the core rulebook;
Agility -> Logic, Body -> Willpower, Reaction -> Intuition -> Strength -> Charisma
The first two are already mostly in use (though I have no idea why Sneaking while Jumped-In is Intuition, to be honest), so the big one would be Reaction; Moto would be a better driver while jumped in, and a much worse one when not. I'm really curious as to how this would work out, so if you're up for it I'd love to give this house rule a go.
5. Will you follow Aaron's reading that Rigger Command Consoles provide +1 to Vehicle and Matrix Actions in addition to the +2 bonus from Hot-Sim (source (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=11514.msg238706#msg238706))
Suggestion: I would allow it, both because Aaron says so and because it's a 150k+ investment :)
6. Just in case you aren't aware (I just recently discovered this rule myself), drones get Recoil Compensation equal to their BOD (hidden away on page 176, but YAY!).
Suggestion: None, just FYI in case you didn't know.
3) I have to state right away that my descriptions borrow heavily from Hollywood.
Fair enough, at least this way I'm aware ahead of time :)
Not my preference, but it's your game so I'll just roll with it.
And I think that's it.

I think we should know each other already. If not from only one or two runs at least. It's easier on the GM and it lets us have a bigger backstory.

Despite a feeble physic, Kachina has an intimidating presence and undeniable charisma. She walks straight up, and has piercing green eyes.
== Background ==
Kachina was born and raise in a small community of Hopi in the Pueblo Corporate Council Territories, with strong ties to Shamanism as both her parents and grand-parents were shamans. Her grand-father was part of the Kachina Society during their support of Daniel Howling Coyote against the US and as a tribute, was named after it.
It wasn't before she was 14, however, that she started Awakening. She had full support from her peers and embraced her learning, excelling in her understanding of the Astral World and the conjuring of spiritual entities. Physically, she was feeble and clumsy, but had a strong mind and was fearless. She would stand up in front of bullies, and was short-tempered if she felt insulted. She had already a strong personality, and her good heart made her very likable. The Shamans could see her struggle between her good nature, and her fighting spirit.
It was only when she embraced the path of the Thunderbird Totem, as suggested by her peers, that she managed to develop her spellcasting abilities, which let her to believe what she could do with what theorists called the Mana was granted by the Spirits. As such, her 'magic' is closely related to what the Thunderbird was known for in her tribe's lore.
She went to college and studied psychology and behaviors but, quickly and radically changed path and accepted to be recruited into the military. She received good training and they utilized her skills efficiently. Soon she became part of a special unit; her skills in interrogation techniques and scouting giving her a special edge in spite of her weak physic. She fought in Skirmishes against the Aztlans within a year of her enrollment, and though difficult and dangerous, she strove in the midst of battle and conflict.
But it was when she was back home that she found her disillusion. The Pueblo Council was one big corporation and Kachina soon discovered than like any corporation, the PCC had its interest in mind before its people. During the Ute absorption in 2067, fight over land control force her unit to intervene. She found herself protecting the land she was born on and fighting for her own tribe. She was proud. Opposition would be no match if they were going for the fight.
A few shots were exchanged. Then Politicians stepped in. Within hours, orders were reversed and her unit was ordered to withdraw. Enemy Force was taking over, her unit forced to step back and her own Tribe's Shaman refused to be relocated and were ready to fight back. She tried to convince them to leave but to no avail. She had no choice: Disobey order or watch the last stand of her own people. A black eagle flew over the community. An omen? She rallied her unit, and convinced them to fight by her side and protect the community.
Her tribe's shamans summoned many spirits for the fight. But the enemy force were prepared. The battle ensued both in the physical and Astral Space. It was a massacre. The land burnt. Her people died. Fire Spirits were all over. She banished 4 of them that day. Exhausted, she was taken away on a helicopter. Suddenly the Black Eagle flew in, knocked her over, and as she fell to her death, saw the helicopter explode in flame as a rocket hit it.
Kachina still believes to this day she had mustered the last strength to cast a levitation spell on her and protect her from her fall. She awoke well after the fighting was over. Desolation was all that remained. Most in her tribe was dead. Most in her unit were dead. The ones that weren't would soon be sent to court martial. She had convinced them to fight, her alone.
She was left for dead. She disappeared. Little is known about what became of her during that time, outside of being stamped KIA.
5 years later, Kachina was roaming the streets of Seattle. She had lost, she had been defeated, she was a SINless, and starting over was hard. But a storm still raged inside her. She had understood the Thunderbird had a different path He wanted her to take and she had the spirits on her side (well most; she had found out Fire Spirits weren't too keen of her), and she knew there was a demand for her skill set. She entered the Shadow
2075. 3 years into the shadows already, and she hasn't been as successful as she would have hope for. She was now Kachina Powaka. The Spirit Witch. She had kept her first name to always remember her past, but thought Powaka - Witch in Hopi dialect - was suited for her activity. Her craft was sought after, but one doesn't succeed alone in this field of criminals and often egocentric half-witted amateurs. She wanted her own team, one that would become a force to reckon in the Shadow; one that would make the Thunderbird proud.
Kachina's objective is to have her own team. She could have put the word out and have our respective fixers arrange for us to meet.
Her and Greenwood have military background, they could also have connected before. From there in need of a skilled Rigger they would have been put in touch with Moto.
Their last hacker could have been shot/burned and in serious need of a computer guy, they agreed to take on a rookiee, see what he's made of. Welcome Cabonel.
Cabonel wouldn't come without his favorite bodyguard and swordsman Skinny Jim, who may end up being the best part of the bargain (no offense to Cabonel, just playing on his bad rep).
It creates some connection between characters without a full range of knowledge of each others or trust. The team is ready to go and learn more about each others.
For dice roller I like http://rolz.org/ . You just create a room and all rolls are recorded. I'm not familiar with Orokos.

Kachina's objective is to have her own team. She could have put the word out and have our respective fixers arrange for us to meet.

I've used rolz, but doesn't everybody have to be using it at the same time to see the rolls?

I second Obidancer's background story, by the way.
Also, Elek, I updated my post with questions above. Again, apologies, but riggers need some damned love in this edition already so I DON'T have to clarify this shit every time I play with a new GM :)

No I believe everything in the room is saved so whenever you return to the room, you see all the rolls that have happened.

I still prefer Orokos, but that's probably just because I am familiar with it :-)
Up to Elek, I'll use whatever in the end.

Yes any roller will do.
@Number2, if Greenwood and Kachina have known each other and decided to team up, any suggestion how and why?
How did Cabonel got to swear by Skinny Jim for protect? Have they built a friendship or purely professional?

It's hard to say. I don't really know much about cabonel. what kinda guy he is, what his morals are, that kinda thing.
Can't say if we'd be friends or not.
Also dont really know why a guy who never leaves the house needs a bodyguard now that i think about it.
Perhaps we go another direction
An idea i was kicking around in my head was something like "Kachina had heard stories of this legendary elven swordsman named "Zuzjana" for years, and realizing the team she was assembling would need some fast and deadly close range protection, she reached out to him through a mutual contact, perhaps even went to his deli herself, i dunno. How she contacted him is up to you. But his response was to send a wiry 15 year old ork calling himself "Skinny Jim" in his place. If the group has already been on any runs together, he's proven himself to be a wise, friendly, quiet, reliable, and deadly ally, even if he IS a bit limited in his skillset.
Also, Elek, you mentioned doing something with the cougar fineblades. what was that exactly?
As it stands, the cougarblade is identical to a regular ol sword in accuracy and dmg, but costs more, has higher availablity, and less AP.
it seems like we should just put the AP = the sword and the accuracy one higher, to make it worth the money. eh?
Or i could just use a regular ole sword and not worry bout it.
whatever works for you
-
Well, Cabonel does eventually leave his house, once he starts getting into runs. He ends up needing to put up his microcameras and the like in places.
He prefers though to keep some distance away from the action, and uses his chameleon suit to keep that way.
-
The way SR5 is made, decker does need to come with the team now. I understand Cabonel is not the regular Decker kid, and that he will stay away from the action, but he will still have to remain not too far... Maybe in Moto's van for that matter.
@pointdexter Body 6 Str 10! how does that make the ork Skinny and Wiry? :) he could put some Troll to shame lol.
I don't mind the Zuzjana story though, very possible. I am just trying to make more character connections.
-
Smuggling compartment in Moto's van is nice and comfy :)

well, that 6 body is on the ork scale, so 4-9, 6 still puts him on the thin side for an ork
and the 10 str is really just 7+some magic. I figure that + the weak immune system, and he can come across as wiry.
the equal of a human with 3 bod and 5 str, so definitely well toned, and muscled, but still on the wiry side.
-
@pointdexter: And for creative thinking, out of curiosity, what does he dress like?
-
@pointdexter: And for creative thinking, out of curiosity, what does he dress like?
He sticks to light colors, tan, beige, white, etc. Prefers clothes that allow alot of movement, baggy pants, button down shirts with wide sleeves, not quite "kung-fu movie" but a close contemporary style. He prefers very simple, traditional, and unobtrusive clothing. Except when it comes to shoes. His color scheme stays the same, but his shoes are the most modern, hi-tech, up to date shoes he can afford. Sneakers, mostly.
-
@Obidancer
Well, like you said, they both have military experience. rolen in the UCAS, and he was 18 when he joined and spent about 4 years in the military and 1 on the streets. So it is possible that they knew each other in the UCAS, seeing as how Rolen signed up for just about everything in it. Including, Demolition classes, personal defense classes, combat tactics classes, etc.

Well, I play Technomancers differently than I would a decker but I don't intend on staying in my home while doing full on runs, after all don't drek where you eat.
I'll get a data tap though, to assist that.
-
Shame 5th Edition riggers can no longer do much at all in the Matrix except Matrix Perception Tests and Matrix Search. Compensate On The Fly is pretty neat, though.
-
What is Compensate on the fly if I may ask?
-
Away from books at the moment, but it boils down to a rigger taking a complex action while his persona is on his RCC using EWar and Logic, I believe, with hits counting as noise reduction.
-
I don't mind the Zuzjana story though, very possible. I am just trying to make more character connections.
Well, there's also mutual contacts and interests that people could know eachother through.
Skinny enjoys reading stories/watching trids about street samurai and he's also really into trees and plants. He also has a fixer, street-doc, and bartender contact that i haven't fleshed out yet.
If someone else has a similar contact they aint fleshed out yet, perhaps its the same person?
-
Well the names I have are net handles for my fixer and electronics guy.
-
Thank you for providing the snippets =)
So, before I unexpectedly vanish for no good reason like many prospective GMs on this pbp forums do, I'll try to answer your questions:
On Jammers - <...>I read that Jammers<...>do not effect Technomancers.
First of all, unlike Triskavanski I would suggest making Technomancers vulnerable to jamming just like everyone else, but instead allow them to form PANs just like a device.
Well, I have two ways in mind to go about it:
1) Only headjammers affect technomancers;
2) Technomancers can form PANs.
@Triskavanski, as the only technomancer in this group you can choose the one you like.
I might want to pick up pulse storm. Though I don't know how long pulse storm is suppose to last.
Let's say it lasts an encounter/scene. So about couple of minutes.
A houserule we've been real happy with is 1% for the first half of the boxes, 5% for the second half.
Let's not make repairs more costly than the GM suggested, neh?
Not an answer, but a comment: LOL =)
And I apologize in advance, because I have quite a few questions with regards to rigging
No need: I quite understand the issue =)
Let's go with your suggestion =) Although I believe one doesn't have to Take Aim to get the +1 wireless bonus.
2. Same as above, but for a rigger with an implanted smartlink who's jumped into said drone
Suggestion: Treat as implanted smartlink using normal smartgun equipped weapon
Your suggestion seems reasonable.
3. How do you want to handle progressive recoil with drones<...>?
Suggestion: Determine Progressive Recoil based on Fire Mode used as normal, even though actions are Complex<...>
That one you might like a lot: let's just houserule, that drones (not vehicles or pivoted manual operated guns) fire using the base Fire Mode Action, not Complex Action.
4. Rigger-related attributes
Jumped-In Gunnery uses Logic as linked attribute; disputed by statement from Aaron a while back, but recently updated version of core has removed Agility from Gunnery all together (source of confusion)
Jumped-In Sneaking uses Intuition as linked attribute (source)
Suggestion: An alternative to attribute usage is to allow Jumped-In Riggers to use the Astral Attribute substitution<...>
I am not sure about that one. Everything inside me screams that Reaction is stylistically more appropriate for jumped-in riggers, but for the sake of experiment let's go with your suggestion (including Sneaking).
5. Will you follow Aaron's reading that Rigger Command Consoles provide +1 to Vehicle and Matrix Actions in addition to the +2 bonus from Hot-Sim (source)
Suggestion: I would allow it, both because Aaron says so and because it's a 150k+ investment :)
I follow Aaron's reading 60% of the time, all the time =P All hail Aaron. So yes =)
6. Just in case you aren't aware (I just recently discovered this rule myself), drones get Recoil Compensation equal to their BOD (hidden away on page 176, but YAY!).
Suggestion: None, just FYI in case you didn't know.
tl;dr: YAY!
Funny bit about that one: I noted that on the first reading of the book, but considered it too OP, so when GMing SR5 for the first time, I houseruled that bit away. After the first combat our rigger was devastated: his drones couldn't hit anyone and they were as fragile as fragging china. So we dismissed that house-rule, which was the most short-lived houserule I ever implemented.
Fair enough, at least this way I'm aware ahead of time :)
Not my preference, but it's your game so I'll just roll with it.
Thank you =) I took a note of your preference a long time ago. By the way, even if I wanted to go with realism (military realism, I guess), I'd suck at it: not only am I a person who has no head for science, but also my whole military experience is limited to patching up my service coat, fetching stuff for drill sergeants and assembling AKs. Gotta love Russian Army =P
Also, Elek, you mentioned doing something with the cougar fineblades. what was that exactly?
Let's buff its AP and Acc by one point each, just like you said. It shouldn't be worse that the sword, but it shouldn't be better in every respect too (that way the sword has higher Reach at least).
I'll have to test all those rollers to find the one. Thanks for the suggestions.
Thanks for organizing this, Elek!
yeah, indeed.
You are welcome =) But better wait until we start an IC thread, don't jinx it))
-
So, before I unexpectedly vanish for no good reason like many prospective GMs on this pbp forums do...

So higher acc, but lower reach. I dig it.

Well, if we're doing the rule where I can do a pan with my living persona, I could drop my transys avalon for some more gear.
-
Well, if we're doing the rule where I can do a pan with my living persona, I could drop my transys avalon for some more gear.
Well, it's your choice: either you can form a PAN, or you ignore jammers (excluding the headjammer).
So higher acc, but lower reach. I dig it.
Glad to hear =) Fineblades are in need of love.
DON'T DO IT MAN!
I think it has something to do with a long-haired chic crawling out of my TV or something like that. I have no other explanation for GMs going missing all the time =))
-
Cool as cool, Elek, thanks for providing answers to my questions :)
-
Oh there is something else that would come up too,
Flensel Fabric - Honestly, this stuff they copy pasta from WAR! makes no real sense. How would this armor enhancement work?
-
My guess; the wearer must simply be facing in the direction of the signal he's trying to work with. In other words, it's not an omnidirectional thing so you don't get Noise Reduction = Rating all the time, only when working with specific things.
And it's Fresnel Fabric :)
-
Kinda sounds hard to do honestly. Especially if you're in VR.
Though if it was like a lighthouse and lens, according to thing, I suppose it could be something like
http://lighthouseaudiovisual.co.uk/ekmps/shops/lighthouseav1/images/jb-systems-led-disco-ball-dj-effect-light-%5B3%5D-146-p.jpg
Where you've got one bulb and multiple lenses to beam out the light.
-
Hard to do; not impossible. Impractical if you're in VR? Absolutely. That's the cost I'd impose, though, because Noise Reduction 6 is pretty darned powerful.
-
/me shrugs. As far as I know, noise works both ways.
Its food for thought I suppose.
-
I don't know how old you are, Trisk, but if you're familiar with good old fashioned TV signals broadcast over air, they could be pretty unreliable.
Depending on ambient noise, you sometimes had to adjust the antenna. I remember having to hold it up above the TV a couple of times when something important was on.
Think of Fresnel Fabric like a directional jammer, and you won't be far off; there might be noise in between you and the source of the signal, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it affects you directly.
-
Flensel Fabric<...>
martinchaen hit the nail on the head with that example and his understanding of this piece of gear. By the way one doesn't have to be old to understand that example: the TV at my country-house still has such an antenna =P
Cool as cool, Elek, thanks for providing answers to my questions :)
You are welcome =)
As for the diceroller, I think we will stick to orokos.com.
By the way, I have a question for you: is it OK with you if I hide my rolls? I am used to rolling behind a screen, but if it is considered bad manners in pbp or something to that extent, I can roll in the open.
As far as I understand, you chose to follow the general background story as offered by obidancer and now are hammering out finer points. Is this correct? How much time do you need? No need to hurry: I'm just asking =)
Question for the experienced pbp players: do we need anything else? I'm currently working on the house-rules list (it's not long, I just have trouble remembering everything), but maybe there is something else I should do before we start?
-

i dont care either way.

seems so. I think we can have this hammered out in a day or two?

it'd help if you put what color codes you plan on using for speech, matrix, etc in your signature.
-

Done. Too bad there is no uniform code in place =(

Alright, I'm going to go with the PAN option.
-
I'm fine with hiding rolls - perk of the GM.
I realize than Kachina left the Military pretty much as Rolen entered it, so have to figure something else on how they met. But outside of rolling for starting money I believe we're good to go.
-

Maybe Kachina met him while he was a rookie, just before she left. Couple months under fire is long enough to make fast friends, or at least to know you can trust someone.
-
By the way, I have a question for you: is it OK with you if I hide my rolls? I am used to rolling behind a screen, but if it is considered bad manners in pbp or something to that extent, I can roll in the open.
Just FYI; it is not possible to hide your rolls on Orokos as far as I'm aware, except if you don't use a character and campaign name (in which case the rolls are not saved).
For instance, you can view my entire roll history simply by knowing my screen name on there;
http://orokos.com/roll/m-martinchaen
Fortunately, this also means you can easily view every roll made for the entire campaign as long as everyone uses the same name. For instance, this is a real-time game I'm playing in called Lowly Beginnings;
http://orokos.com/roll/c-Lowly+Beginnings
In short, you'd have to roll without the campaign name to not record the rolls as far as I'm aware. Either way, I have no issue with you not wanting to roll in the open; in fact, I encourage it. Otherwise, you couldn't fudge those rolls if you wanted to :D
Question for the experienced pbp players: do we need anything else? I'm currently working on the house-rules list (it's not long, I just have trouble remembering everything), but maybe there is something else I should do before we start?
I second the colour codes; mine are listed in my signature. I'd also prefer it if rolls were made entirely in the OOC thread, but that's just because I like immersing myself in the story when reading the IC thread and rolls kind of pull me out of it.
Other than that, we're good as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to it! :)
Also; starting nuyen!

Thanks for the info! =)
I have to say, though, that there is a certain twisted way I can keep my rolls in secret. Behold:

OK, let's do it that way.
@Triskavanski
Alright, I'm going to go with the PAN option.
Got it. Amended the first post.
@Everybody
OK, let's all follow martinchaen's suite and roll starting cash.
I'll try to hammer down all the house rules by tomorrow morning (in 14-16 hours, I guess).
-
Hehe, good old fashioned dice, huh. Heretic! Technology must prevail!
Ehem. Anyway. In order to not store dice rolls on Orokos all you need to do is put Test in the campaign field.
Also, one more question about drones (I'm sure it won't be the last).
How do you want to handle ammunition capacity? The standard weapon mount rules state that the weapon mount "may hold any assault rifle or smaller-sized weapon and 250 rounds of ammo", but I've mounted an Ares Alpha and I've got 200 rounds of ammo and 12 grenades (6 each of Flash-Bangs and HE).
Suggestion 1: Change the weapon to belt feed (somehow)
Suggestion 2: Keep the weapon ammunition feed as normal, and allow weapon mount to reload using standard reload actions
I actually prefer option 2, as it makes Heavy Weapon Mounts with Machine Guns more attractive (belt fed machine guns with 500 rounds of ammo is hard to beat for protracted engagements), while allowing drones to reload without having to circle back to the owner for manual reloads. Both require some degree of handwaving, in my opinion.
In other words, with your Fire Mode houserule I would be able to do the following in one initiative pass:
Free Action: Eject Smartgun Clip
Simple Action: Insert Clip
Simple Action: Fire Weapon (SA, BF (3 rounds), or FA (6 rounds), depending on currently selected Fire More)

I like your idea @pointdexter. We're gonna have to tweak a little bit locations and timeframe. But how about, and somehow, the UCAS military got in charge of the clean up in the aftermath of the corporate skirmish that burn down Kachina's community. Of course they would send in new recruits for it was just a cleaning job. Rolen, freshly enrolled, may have found the wounded Kachina. Only issue, she didn't want to be found, she needed to have disappeared in the Helicopter's destruction. He had to report her however, and make a choice. Few words were exchanged, but Rolen quickly understood the massacre that had happened. He threw her his water flask and turned around, never ever mentioning what had happened.
5+ years later. Rolen embraced the Shadows but needs job. A call from his new fixer, a meet. Several runner are there already, the Johnson is gonna make and hire a team from various sources. When an Amerindian women enters, heads turns in her direction. Her body language calls for attention, a confident and intimidating posture shows she's not to be messed with.
Only Rolen recognizes her, she hasn't change. She too remembers the boy's face, a persistent image from unwanted memories, the day her life had changed.
The rest is history...
How about that? Rolen, through his action (or lack of), saved Kachina from Martial Court. The two reunited as the soldier just turned to the shadows. They knew nothing about each others respected one another. They've teamed up since.

The problem with linking Skinny in any meaningful way is that he's never really done anything meaningful with his life. He's been well trained in a very narrow scope, but has nearly no real world experience. He's only 15 years old, barely an adult by ork standards, and desperately wants to make his mark on the world in the short time he has in it. Beyond the contacts he knows (a fixer, street doc, bartender, and his aging elf sensei), i dont really see a way to link him up very well.
I think some people SHOULD have stronger ties than the rest though. Makes the strong ties worth more and makes those with weaker ties have to work harder to earn the group's trust, eh?
-
Is it possible Skinny could have ever been on Shadowrun Online or other comparable games that a online clan would have picked him up for?
-
Updated the first post as promised. I'll update it again if I remember something I've missed.
Also, one more question about drones (I'm sure it won't be the last).
Your suggestion #2 is actually how I've always handled it =) Seems only fair to machine guns.

They're known for luring young ork boys into doing bad stuff. Wait, what?

A few things I plan on doing is working on using Editor and Edit file action + blue prints or other data to create a game map of places we are trying to get into. Using Img links, I plan on using this as an overlay function for the team.
Essentially helping to direct them into cover, superior firing positions and otherwise avoiding fights as I can. Including showing off secret doors and other structural oddities.
This would also include cross referencing multiple video feeds to show where enemies are, and create to the best of my character's abilities, a game HUD for the team including enemy radar and such.
This is basically done through editor as well as just plain old fashioned Leadership.

Well, Carbonel is also a new comer, joining in real shadowruns through the online clan he's part of. So its possible the two of us joined in from the clan Knightmare Court.

i dunno. i dont really feel like video games are this guys forte, nor really an area of interest, y'know?

Ok, correct me if im wrong here, but so far, the groups backstory seems to be...
Rolen and Kay met briefly, but SIGNIFICANTLY during their brief overlap in the military, recognized one another years later in the shadows, and instantly knew they could trust one another. They began putting together a team, consisting of Moto, whom they contacted through Valkyrie ,his fixer, Skinny who came in the place of his respected, but aging teacher, and Cabonel who they contacted through a video game.
am i missing any details? Getting anything outright wrong?
Oh yeah, and for my starting loot...
Starting loot redux (http://orokos.com/roll/209948): 2d6 2 x 40 = 80 + 560 leftover = 640 total.
-
Yep, thats pretty much how I joined in.
-
Poindexter
If you've got a middle lifestyle and roll 4d6 for starting nuyen, the multiplier is 100, not 40.
Just saved you some more cash again, chummer :-)
-
Nah, Skinny's a squatter.
-
In that case, you only roll 2d6 I'm afraid.
-

ah yes. Thanks.
edited.

I would say let the fixers do they job to get in touch with
Cabonel's group. Kachina is really not the video game kind of girl. ;)
Now let's decide if Cabonel's and Skinny has done any run with the group already. I.e are they really rookies.

i feel like Skinny should have been on at least 1 or 2 runs with the group by now. Long enough for everyone to know he's trustworthy, and also long enough to know he needs to expand his skillset PRONTO.
-
I'm about the same. Enough missions to be able to trust me, but still obvious that I have no clue.
-
Well that sounds promising! :o
Half of the team has no clue what they're doing! 😁
-
Moto is a great rigger, though, so at least the getaway part is solid :)

skinny is smart, observant, and understands the rules to the game. His training has just focused too narrowly on one thing.

Hoi!
So, about that IC thread: I can start it this week if you like, or next week. Thing is, I'm moving to Boston this Sunday and there will be a pause in my posting schedule while I'm trying to settle there, so if we start this week it will be a slow start. So when would you like to start?
Question - with a RIG, would this work if I had a face mask instead of a helmet?
I can't say that I understand the question =(
-
Start us off whenever you have time, mate, it's good either way.
Best of luck with the move! Say hi to some southies for me :-)
-
RIG is something from run and gun, says it needs to be put into a helmet and armor to function. Though I'm wanting to use a ballistics mask myself. I want to know if I can put it into that mask
-

Ah! Sorry, I forgot how to acronym =P Sure, you can put that in a mask.
-
You start this whenever you feel comfortable doing so. But thanks for being up front about things early on.
I'll wait till whenever, cap'n.
-
Yeah, I don't see why you couldn't put the headware part of the RIG in a ballistic mask instead of a helmet; it has more capacity that your standard helmet anyway.
Still need the armor piece, of course, but that shouldn't matter much. I'm guessing RIGs are just most commonly installed in a soldiers armor, from the description.
-
OK. Thank you for your understanding =) We will be starting the IC thread next week, when I'm well settled in Boston. The time difference won't be an issue for quite some time)
-
Alright, I'll finish up the last bit of my character then.
I picked up Small Unit Tactics knowledge skill, as I do intend to use this knowledge skill a lot for you all.
-
You might want to clarify with the GM how Small Unit Tactics work; also note that SUT is useless for Moto, and I'd argue that unlike leadership you can't use SUT from a remote location, but that's just me relating real world knowledge to that section of the book, which is actually very real world comparable.
-
Why is it useless for Moto?
And why can you not use it from a remote location?
-
First of all, just make sure you clarify how the rules actually works with Elek; there was a pretty good discussion on this recently;
http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=17519.0
Moto uses Roto-Drones; he wouldn't be much use in a combat maneuver, with the possible exception of Crossfire.
As for remote location; the leader has to be, you know, accepted as a leader by the team. I find it hard to believe that someone who's in your ear, watching your movements through cameras, would be an accepted leader for a fire team out in the field.
Again, I'm applying real world logic to game mechanics; the combat maneuvers in R&G are very closely modeled on real world maneuvers with which I'm very familiar; I just don't see what you're describing happening.
Add to the fact that Moto, being a remote operative like yourself, probably wouldn't accept your leadership to begin with, and you'll see why there might be an issue. That doesn't mean the skill is not useful to the remaining two members of the team, though.
-
I'm applying realworld too. On the field there typically isn't a whole lot of cameras and other methods of gathering information. But move into something like a hotel security, or small military structure where you have a lot of cameras and a security room.
Typically there is that one room that has several screens that could be viewed while the guy in that location can direct the rest of the security forces.
Just a voice in your ear is so 1990s. This is 2075, where I can create a virtual persona, and plop it right into the AR. Essentially I can be there both visually and audibly, provided characters have img link. This isn't a game of Knightmare anymore.
Not accepting his leadership comes down more to not respecting the leadership of a guy who isn't directly attempting to block bullets with his body. Basically, No danger of getting killed in a fire fight = Not a leader, regardless of other ways he is capable of being killed.
I still fail to see how your rotodrones cannot be of any assistance. There is a few of the maneuvers that specifically call out the use of drones or spirits
-
Roto-Drones, at least mine, tend to stay way the hell out of trouble since they are glass cannons like nobody's business :)
Traveling Overwatch I can do; anything else (especially Dynamic Entry, which is the only other maneuver that mentions drones specifically) is unlikely.
We'll see, I guess; I do have a somewhat antiquated (at least by 2075 standards) view of how these things work, which is probably why I'm not appreciative of the idea. Like I said, though, just make sure to clarify the rules with Elek; it took a few of us several read-throughs to come to an agreement on how the rules "should" work.
-
Well, I mostly intend on the unit tactics that need less hits to achieve. And I could use leadership to get moto to listen anyways.
-
Yeah, if you start rolling against other players I'm out. Fair warning.
-
Ah good, at least we're getting this stuff out on the table before the game starts and everything explodes into a major kerfuffle.
So basically, your character is intended to be a lone wolf who doesn't work with the team, at least not with the character who provides the overwatch and who's primary role in the group is to help direct and assist the team in accomplishing the various tasks.
Any using additional methods of the character to attempt to try and get the lone wolf to work with the team under his directions would just simply result in the player deciding that he needs to leave?
-
i dont really dig PCs forcing other PCs into things either.
-
Like I said, Trisk, fair warning. You try to pull something like that, and I'm out.
Try to rationalize it all you want, I'm not cool with players rolling against other players. For what it's worth, Moto isn't a lone wolf, he's just cautious, curious, and overly confident as long as he's safely behind his drones. If your character can win his trust through roleplaying, he'll listen to good advice. As for providing (physical) overwatch, what do you think it is that Moto does?
-

I didn't get the "lone wolf who doesn't work with the team" vibe from him at all. He was merely being upfront about possible conflicts that may come up, in story.
What i DID get was a real passive aggressive vibe from you. You seem to be purposefully missing his point and making a straw man to attack. I never respect those type of arguments.
-
Duly noted. Altering character to avoid issues.
I'm not trying to be passive agressive or avoid his point, I'm attempting to clarify the point of whether or not moto would be listening to Carbonel's leadership or not. I want to provide to the team, but if that is going to cause issues, I'll do what I can to avoid it.
-
Sorry Elek, but I think I'm bowing out of this one. I just don't feel good about where the vibe is going.
Should give yall plenty of time to replace me with a backup.
Game well.
-
Sorry to hear that, Poindexter. Like I said, I have no issue with good roleplaying, so I do hope you'll reconsider.
-
??? What's just happening?
Come on guys, let's not get some disagreement on how to play ruin the mood. Nothing some good roleplaying can't fix.
@Pointdexter I too hope you'll reconsider, we need Skinny's zen to keep everyone calm.
Those playing nice will get their character artwork done, just saying ;D
-
Anyone around? I feel lonely suddenly... ???
-
I'm here Obidancer :)
-
Present and accounted for :)
-
I'm still here too u.u
-
What the frag just happened? O_o
OK, so no social tests against other PC (except the bonus-giving part of Leadership). I really thought that was the default setting for most RPGs. To be fair, I do allow that in WoD and ASIF RPG, but not in SR.
As for remote Tactics use, please refer to this GIF (http://gifatron.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/senor-chang-ill-allow-it-sombrero.gif).
I am ready to start the IC thread, but first I need to pm Poindexter and sort this thing out.
-
OK, Poindexter is out =(
Do we want to find a replacement?
-
More combat ability would be nice, but I think we can swing it. I'm sorry to hear Poindexter is really out as I'd hoped he'd reconsider, but that's obviously his choice and I respect that he made it.
Up to you, Elek. If I get a vote I'd say we can do without a replacement unless you specifically wanted to throw a bunch of melee adepts at us, in which case we're hosed. :)
-
Rolen is good in a one on one melee fight, but against a bunch of melee adepts? Not so much :)
-
Rolen is combat, Kachina Magic, Moto rigger, and Cabonel can handle the Matrix. Though any addition would be welcome I'd say we could start without. As the adventure move along, we'll realize soon enough (or not) if we need an extra pair of hands (or guns)
-
while I can handle matrix though, do note that I'm not a decknomancer. So a Decker or the like is still very welcomed into the team.
-
You have an unusual built, but I'm sure your Sprites will be able to handle the hacking we'll need.
-
Although I'll have to change the bunch of melee adepts I prepared for you to a group of adept fluffy bunnies, I think it's best if we start without a replacement.
Please expect the IC thread to appear tomorrow. Yay.
-

Here we go: the IC thread. (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=17639.0)
@Number 2, @obidancer,
Since Rolen misses a fixer, but is connected to Kachina, I decided that it would be best for Johnson to contact him through Kachina. OK?
-
I'll be posting on behalf of martinchaen for the next four days.
-
Okei dokie lokie.
How far is the trip? Would I be able to walk there or should I take a taxi?
-
To confirm: Has Moto and/or Cabonel have worked with Kachina and Rolen. Are they already part of the team, or as it been a one off?
-
Cabonel could have worked a few times with the team, especially in regards to providing them with very detailed AR maps of where ever it was they were doing work in.
-
Isn't Cabonel a Rookie though? With a bad Rep on top of that. I can see having worked with you once, Moto probably more.
-
A rookie, the Bad rep mostly comes from being hired through a video game.
Essentially it would be akin to many as having your military training come through Call of Duty and Battlefield. Not exactly the best way of joining into shadowrunning.
-
@Triskavanski
You'll have to take a taxi.
@martinchaen
General information on the Omnidome:
It's the is the largest trideo screen theater in the metroplex. It's located in a refurbished warehouse near the Seattle Aquarium. The prices are somewhat high, compared to a downloaded experience, but sometimes you just have to be able to throw popcorn at the screen. According to the ticket-booking system, you can expect the Omnidome to be half-empty tonight.
Do you have any more specific questions?
-
Elek,
Nope, that'll do perfectly! If the show has assigned seating, Moto will go to his and sit down. If it doesn't, he'll remain standing in the back watching for a clue.
He'll be bringing a Dragonfly drone in with him, just to provide overwatch.
-
@martinchaen
Great!
The Omnidome has assigned seating.
Does everybody go into the Omnidome to their seats?
-
Machinesprite assistance (http://orokos.com/roll/213663): 12d6t5 3
Sneaking (http://orokos.com/roll/213664): 10d6t5 4
Carbonel would be going in some way of avoiding detection the best he could, and moving to sit in an empty seat,
-
My apologies guys, been caught up with work. It's 3:45 and still not in bed!
I will post tomorrow.
And to answer the question, yes Kachina will get to her seat as if a regular citizen.
-
Let's roll:
Spellcasting: Spellcasting: Increase Intuition F6 (http://orokos.com/roll/214177): 14d6t5 6
Drain Resistance: Drain 3 (http://orokos.com/roll/214178): 10d6t5 3
Will sustain with Focus Concentration.
Perception: Observe in details: Perception: Observe in details 14 + 3 (http://orokos.com/roll/214179): 17d6t5 6
Astral Perception: Astral Perception: 14 (http://orokos.com/roll/214180): 14d6t5 9
-
@obidancer
Do you want me to add the description of the astral to the IC post, or you want me to answer your questions?
As for the perception chech, what do you want to know?
You can make Perception checks now to see your Johnson ahead of time and in detail, if you want to. You also have time for a quick Matrix search or a knowledge check to recognize the Johnson and whatnot.
-
@Elek, IC is fine by me, whichever way you prefer.
Fot the Astral Kachina will mostly feed of everybody's emotion. Most souls here for the trideo will be excited about it. Any bodyguard/security/shadowrunners here for business only, not caring for the Trid will exhale a different sort of emotion.
She also will use her Astral sight to identify presences she may have missed on the normal world, like auras under an invisibility spells or shadowrunners try to be sneaky in a chameleon suit (which is by no mean an invisibility cloak, makes you harder to spot not invisible :) )
All she cares right now is identify and position those not here for the trid, in case drek should hit the fan.
-
Well, yea astral sight cheats to easily vs stealth. But I can try still!
-
Hey Elek, what nationality is the Johnson? She spoke Japanese, but I don't want to make any assumptions.
-
Hey Elek, what nationality is the Johnson? She spoke Japanese, but I don't want to make any assumptions.
Actually, she is Caucasian with a hint of Asian features. Think Catherine Zeta-Jones or Miranda Cosgrove.
-
If you're waiting for Number 2, we're probably not seeing him in a while it seems.
-
If you're waiting for Number 2, we're probably not seeing him in a while it seems.
Really? Oh...
OK, I'll continue this evening then.
-
Yeah, I dunno what happened, He kinda disappeared.
-
Yeah, I dunno what happened, He kinda disappeared.
Sadly, that happens all the time =(
-
I agree, I have a feeling he's gone.
You can start to recruit more if you want they can be easily integrated by the time the meet is over.
-
You can start to recruit more if you want they can be easily integrated by the time the meet is over.
I probably should. If he shows up, we'll just have an additional member for your group =)
-
Extra guns are always welcomed! :)
-
Hoi!
I hope you are comfortable with the game speed.
I am not sure what is the deal with Number 2. While I'm sorting this out, I want to know if you would like a dedicated Face in your group (see the recruiting topic).
@obidancer,
If you want Kachina to get more detailed information from Johnson, like more or less exact date, you'll need to roll Negotiation: if she gives you too much before you agree it can backfire for her. For each success you can get a piece of information before agreeing. No modifiers now.
Or you can all accept the job to get the sensitive details =) Not taking the job is always an option in SR - I can make another plot.
-
Moto is in; he can drive, and doesn't much care what the driving is :)
-
Guys!
Are we doing it or what? There is a line already in the LFG thread, and you still haven't expressed your opinion about a new face. If you don't care - please say so, that is a valid answer, but please do post it.
Also, if you don't want to roll for additional information, please say that, so that we can continue.
-
Either way is good for me; Moto is in and has already said as much :)
-
My apologies everyone. Was away for an event/convention for 8 days. Just came back.
@Elek.
If Number 2 is playing, I'm fine with a dedicated Face. Kachina can handle some part of the Job (she excels at interrogation but isn't the best Con artist around). However if Number 2 is MIA, I strongly suggest a Combat type for the group.
As for the roll:
Meet: getting more info (Negociation) (http://orokos.com/roll/219868): 10d6t5 4
She mostly needs to know:
- timeframe before the extraction.
- if Johnson knows the amount of security they'll be facing.
- if Johnson will be able to provide equipment/support for required run
- Estimated location where extraction is supposed to happen.
Unless the odds seems unrealistic, Kachina is very likely to accept and volunteer the rest of the people attending the meet as if part of her team already.
[edit] After reading up the potential new Face, I don't think the character brings anything to the plate for the team that they would really need (No offense meant Csjarrat). Looking forward to reading about Risoknop and 8-bit.
-
obidancer
Just keep in mind that Moto has already verbally accepted the job ;)
-
I know ;) Another reason why She's going to accept the job no matter what.
-
OK, just clarifying things:
1) Number 2 is still in;
2) We will have another player with us soon, Csjarrat;
3) I won't post the whole job offer just yet, as I might have to add Csjarrat's character into the thing, like Johnson bringing his man in, if we don't come up with some other way of introducing Jag to the game.
-
@obidancer,
Johnson answered just two questions out of four because you have two net successes.
-
evening all,
Posting up my char sheet here for reference. looking forward to gaming with you!
This is Jag Patel, he's an Indian born adept who fled war with Pakistan as a child and was "normalised" at age 16.
He expressed as an adept as a recruit in the UCAS military during a live-fire exercise and ended up as many soldiers do, on the private security circuit.
An ill-advised affair with a client's wife saw him disgraced and unemployed, vicious rumours circulated to further discredit him. He fell into the shadows out of necessity and now lives in a shithole apartment in the lower downtown slums, getting by thanks to his tenacity and quick reflexes.

Guys, I'm making the assumption that i'm not at the meet due to the late entrance. do you want to drop me a message IC after the meet and invite me in as hired muscle or does GM want to handwaive me as being at the meet?
-
It'll be up to the GM, but Kachina will certainly be calling you if you're not here. She mentioned already to the Johnson she knew of a few people who could help. :)
@ Elek, will post IC tonight.
-
@obi, great. Rather than handwaive it, drop me a line once the meet is done, looking forward to it!
-
It'll be up to the GM
I really hoped you would come up with a way to introduce Jag and you delivered =) Dropping a line definitely works for me.
-
I'm not going to post all the chip data in the IC thread. Instead, let's do it this way: you ask if something is on the chip - if it is, I write it up here, OK? This way I don't write up uncalled and useless information in the IC thread and we avoid setting the contents of the chip in stone and can make adjustments.
-
@obidancer
Now, as for haggling, please roll Charisma + Negotiation. She accepts the 50% upfront part, but if you want to bump the budget up for one other person, you'll have to roll.
-
Oops, doesn't sound promising.
Negotiation to get Jar a share (http://orokos.com/roll/221960): 10d6t5 1
-
Well, that is not enough, sadly. You'll have to split 100k. On the other hand, somebody might not make it to the end =P
-
I'd love to see this game sped up a bit, less than a post a week is quite on the low side. Any one?
-
Don't look at me: I'm waiting for everyone to start planning. But I second you: where is everybody?
-
Something happened to Martinchaen. His profile now says "Guest" and he isn't responding to my emails.I hope nothing happened to him, but if so then that means Moto is out of the picture. That leaves Trisk to respond, although I think Rolen and Kachina can discuss amongst themselves a bit as they leave the theatre.
-
Crap, the success of the run kind of depends on Moto a lot! ;)
-
The probably means he deleted his account actually.
-
This game is cursed :P the topic in the General Discussion about him missing doesn't look promising.
Please proceed to planning and gathering intel, while I look for a replacement wheelman. I'll post in the LFG topic this evening. That makes me sad, but we can't accomodate another wait.
-
Wow, ok that's bad news. I can change jag to being a wheelman type if that works?
-
Well, Csjarrat, that would be extremely nice of you. :-)
-

Woot. Can't wait for him to come in.
-
You need to call him for that ;)
-
Ready when you are :-)

Sorry, I wasn't getting the notifications for the IC thread. I'll be posting here soon...
I might also have a problem, I've lost access to the PC that can run chummer.

You too? For some reason I don't get all the notifications either...
I like the "socialization" =))

Ready to move on to Rolen's place with Jag in, I think.
Kachina will pick up her Gun along the way.

He is wearing the ace of cups jacket with his smart clothing underneath. His trode band is keeping his long hair from falling into his face, acting a bit like a hair band and he is running a DNI to his glasses and earbuds (both with wireless turned on)
He has his telescoping staff in its concealable sheath under the jacket and the microskimmer drone turned off in his inside jacket pocket.
-
OK, apparently, we are waiting for Triskavanski.
@Csjarrat,
Nothing looks sketchy as much as you can tell. Unless Triskavanski wants to add something, that is.
@obidancer,
It is highly unlikely that he is martinchaen, unless martinchaen decided to GM himself in a pbp.
-
Guys, I sent Rolen's address not Carbonel's. Kachina's not too crazy into going to secured posh areas with just a R2 Fake ID and no good reasons.
-
Oh... OK, that happens, sorry =) Csjarrat might want to change his post then. The perception result stays in general.
And we are waiting for Number 2 then =)
-
I'm reading to move on then, provided one of the two I'm with has the ability to give the cat king a ride.
-
Yeah, nothing's really special about Rolen's house. Besides the minor explosions every now and then.
Also, Rolen gave Kachina a ride in a taxi. So if the Cat King is coming with, I hope he doesn't have any reservations about closequarters and elbows.
-
cool, will edit now
EDIT: done. ready to move on when you guys are
-
Heads up, I will be traveling tomorrow, back Sunday. No guaranty I'll be able to post.
-
Heads up, I will be traveling tomorrow, back Sunday. No guaranty I'll be able to post.
No worries, have a nice travel =)
Meanwhile others can plan. Remember: you can ask if something is on the chip.
-
I'm assuming the road the capture would take place is on there. What about the details on who should be on guard duty? or what the vehical would be? The amount of traffic?
-
Yes, the road is there. It is quite straightforward: the on-ramp to I-5 is right next to the prison itself, then it's a straight road to the SeaTac from the off-ramp.
As the Johnson mentioned, there would be:
- Two Lone Star officers in the Black Mariah itself, both in the driver's compartment. One is a dedicated rigger, another is a guard - a defensive system operator - who is jumped into the defensive system;
- Four Lone Star officers in a Lone Star patrol car. All of them are your regular cannonfodder - not a SWAT team or anything. Although it is noted that they will have better armament;
- Four PCC military officers in a Lone Star patrol car. They are underequiped by military standards, more up to the SWAT level. One of them is a shaman, but there is no detailed information on him, not even a name.
The vehicles are:
- Lone Star "Black Mariah" Ultra-Security Prisoner Transport Vehicle (USPTV). Ultra indeed: the prisoner compartment and the driver's compartment are separate, both extensively armored. Both compartments are also environmentally sealed. Slightly lighter armor encloses the engine compartment. Ballistic shrouds protect the two front wheels and the quads in the rear. The tires are runflat. There are two turrets on the sides of the prisoner compartment and the whole vehicle is lined with directional anti-personnel explosives and "stun" explosives approximately on waist level. Moreover, the prisoner compartment itself is rigged with explosives: if the compartment is forced open or a signal comes from the defensive system operator - the prisoner is gone. A Dead Man's Switch triggers the explosive charge in case the defensive system operator is jacked-out without issuing a disarming command. Flash-packs are incorporated into the light bar on top. There is also a gas delivery system in place, usually loaded with Neuro-stun. The car is built on a standard Chrysler-Nissan one-ton truck chassis;
- Patrol cars are your regular (well, not by Seattle standards nowadays, but still) Chrysler-Nissan Journeys.
As the convoy leaves at night only light traffic is expected.
-
lol. hopefuly we brought a decker?
-
Technically speaking, Carbonel (Triskavanski) is a hacker, but de facto it's a secondary role.
-
Aye karumba.
Even if I was a full decker that would be crazy difficult. If we don't disarm that, the prisoner is gone. So pretty much simultaneously we need to both get the disarm command, and prevent the defense guy from triggering it.
The explosives, would they only kill the prisoner or would they kill the guys in truck as well? Cause if its possible to cause a mutual destruction there is some opening potential. Or they are zealot oriented and will stop at nothing just to make sure the guy dies if anything goes wrong.
Only CF I have right now are Editor, Resonance Veil, Resonance Spike, transcend Grid and Stitches. I can possibly veil the bomb thing and possibly prevent it, I dunno if that will work though.
-
Rolen is pretty decent at disarming explosives, but then again, he has to be in very close proximity to do so.
-
Yeah. And it'll be very hard to get you in there, as all it takes is just a fraction of a second for the prisoner to become pink mist. I can't brick the defense guy or it explodes. And I can't brick the bombs, or they explode. Even if we managed to get the code into the bombs to disarm them, I don't think it would take too long for them to figure it out and just detonate them anyways.
I forget, how many days away is the prison transfer? Cause here is the first thing I'd like to do... I'd like to run the Editor CF to create a simulation program of the heist, So that if it is a couple of days away, we could try running some of us through a simulation of the heist to try and get our timings down a little bit.
So I'd also need to get weather forecasts for that day too, and what ever other variables I can gather up with a information gathering check.
-
You have two more weeks.
And it is not clear from the chip just how trigger-happy these defensive system operators are. They might explode the prisoner as soon as they hit any pothole, or they might be instructed to detonate the charge only when completely desperate and then with hesitation. That's the purview of legwork.
-
Well, how detonaty is the bomb? Like would it take out the whole car, or just the prisoner?
I'm currently going to assume that they are trigger happy, myself as I think that is the worst set up until we can get further.
Two weeks is plenty of time for me to set up my sprites pretty well.
-
Oh, sorry, I forgot about that part of your post, sorry: the charge only affects the prisoner, it doesn't even break the prisoner compartment open. Notwithstanding some accidents, LS doesn't even have to repair the truck much after the detonation, just clean it. In game terms it's basically a grenade right above the prisoner + lack of body armor + chunky salsa.
Good new is they won't shoot the prisoner - the prisoner compartment is completely sealed.
-
hrm... this is gonna be quite tough!
-
Well thats good and bad. Good because we just have to get the on guy out. Bad because there is no fear for blowing him up.
-
hrm... this is gonna be quite tough!
Well, what can I say... Second edition sourcebooks for the win :-)
-
How good is the defense systems? Like are they a tad old, or bleeding edge futuristic military stuff?
-
How good is the defense systems? Like are they a tad old, or bleeding edge futuristic military stuff?
This car is relatively old. That particular model was manufactured from 2066 to 2072.
-
Then that could be good for us, slightly easier to hack, provided its wireless enabled.
Possibly, veil the defense guy to make it appear as if absolutely nothing is happening in the matrix.
-
Yes, precisely. It should be wireless enabled.
Hm... It's a bit of a stretch considering the wording of the Veil, but not against the spirit of the CF... So yeah, you can do that. Good thinking =)
-
Another possibility is somehow intercept emails between the two and run an editor CF on them, to make things be said like what we'd want to have happen.
-
Posted IC. Don't mind discussing tactic here but I thought what Kachina's asking would be better in character.
Triskavanski, good ideas.
-
The gas delivery system, is that external or internal?
Like would it be used on the prisoner or the crew trying to get at the prisoner.
We do have 3 ways the prisoner goes boom by the way that I saw
Defense guy sends single
Defense guy jacks out without disarming.
The compartment is forced open.
I don't know if these three things are combined (IE if the defense guy disarms, are they all disarmed?)
I'll roll for my assistance on my data sprite to find information on these guys.
Sprites Data Search Assistance (http://orokos.com/roll/228247): 11d6t5 3
Sprites Data Search (http://orokos.com/roll/228248): 15d6h5 2
Wow.. that was pretty bad. :/ Wasn't suppose to use h on the second roll though as I didn't push the limit
-
If we can find out enough enough about the guards, ie who they are, where they live, what their families are like, then perhaps we can be pretty damn ruthless and force the guards to help us release him by having their wives/kids etc as hostages. or maybe catch them in a honeytrap and blackmail them with video of their cheating activities.
Just thinking if we can get them onside with some heavy leverage they'll work with us instead of against us
-
Hehe, that was exactly my idea Csjarrat.
We need to 'convince' someone on the inside to play along. Glad I'm not the only twisted mind to think that. ;)
Kachina being an expert at Intimidation, she knows every mean count!
That said I was thinking about checking the security rigger' s relationship with his family and yes, if good, simply make them the target and leverage their lives for his assistance.
Either him or the Shaman, i.e getting to know him and see if we can make him a ally instead of having to fight him (which no one is looking forward to)
-
Yeah, I totally support anything that makes it so I'm not the single point of failure. :3
I'd absolutely hate if it all came down to me making a roll and I critically botch it. Cause if I wasn't rolling to assist my sprite, the 3 would have been better than the 2. And came close to a glitch on that 2 as well.. ><
-
cool, well we know that brute force is just gonna paste the passenger so social stuff i think should be plan A with a solid decking/technomancing plan B to fall back on.
other question is do we want to find out who this passenger actually is or are we happy to find out we've released some horrific mass murdering rapist back into society once we get paid? :-)
-
Well, I kinda look at this way.. If he is a murder rapist, the fact they paid us 50k already to get him out means that he's got some extremely important friends with lots of money and power. Failing the job, or refusing to do it on moral standing will probably make us less stable on the mortal standing.
-

Haha, true! to be honest, even completing the mission well might see us become the targets. tieing up loose ends and all that, especially if the media get hold of it
-
Good point, we should try to get some leverage against our employers too to prevent stuff like that from happening.
-
Good thinking, everybody!) And Csjarrat, please stop reading my notes ;D
Sadly, Triskavanski didn't hit the search Threshold. There are certainly other ways to get that information though. Or you can try again at -2.
The gas delivery system is external for your purposes.
And thanks for moving the planning to the IC thread: that is a nice read.
-
Yeah, I figured as much, unless I could use an edge on that roll. I dunno if that works for sprites though.
But we'll do it another way, I'll do the test myself and push the limit.
Cat's Data Search (http://orokos.com/roll/228318): 14d6h5 6
Pool of 9 + 5 edge + 2 for hotsim VR -2 for retry.
Considerably better.
-
There you go, in the IC thread. As with the chip, you can ask additional questions about them =)
-
so its likely we are not getting our target if this guy is in the defense rig. Its possible we could shake somethings up, especially if we could get our own rigger in there. Or something.
-
There certainly are ways to bypass that obstacle, even persuasion and intimidation are not out of the picture, it's just that they won't be a cakewalk. After all, corporate human resources know whom to assign on such duties.
Or you can kill him :-P If violence doesn't solve your problems, you are not applying enough violence :-)))
-
Idea: Rolen is a pretty decent mechanic/explosives defuser. We get Kachina to persuade the guys in charge that Rolen is coming for a "Checkup" on the vehicle. Heck, she could tell them its a government service and provided for free. Either way, Rolen can just nonchalantly saunter in and go to work on the vehicle. Disarming the explosives, maybe planting some RFID tags. Carbonel can figure out where the vehicle is coming from, yes? Rolen could even plant explosives into the other vehicles, perhaps in vulnerable parts of the engine block. It would be an awful shame if the pursuers had no working vehicles to pursue us in.
-
you can kill him :-P If violence doesn't solve your problems, you are not applying enough violence :-)))
Haha, love the quote!
-
I have no idea where it originally comes from, tbh. Do you know?
Please tell me you are posting IC any time soon =))

Looking for Cameras (http://orokos.com/roll/229072): 11d6t5 3
-
@obidancer,
Who do you want to contact exactly? And what would be your questions? (Also, are you willing to offer some nuyen for the info?)
@Triskavanski
That's enough to find the cameras along the road.
Creating a simulation would be an extended action... I'm not sure Editor CF will suffice. Although I can allow you to use it as a teamwork test for the regular Logic + Software test, so that the CF at least helps you.
-
Kachina's Talismonger. She will meet her and spend a lot of money to purchase the material necessary for a Magical Lodge F6. She will add 'a good tip' to see if anyone has info or heard about the PCC Shaman who will work for the transport security. Mostly looking for a name/identity and possible whereabouts or being directed to someone who may know.

Aye I wouldn't think the CF alone would be enough. Not typically speaking at least, but it can edit stuff really fast when its used along with edge.
Here's a question though... I'm the files owner. Do I have to roll against myself to edit the file I'll be editing?

OK. Do you want to roll yourself (10d6) or should I roll for your Contacts? We haven't discussed that.
Here's a question though... I'm the files owner. Do I have to roll against myself to edit the file I'll be editing?
Well, there is no file yet) It'll be a Logic + Software extended test to create the simulation, but all the Edit File modifiers would apply, like +2 for programming in hot-sim (even though it won't be a Matrix Action strictly speaking). I don't believe that it's Artisan (one can argue for that, but I simply don't believe in penalizing player creativity, all other arguments notwithstanding) and using the Matrix modifiers seems only fair. The threshold is 18 (it is a complex simulation after all) and the interval is 1 hour.
-
I totally would have thought it was all Software and matrix actions personally.
-
I'd say you should roll for Contact, but it's my personal preference, I'm open to discussion.
-
Here is the development of the simulator.

Now let just hope our GM is still with us...
-
Yep, kinda waiting for the "And then tomarrow comes."
-
i assume this game is now dead then?
-
So disappointing!
GM disappearing is a very annoying but alas recurring event
