Posted by Randall just a little bit ago to tumbler (http://catalystgamelabs.tumblr.com/post/91578232581/cover-to-shadowrun-run-faster-and-sr5-one-year). I like to refer to this as the official "Brony Cover" :)

Probably one of those things like original Star Trek Klingon foreheads vs Next Gen Star Trek Klingon Foreheads. :P
-
He took the Human Looking quality. Or it's a Cyberskull. :)
*shrug* Dunno. I always hated the horse heads. Though it did make them visually distinctive, I guess.
-
Because being a centaur wasn't visually distinctive enough?

Once had a Centaur Johnson who introduced himself as Mr. Ed.
Sadly I was the only one in that group old enough to get the joke. :(

Wow, I remember Randall's post a while back about this image...very nice indeed. Always like Echo's work.

The levels of John Woo badassery is through the roof.

The Doves are a nice touch.

I meant Visually Distinctive from every other Centaur in Fantasy. There may be others, but off the top of my head I can't think of any other fictional centaur that actually had a horse-like head like SR ones did. Though as I said, I hated that, so... :)
-
Well, I whoever came up with the horse heads for SR4, I wanted to congratulate for the sheer level of trolling that would entail, intentional or no.
I do have players that are furries, and just seeing their "WTF?" faces when I showed them the pictures in RC. Especially in the wake of the rise of MLP:FiM.
That and the otter-head mermaids.
(then again, changelings are basically actual-furries, but whatever)
-
Okay.
So... Is this a picture of a human-headed centaur adept punk with cyberlegs punching an incredibly skinny troll with a katana on a motorcycle?
What kind of 80's metal were you guys on when this was drawn?
EDIT: My friend suggested it's probably a horned changeling rather than a troll. Makes sense given what should be in the book.

I thought it was an interesting (if not super creative). To be honest I'd be a bit more annoyed just at them changing lore... Yeah, I'm one of those people.
-
Wow!
Any ideas on the release date?
-
Nothing other than the comment in the blog post that it is one of the releases planned within the next 12 months. Given that we're starting to see some official comment, I'd guess we found see a digital release this fall, with print likely being early next year. Of course, this is pure speculation on my part. ;)
-
Might be an oni ork, albeit still skinny compared to the average.
-
Meh, hope there's more to this than making special snowflakes happy. Cant be arsed with minmaxed furry shapeshifter drake adepts that punch through tank armour and can do pretty much nothing else.

I'm kind of torn about Run Faster coming out before Data Trails, since Run Faster should have the rules in it for making an AI character, which should probably reference things that are in a book that won't be out yet.

I'm kinda torn because the two archetypes that need the most help (technomancer and rigger) are the only ones that haven't gotten a book yet... That's not cool. But whatever, it's not like Run Faster won't have some helpful info in it.

Well yes. I wanted Data Trails to be the first side book after the core came out, since they completely revamped the matrix. It was the book we most needed. Both Run and Gun and Street Grimoire just feel like copies of the content of Arsenal and Street Magic, with less rules. I feel like I bought the same books twice and got less content the second time.

That's a fair way to feel about it. I mean they are essentially just updating the rules for the new edition. But that's always how it is with new editions in my experience.
On the bright side, I can always think "If Data Trails takes so long to come out, then it'll be the more carefully made and have less errors." Because if they do any amount of copy/paste from last edition like they've done with some things in the other books, it'll screw up everything since the matrix rules are totally different.
-
The cover art is great. Hopefully they will keep leaking more tidbits from the book up to the PDF launch.

But what good is any expansion book until people can build characters without having to roll for sanity loss? I want a usable chargen system, then we can talk about expansions ;)
-
I for one am glad that Data Trails is coming out later than sooner. I hope they spend the time to quality control it like the other books seem to have lacked.
-
I saw this pic and immediately sent it to my players! :D
I love Echo's art -- first found her when I saw the Attitude cover.
@Bull -- perhaps she could do an additional Bull vs Brony's piece...or would that be Bull and Brony's vs The World? ;)
Thanks for sharing - very cool! 8)

Cyber-Centaur, I can now die knowing I have seen it all. :o
-
I'm still not sure it's a centaur, given that Shadowrun centaurs are, you know, horse-headed, primate-torso'd, three fingered folks. Either it's a new look, or maybe a SURGE victim?

Don't forget the street sam. I have a handful of characters I can't port over yet because things like eye lasers don't exist.

Converting cyberware is easy, though. All that changed is that some things got more expensive, sometimes by a lot. If you really want your street sam with skimmer discs back, it wouldn't be complicated for your GM to find a fitting 5e price for them. The matrix was completely rebuilt from the ground up. There's no converting there. Trying to run the Matrix without Data Trails basically requires GMs to house rule their own matrix systems, since the rules are incredibly sparse right now. And Technomancers are just awful. Just...so, so awful.

Are you arguing that we shouldn't get a cyberware book, or do you think maybe it would be nice to have everyone's favorite character types expended?
I don't deny that the matrix needs to be expanded upon. I'd prefer that all of the source books come out in a timely manner, according to however long it takes to make them well.

I'm arguing that we should get Data Trails first, since its a more pressing need. Street Sams can survive until the augmentation book comes out, but it's hard to use Riggers, Technomancers or Deckers.

I would agree, but I would prefer to wait for a good quality product than have something pushed out the gate before it's ready. I'll be playing shadowrun for years, I can wait for a decent quality product.
-
What evidence is there that waiting improves quality when it comes to CGL?
At this point they should just release the stuff so we can start fixing it... and if anyone at Topps is listening give 6th edition to another company!

The problem with me was mostly the thought of having, you know, the lower body of a horse and the upper body of a horse. With a bit of a human-ish torso where the neck should be. Always felt kind of derpy...
The art is neat, though... Not that I really care about the art in comparison to what's inside, but still.

Someone get Mungo and his Vindicator with the bayonets mounted on it...
-
EEEKKKK!
Speaking of Mungo, have not seen Canray posting much lately.
Hope it is just down to him being busy at work or even better getting some time off on vacation and nothing health related....

For the record, centaurs used to have equine heads ever since they were originally introduced in SR2 Paranormal Animals of Europe.
They were supposed to be Awakened horses, so I guess the idea their "awakening" was to grow neck and head that exactly looks like the upper body half of the dominant primate in their ecosystem can seem just as stupid as them only growing the pair of arms with opposing thumbs.
-
Has there been any new info on timeline/date since this was first let out? I've seen some added art threads.
-
Nothing official, that I've seen. But, it seems that the more art they release, the closer we get to release (at least in my opinion ;))
